I am a Qualified Physics teacher, currently teaching in a state school. My tutoring approach is flexible moulding my teaching style according to students understanding. I listen to students and encourage them to speak and ask questions. I believe the three main attributes that makes a fantastic teacher are a passion for the subject, a great sense of humour and consistent high expectations of all students. I have a great desire in working with young people of diverse backgrounds and helping them to reach their academic potential. I will first assess how much of a certain topic they know and then plan my session from this information. Homework is set after tuition for further independent work and then marked with quality feedback to the tutee. I have a progress checklist that I sign off once they have successfully achieved a certain level. My Tutees are given a copy for their own records.

NHS Doctor with over 10 years of experience studying and completing exams and over 7 years teaching Maths, Biology and Chemistry for KS3, GCSE and A Level. My tuition approach is listed below.
Each lesson begins with a run-through of the topic and explanation of key concepts with opportunities for pupils to ask questions. Students are then provided with high yield exam questions and worksheets to complete. Questions are then marked together to highlight areas of strength and areas of improvement. An emphasis is always maintained on exam technique during each lesson. Assessments to determine student improvement are provided every 4-6 weeks.
All students are taught how to study effectively using two evidence-based study techniques:
1) Active Recall - Here students create useful revision questions to test their memory of certain topics
2) Spaced Repetition - Here students are taught how to strategically review topics regularly and boost their chances of remembering important exam content throughout the year and leading up to exams.
My classes are always tailored with a personalised programme for each and every student and remain friendly and engaging. All resources including specialised notes for each exam board, revision questions and exam question related to the tutees exam board are provided free of charge. Tuition goes beyond the `hour slot` as students are able to contact me via phone, email and tutor hunt messaging. I also remain engaged with the lesson and do not `clock-watch`.
For 2023, I now have a team of dedicated tutors offering tailored approaches to tuition. Please get in touch if you have any questions or preference for female tutors as this can be organised too.
Thank you for all enquiries currently, we are organising classes as soon as possible.
Spring an Summer Booster Courses will be available upon request.

I have been teaching GCSE Science for 22 years, Biology up to A level for 22 years, and Physics A level for 12 years. I can also help with BTEC Science coursework and exams. I have been working for a major exam board for 12 years. I believe in building good relationships being one of the most important things in teaching. When we can communicate effectively we can learn and teach effectively. Most of my teaching has been in central London so I have lots of experience dealing with challenging behaviour and facing the challenge of students who at first don't want to learn. I have had several positions of responsibility including KS3 coordinator, deputy Head of Science, Head of Science, and recently Head of post 16 Sciences and head of BTEC Science. My work with exam boards means I know how to get students to pass exams. I have taken on students currently on a U, and they have ended up getting an A, purely being taught how to answer exam questions. I have a current DBS certificate and recently completed Designated Safeguarding Lead training as well as level 2 courses in Counselling Children and Adolescents, and Forensic Psychology.

Hi, my name is Vicky and I'm an ex-head of science at a secondary school in London. I have also been a tutor for the last 4 years. I've been teaching for just over 6 years with experience on multiple exam boards and teaching all specialisms of science. I am currently teaching myself how to code and looking for a career change, however, I am still tutoring as I love how rewarding it is!
I gained my PGCE in 2017 and started my role as a science teacher in July 2017. I have taught all three sciences for both AQA and Edexcel, and chemistry up to A-Level. I have also worked as an examiner for both AQA and Edexcel, giving me priceless experience and insight into getting marks in exams! During my time as a teacher I received multiple nominations for 'changing lives as a teacher' awards within my trust - once as a trainee, once as a teacher and once for working cross-collaboratively across multiple schools.
In your first lesson it's important that we get to know each other well so I can understand your goals and where you are currently at and so you can figure out if I am a teacher you'd like to learn from! We'll do an overview of some of the foundational topics in your chosen science (or all three if you'd like) during which I can assess your current level and you can get to see my teaching style. I am happy to set out a curriculum for your tutoring sessions or go with the flow each week where you let me know what topic you'd like to cover.
Review from a parent not on TutorExtra (contact details available upon request):
'Vicky has tutored both my kids. She is patient, and extremely organised. She prepares well for each session and really adapts her tutoring to the exam board that the school is doing. This is really important to us. We didn't just want a science graduate who didn't know all the exam board quirks. Having used many tutors over the years, my eldest has said she is the most useful tutor she has ever had. Vicky is also extremely kind. The proof has been in the pudding - chemistry mock at a level 3 moved to a 7 in the GCSE! She is now tutoring our second child over Zoom and that is also working very well. Name and contact details withheld but available privately via Vicky.'

John obtained a First Class Honours degree in Physics and Philosophy from Durham, before a PhD in Physics and Applied Mathematics at Leeds. He now works as a research scientist in London, following similar experience in Washington, DC.
With wide experience in communicating and teaching, John has established a personable and adaptable approach. He is able to explain concepts from a number of angles, and enjoys helping students find their individual way in to a subject. His goal is to give students the confidence that they really ‘get’ the topic at hand, not just to reinforce rote learning. This approach has been successful both in general revision, helping to solidify ideas, and in targeted exam preparation, helping to unlock specific barriers to understanding.

