About GMAT

The Graduate Management Admission Test, also known as the GMAT is a test that is used to assess your ability to succeed in business school. It covers quantitative, verbal, and analytical writing skills. The exam assesses analytical writing and problem-solving abilities while also including critical reasoning skills which are vital to real-world business and management success.

The exam can be taken up to five times a year with the attempts being at least 16 days apart. The GMAT is scored on a scale of 200-800, with the average score being around 550.

Why is the GMAT so important?

The GMAT is so important because it is one of the key factors that business schools use to determine whether or not you are a good fit for their program. A high GMAT score can open up doors to top-ranked business schools, while a low score may close them.

Most business schools require applicants to take the GMAT as part of the admissions process. Some schools also use GMAT scores to determine scholarship awards.

How to prepare for the GMAT?

There is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question. Every individual has different learning styles and preferences, so you will need to find a study method that works best for you. There are a number of GMAT prep courses available, both in-person and online. These courses can provide you with the structure and support you need to succeed on the exam. If you prefer to study on your own, there are a number of GMAT prep books and practice tests available. Additionally, there are a number of free GMAT resources available online.

Whichever route you decide to take, be sure to give yourself enough time to study. GMAT prep takes time and effort, but it is worth it in the end. GMAT scores are valid for five years, so if you don't get the score you want the first time around, you can always take the exam again.

What is the format of the GMAT?

The GMAT consists of four sections: Quantitative, Verbal, Integrated Reasoning, and Analytical Writing.

The Quantitative section measures your ability to reason quantitatively, solve mathematical problems, and interpret data. It consists of 37 multiple-choice questions and must be completed within 75 minutes.

The Verbal section measures your ability to read and understand written material, and to evaluate arguments. It consists of 41 multiple-choice questions and must be completed within 75 minutes.

The Integrated Reasoning section measures your ability to analyse data and draw conclusions from it. It consists of 12 multiple-choice questions and must be completed within 30 minutes.

The Analytical Writing section measures your ability to analyse an issue and write a coherent essay. It consists of one essay question and must be completed within 30 minutes.

GMAT questions are designed to be difficult, so don't expect them to be easy. The best way to prepare for the GMAT is to familiarise yourself with the exam format and question types. This way, you will know what to expect on test day and will be better prepared to tackle the questions.
