I am a highly experienced teacher of psychology and sociology with excellent track record on engagement and results and a past examiner for AQA psychology. Specialising in AQA psychology and AQA sociology, I have also taught/tutored Edexcel & IB psychology (standard and higher level) and OCR & WJEC sociology. Excellent resources to support students with tricky topics, help develop skills and allow stretch & challenge to meet the top mark bands. Follow me online on Facebook and Instagram as The Learning Navigator to access free resources including my special topic summary sheets called octals.
If you are struggling with the research methods components of the courses, I can demystify, explain these and build your confidence with mathematical skills/statistical testing. Not sure how to structure examination answers for the longer questions? I can help with that too. Extensive experience means I can deliver comprehensive examination skills and guidance along with detailed subject content.
I have a Masters degree in teaching and learning and enjoy working with students to develop effective learning strategies and build confidence. Study skills development is a speciality - work smarter, build confidence, achieve better!
I am tutoring full-time after many years working in schools and quickly became fully booked last year. I put a lot of work and preparation into sessions to tailor them specifically to my students' needs and have achieved excellent results in 2023 including an A grade in sociology for a student who missed the whole of Year 12 at school! Please enquire for more details and to book your free initial assessment.
Terms and conditions
I pride myself on building up a good working relationship with my clients. Since tutoring is normally for a period of some months as examinations approach and in the interests of fair play for both parties, I've set out some key points regarding charges and cancellations during the tutoring period.
Charges
A-Level sessions are delivered online weekly via Teams in one-hour blocks. Charges reflect my qualifications, experience and the way my sessions are tailored to each individual student’s needs, making them highly effective at boosting learning, confidence and grades. Knowing all the misconceptions and pitfalls on content and structuring examination questions makes all the difference and it is vital that tutoring is effective for the student.
I am happy to offer each new client one free initial assessment and discussion session to assess the needs and type of help required plus it gives you a chance to see how I work and fit in with your requirements. There is no obligation on either side to continue after this first session.
Cancellations Policy
Once a regular slot has been booked for the student, the same time every week, I will endeavour always to be available to tutor them. There is scope for discussion if a session needs to be rearranged (24 hours requested), subject to my availability.
From time to time, flexibility on both sides is required due to life events and unexpected occurrences. This may involve cancellation of a particular session or the need to reschedule and I will always try to accommodate if I can do so.

My Psychology degree and 9 years of experience working with children with Neuro-divergence and additional educational needs prior to teaching have significantly shaped my approach to teaching.
I prioritise relationship building and trust with students and their caregivers.
I am patient, kind, and incredibly encouraging but have high expectations. I work with students for them to also gain high expectations in themselves. This may happen in the first few sessions or may take a longer period of time depending on the student.
I help students gain high expectations for themselves by initially giving tasks where they are guaranteed success, then celebrating and reflecting on this success and how they were able to use the skills taught and their effort to complete the task. This builds a persons confidence and significantly increases the likelihood of attempting more difficult tasks. This is heavily proven by research (and seen in my classroom daily) known as the “theory of self efficacy” and the “theory of planned behaviour”.
If a person does not believe a task is within their capability, they are incredibly unlikely to even attempt it (No matter how much we believe they can do it).
It is my job to SHOW students they can do it by designing tasks and lessons in a way that they feel challenged finish with pride in their achievements.
When teaching new skills I will show them first, then we will complete a task together, then they will apply the skills independently. I will be constantly assessing as they work independently and provide support where necessary. The ultimate goal is to phase back my support until they are using the taught skills correctly, consistently, confidently and independently.
Lessons will vary depending on students needs. If caregivers want to spend a percentage of the lesson to discuss, that will be agreed upon. If there are specific targets you want me to cover then we can dedicate time for you to tell me these expectations. If you would prefer me to assess your student and gage where the gaps are and plan accordingly, that is also ok.
I would suggest an initial session to meet, and discuss goals.
Some classes you may benefit from:
-SATs Prep
-Phonics
-Reading (comprehension, vocabulary, inferencing, predictions, explaining, retrieval, sequencing, summarising, making links, authors intent)
-Spelling
-Grammar (or Spelling and grammar combined)
-Maths
-Maths (arithmetic)
-Maths (Reasoning and Problem solving)
-Target specific - has your teacher said there are targets you need to work on in various subjects?
-Science
-History
-Geography
-Psychology (GCSE, A Level)
Is your child in secondary school but needs support in the foundation subjects such as reading, writing or maths?
Reading and writing is an essential skills in secondary school for every subject. I can support your child to close the gap so they can access all subjects with their peers. Having worked in secondary schools before, I have seen how much students are required to read and write in all lessons, but there will not be opportunities to learn these fundamental skills at school.
I welcome students of all ages (including adults) from all backgrounds and of all abilities.
I look forward to meeting you soon and celebrating the amazing progress ahead!

I have taught in private and state schools as head of department for Psychology and teacher of History.
I love to ensure students benefit from the rich nature of studying these disciplines while also focusing hugely on exam technique.
As an examiner for more than one exam board, I know exactly how to respond to all types of questions and am keen to equip my students with this knowledge too!

I am a Head of Department at a school in Essex. The results in the subject are excellent with most students meeting or exceeding their target grades. All lessons are planned to meet the individual needs of students, with a focus on both knowledge and understanding, but also exam technique.
Alongside this I work with AQA as an examiner which ensures my knowledge of assessment and exam technique is up to date.
