I have over 5 years experience in teaching clarinet, piano and music theory to private students and group classes of all ages. In 2009 I received an Associate Diploma in Piano from the New Zealand Music Examinations Board, and was a nominee for the New Zealand Young Performer of the Year Award in the instrumental category (for clarinet performance). I have extensive experience in orchestra, chamber music and community band settings and strongly believe in supporting students to contribute and perform in group settings.
Additionally, I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts with 1st Class Honours, with a specialisation in painting and drawing. I have multiple years of experience in teaching both of these subjects, alongside other arts and creative classes in a museum and gallery education setting - in the past I have run life drawing classes, museum collections drawing classes, puppetry programmes, street art education programmes and holiday programmes combining science, art and history in accessible and exciting ways. I'm passionate about passing on skills and creative techniques to others and am happy to design workshops or series of classes to suit your own needs or projects.

"Stuart is a great teacher, he always makes every class interesting & different each week, inspired us by using various materials & techniques in different ways stretching our www.*** is always positive with his criticism which encouraged you to produce some great works, this makes the classes enjoyable discussing our work together, feeling the group were a team.
His interest & encouragement has inspired me to continue with life drawing. "
"If I have any regret of my time being tutored by Stuart it is that I only joined his group a year before he moved away from Bury St Edmunds yet even in that short time with his remarkable skills as a teacher I found my drawing skills generally; and figure drawing skills in particular; improved considerably. Because of his instruction and guidance and the foundation it gave me my art has developed and evolved to embrace most media and other genre. I will always be grateful to him."
"Stuart manages to bring variety in his approach to classes. Some weeks he positions tables propped upright on their ends and we work in various media on paper the full size of the model. Sometimes we draw a model who moves in various ways in rotation. Our still life evenings are also different, he brings in a pigs head for us to draw, and also a brace of pheasants. Stuart is always very encouraging. He covers all the basics in teaching us how to measure the body by eye, by aligning different parts of the body, and demonstrates different media techniques. "
"Stuart came with enthusiasm and willingness to share his skills. Within the group hw was able to bring out individual artistic talents. He gave us confidence to attempt many different techniques.
My art abilities are definitely built on groundings set by him"