My name is Seun Michael www.*** Teaching has always been a passion. Because of my love for teaching and the opportunities it gives to make meaningful impact the lives of people, I have always strived to equip myself in order to competently face the challenges of being an educator. Education is the bedrock of any society. I believe teaching is the worthiest cause in the aspiration of making our societies and the world a better place.
I began teaching after my National Diploma from The Polytechnic Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria where I studied Electrical/electronic engineering. I spent two years teaching and by the end of this experience, I knew I wants to be a teacher. The usual challenges attributed to teaching such as lack of institutional support and the rising indifference toward education by students only excited me to seek solutions. I was sure this solution would only make me a better equipped teacher. My resourcefulness was brought to the fore as I often had to rely on ingenuity to provide teaching aids where none was available. I also learnt that the traditional linear method of teaching which rendered students’ passive recipients of knowledge relying solely on the teacher was not enough to sustain the students’ interest. I therefore made my classes fun, engaging and participatory. I found that students are often active and willing collaborators when given responsibilities and if they can relate well with the subject matter. They also gained confidence and were less likely to be unruly.
The curriculum is designed to guide teaching and learning outcomes. A teacher must have impeccable mastery of the curriculum content in order to properly instruct the students. The latter, too having no doubts in the teacher’s abilities would willingly lend their support. In light of this, I enrolled at the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta, Nigeria to study Physics. After obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree in 2017, I went ahead to acquire a Post Graduate Diploma in Education from the National Teachers Institute, Ibadan Centre and then teacher certification from the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN). From the knowledge and experience gathered over the years, I consider myself competent in teaching physics and mathematics which I have done for about fifteen years now. Many of the students which I have taught are now graduates while some are doing well in various Nigeria Universities.
As an enthusiastic, self-motivated dependable and diligent person I believe in developing myself as an example of what I want my students to be in character and learning. I have always taken advantage of available opportunities in order to acquire the excellence which I desire in my students. Coming from a background of the use of the traditional chalk-board, I have endeavored to develop myself by getting computer skills via online tutoring. This enables me to teach with modern teaching aids such as YouTube, flash drive, wireless mouse, projector and so on.
Most often I am called upon to help instruct other teachers in order for them to cope with modern technological aids.
I am a mature team worker with good interpersonal skills able to work well in a group as well as use my own initiative. In the various schools where I have taught, I often help in organizing co-curricular activities for helping students develop problem solving, numeracy as well as critical reasoning skills. I believe that knowledge of the academics must translate to real life applications. Apart from regular examinations, I encourage and help to organize quizzes and games which encourage reasoning and team building skills. Working together with other members of staff, we explore online resources adapting existing ideas and creating activities to meet the needs of our students. I particularly enjoy these moments as they enhance students-teacher relationships as well as afford informal evaluation of the academic work. This is most vital in an effort to make students realize that the educational process is not merely aimed at cerebral development leading to mere acquisition of academic certificates but the development of abilities and awareness for the betterment of the society.
A teacher role is multi-faceted. As a role-model, counselor and ad hoc parent to mention a few, his or her role includes guiding and protecting his or her wards. Societal ills, emotional, physical as well as economic challenges constantly tend to limit students’ response to the teachers efforts as an educator. I endeavor within the general context of the classroom and occasional opportunities one-on-one discourse to motivate and direct the students to make positive decisions. I understand that it is not mine to impose on students or to judge them. My role is to guide them along accepted norms and ethics.
I am flexible and can adapt to most changing situations. I know that each work place is dynamic possessing its own challenges and opportunities as well as limitations. I therefore quickly learn to cope and work within laid down rules and regulations.
Although I have little experience in teaching students with special needs or disabilities, I have the opinion, based on personal experience, that special needs students are not lacking in abilities only requiring specialized skills in teaching them. Skills which can be acquired given the right opportunities and motivation.
I am interested in the field of information technology especially in the field of data science. I intend to explore the possibilities of analyzing and interpretation of data for educational advancement and development in high schools across the world.
I am particularly excited at the prospect of working as a tutor on this platform because it will give me the opportunity of gaining global experience while adding value to the students.

