I am a holder of three university degrees in the arts accompanied with more than twenty years professional experience as an Art director in London, UK. Also a holder of a TEFL for teaching english as a foreign language with experience worldwide and online.
I've taught Photography for 18 years in secondary, further, and higher education in both the UK and USA and provide friendly, knowledgable private tuition. This includes black and white film processing and printing in the darkroom, digital photography, editing and manipulating in Photoshop, and experimental creative processes. Other areas of specialism include personal creative development, contextual research, critical analysis and annotation, and writing skills.
Whilst Head of Photography at an inner London secondary school for over 4 years, my GCSE Photography classes achieved the highest grades in the school for two years running. I set fun and enjoyable exercises, explain and break instructions, methods, and assignments down into understandable bites, and will provide you with learning materials to simplify tasks and meet the needs of students with a range of practical and academic abilities.
With my tuition, I'm confident that you can learn new skills, develop and expand your current level of knowlege, and excel in this subject area. Tutoring can take place in my home or yours or in an alternative location.

My career has involved the management of change within an increasingly technological driven media workplace. We hoped to achieve this in particular by increasing confidence and self esteem with removing barriers that would be traditionally by in place associated with the media industry. I enjoy prioritising my workload to consistently produce work of high accuracy with excellent attention to detail skills and a logical approach to problem solving. My professionalism and organised approach enable me to remain calm when working under pressure and I am enthusiastic and conscientious, with a natural ability to deal appropriately with people on all levels. I also enjoy a challenge and am quick to learn new tasks and take on board new ideas. I undertake to try and attend all the conferences held to ensure that I am fully aware of all the current and future debates that involve the work of the photographer.
My working experience in the world of professional media production complement this such as magazine production as an editor and also creating community radio stations these have given my a good contact book which I can draw on when needed. with respect to my work at local colleges I delivered A2 print production to 15 students with all gaining grades of B to A's this year. I can ensure an absolute professional delivery of all aspects of media both theory and practical that is grounded in my own success rate in the past. I'm Mark the director of Creative Studios Derby Ltd. I have been an Adobe software trainer for 15 years now both freelance, at the University of Derby and for my own company. Previously to that worked as a Graphic Designer for 6 years. I have a lot of experience training individuals and groups at all levels, from small freelance individuals up to multinational companies.
I was educated in graphic design using hot metal type; progressed through the wonders of golfball typewriters and fax machines; and worked in four major Fleet Street newspapers when they were still produced by individuals on Linotype machines the size of wardrobes with molten lead furnaces in them – indoors!
Not only to avoid lava damage to the offices carpets, newspaper journalism moved to mainframe computers. However, all illustrations and maps were done by hand until Steve Jobs brought us the Apple SE in 1987.
First, I taught myself to use the Mac – because there was no one in those days to teach me – and then I taught and enabled many designers to make the move to these life/career/business-changing machines.
Thirty-six years of working for clients in London, Britain and in Europe, developing skills to solve hundreds of clients' complex requests, has given me a wealth of experience of how to get the best out of your computer, and yourself.
