Growing up, I thought learning was difficult. As an adult, I’ve made it my mission to make concepts easy to understand. I’ve got vast experience teaching and learning.
I am a well-organised teacher and I am passionate about my subject my goal is to help students improve their numeracy skills and achieve their full potential also, I enjoy having a positive impact on young people and changing their lives for the better.
My career has been as a learning and development specialist with 30 years in an airlines, and a rich background of 20 years as a private tutor, successfully coaching students up to GCSE level.
As a tutor, I have taught students from grade 6 to GCSE Level, and in my profession as an instructor conducted classroom training and hands-on workshop sessions for pilot, mechanic and communication trainees and technical apprentices aged 18 – 23 years. Experienced IT trainer in MS Windows, MS Office and other software.
Delivering engaging sessions with clear learning objectives that encouraged positive participation; motivating high school students and young adults succeed in education, and achieve self-independence. I am friendly, approachable and enjoy making learning meaningful for pupils. My lessons begin with starting activities to recap the previous learning, identify any misconceptions. Moving onto the main part of the lesson I plan activities promoting fluency in the skill then application to a real-life situation or worded exam-style question. Games and quizzes can be fun and useful in testing rapid recall.
I have been teaching for fifteen years and have taught learners of all abilities, backgrounds and socio-economic circumstances, planning for progression and offering timely feedback. I am a qualified Primary School Teacher from Urmston. I left University in 2011 with a First Class BA Honours in Primary Education and have taught in Primary Schools in Trafford ever since. With over 13 years experience teaching in EYFS, KS1, LKS2, I have extensive knowledge of the Primary National Curriculum and end of year expectations. I have been privately tutoring Mathematics to students from the ages 10-18 (Secondary School through to A-Levels) over the past four years whilst completing my Master's degree in Mathematics. I take great pride in my work as a tutor, and always make it a priority to make my students feel comfortable that they can ask me any questions at any time during a lesson. Having been on both sides of the small classroom teaching dynamic, I can sympathise with how some students may feel a sense of unease when starting a new class with a new teacher, which can ultimately impact their classroom learning. During my lessons, I like to stress the importance that this is not simply another classroom lesson where I talk and the student should remain quiet, and instead encourage my students to ask me any and all questions they have about the subject. The more they can tell me about their concerns with Mathematics, the more information I have to work with when adapting the lesson to their needs. My preferred teaching style is to look through previous work that a student has completed, and create complete breakdowns to topics/exam question solutions to give the student a step-by-step method that they can use beyond the lesson. After each lesson, I send an email with a document attached that contains all of the information discussed during the lesson, so that they can use the teachings at their own leisure in the future. If I specialise my lessons to each student, then what would be the point of me not sharing the resources afterwards? My working times are quite flexible, as I work from home, so most days from 10:00 - 18:00 work well for me. This is not a strict time window, however, so please feel free to contact me with alternative times outside of these hours, and we can see if we can make it work.