In my tutoring sessions, I adopt a personalised approach aimed at addressing the specific needs and weaknesses of each student. I start by engaging the student in a conversation to identify their areas of struggle and then tailor the lesson accordingly. Utilising assessment questions as a guide, I structure the teaching content to focus on these identified weak points. Interactivity is a key element in my methodology—I incorporate powerpoints to aid visualisation and regularly pause to ask questions, ensuring that the material is not only presented but also absorbed.
To reinforce understanding, I introduce practice questions, initially working through a few collaboratively and gradually allowing the student to tackle the rest independently. The subsequent review of these questions, emphasising any mistakes made, is a crucial part of the learning process. I believe in providing constructive feedback and encouraging students to learn from their errors, fostering a growth mindset.
The length of my lessons is flexible, ranging from 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending entirely on the student's preferences and needs. Regardless of the duration, I ensure that each segment of the lesson is evenly distributed, maintaining a well-balanced and efficient use of time.
Drawing on my experience as a volunteer tutor for KS3 maths during my time in sixth form, I received positive feedback from both students and teachers, noting a tangible improvement in the academic performance of those I assisted. This experience has fuelled my commitment to delivering effective and impactful tutoring.
My target audience encompasses KS2, KS3, and KS4 students in maths, physics, and computer science, along with A-level Computer Science and BTEC IT levels 1-3. I take pride in my versatility and adaptability, ensuring that my tutoring services are accessible and beneficial to a diverse range of students.

I am a highly qualified, organised and self-driven individual with experience in working with children from years 1 to 13, teaching Mathematics in schools and as a private tutor. I have excellent time management skills and extensive experience in preparing engaging lessons adhering to the curriculum and each students’ learning needs and style.
Reflecting on my personal educational experience, external reading and modules I’ve taken up on teaching on top of my degree, I appreciate the impact the teachers make on the lives of young people. Furthermore, I believe that the skills and knowledge acquired throughout a young person’s education academically and personally has an immeasurable influence on their future. Therefore, as a tutor, I teach the material critically, specifically by expanding on the “whys” and the “hows” behind different techniques which would then encourage the students to look at the world more critically.
Additionally, I believe that understanding the reasoning behind each step from a young age is essential to strengthen their independent problem solving skills. Moreover, I believe this is pivotal in reducing maths anxiety, a common type of anxiety many suffer from which has proven to have an adverse effect on academic performance and motivation levels of students across all years.
My Educational Ethos
Throughout my experience as a teaching assistant, I have noticed that many students across all year groups abandon questions if it seems unfamiliar or difficult at first glance. However, when broken down in to steps students are capable of either working out a few of the steps towards the correct answer or reaching the complete answer by themselves.
I believe that one of the main reasons leading to this is the students’ lack of confidence in their ability and knowledge. Therefore, as part of my teaching process I focus on bridging the gap between classwork and being able to adapt their learnings to solve problems.
1. Starter activity
To build their confidence and reinforce their learnings, I start each of my lessons with a starter activity. This would include few questions on the material they have learned in previous lessons or the learnings directly relevant to the material covered in that lesson. I feel that this gives the students the opportunity to refresh their memory and skills whilst subtly drawing attention to the tools necessary for that lesson. These review activities and regular exercises help commit their learnings to long term memory leading to improved academic results.
For example, if the lesson was about using the circle theorems to find the angle x in a circle, I would start my lesson with a fun activity involving circle theorems.
2. Frequent reviewing sessions
Similarly, I like to commit half an hour to an hour per month reviewing and refreshing the material they’ve learnt over the course of the month. This is a great opportunity for the students to ask questions and brush up on their skills. Furthermore, this gives me an opportunity to review their understanding and focus on the divisions I feel could be improved. These reviewing sessions ensure effective learning as most of the material is built upon previous skills and learnings and consolidating the underpinning topics is key, especially in Mathematics.
3. Exercises
I believe the exercises given to the student must be tailored to their educational level and include questions which stretch their understanding to reach their maximum potential. This is because the first few exercises must build their confidence and then that can confidence can be used to introduce and encourage students to attempt more challenging problems.
With my lessons, I adapt the exercises per student depending on their ability because I strongly believe that this is the most effective method of teaching as no two students are the same. As a private tutor, I believe that this is the perfect opportunity for the students to gain the most personalised and therefore most effective lessons. Therefore, I make my lessons highly adaptive to cater to the needs and educational level of the students to enable them to reach their maximum results.
4. The whys and the hows
If the students understand the underpinning concepts behind each method, then I believe that leads to better results. A majority of the times, students are taught each method as a set of instructions. However, I believe that this is not the most effective way of teaching or learning as this does not promote independent problem solving skills and the likelihood of confusion increases if the students were to learn a set of processes per each topic. Therefore, I teach topics by placing emphasis on the objective of the problem and explaining why each step is taken.
I believe that education should be focused on the individual needs, and engage students in the process of their learning. I believe that all students have strengths and acquired knowledge, and the purpose of education is to assist students in identifying and building upon these.
One-on-one tutoring gives the opportunity for the teachings to be catered to the individual style and needs of the student which is not fulfilled to the same extent in school. Therefore, tutoring is the perfect opportunity for the student to reach their maximum potential because unlike in schools, these lessons will be going at a pace that is right for the student. Thus, it gives them the opportunity to master all areas.
For these reasons, my lessons are unique and made with the student in mind to cater to their individual needs and learning styles. This is how I ensure the students reach their maximum potential!
