I am an enthusiastic PhD researcher/student in Classics at the University of Cambridge, where I also completed a BA in Classics (grade: First Class Honours) and MPhil in Classics (grade: Distinction; Classical Members’ Essay Prize for the year’s best MPhil theses). I am originally from Italy, where I completed the Italian equivalent of A-Levels in various subjects, including Italian.
I have tutoring experience and university-level teaching experience:
- Postgraduate Teaching Assistant (running reading classes on Ovid’s Ars Amatoria, Sallust’s Catiline, Homer’s Iliad), Faculty of Classics, University of Cambridge (2021-).
- Supervisor (leading small-group teaching sessions on Greek and Latin translation, Greek epic, Aristophanes’ Frogs, Euripides’ Bacchae, the Greek Novel, and female characters, voices, and authors in Greek literature, from Alcman to Julia Balbilla), Clare College, Murray Edwards College, St Catherine’s College, Emmanuel College, St John’s College, University of Cambridge (2021-).

I am an extremely patient, empathetic teacher and I tailor my lessons to each individual student. My mission is to get all students to the level required for performing as well as possible in their exams and concretely improve their knowledge of Ancient Greek, Latin, Italian and every topic related to 'Classical Civilisation'.
I have been a secondary school teacher of English for 10 years, as well as Classical Civilisation at GCSE and A-level, and more recently, Latin at KS3. I am dedicated to ensuring students make progress and achieve what they are capable of, have a genuine passion for my subjects and a great knowledge of the curriculum and secondary exam system.
Having taught for ten years, I have a great knowledge and understanding of the curriculum, including the English GCSE specification, of which I have taught both the AQA and Edexcel exam syllabus. I have experience of teaching drama at both KS3 and KS4 with WJEC and am currently teaching Latin and Classics at KS3, 4 and 5.
I have much experience of teaching English as a foreign language, having completed a TEFL course prior to my training as a secondary school teacher. I've taught EFL at all levels and abilities, both in summer schools in the UK, and at an English language school in China, where I taught students from young toddlers up to adults.
I have a relaxed and friendly approach to working with students, and a positive approach to learning; focussing on the students' strengths as well as their areas for improvement to ensure progress. I am an Oxford graduate (Worcester College), with a degree in Literae Humaniores - Latin and Greek language and literature, as well as ancient and modern philosophy (BA 2013, MA 2016) I am also a professional classical singer and conductor, active around the UK. I am a Lay Vicar at Chichester Cathedral, where I sing professionally with the cathedral choir. Friendly, approachable, and professional, I am passionate about teaching and helping people to develop their knowledge and skills.
My business, JB Tutoring, operates from Chichester. I offer teaching and tutoring in singing, voice use, music, classical languages and classical literature. I also tutor online, so I am able to take on students from anywhere. I teach and tutor my academic subjects at a variety of levels, from pre-GCSE to undergraduate and master's level, and my students most often go on to receive A*s and 1st Class results in their examinations. I am also happy to tutor younger pupils towards Common Entrance examinations. My language teaching is based on the way in which classical languages are taught at Oxford, and I believe in the development both of analytical language skills and an instinct for the art of translation. For GCSE and A-Level, it is important for vocabulary and grammar to be secure, so I encourage a rigorous approach to language, but one that is interesting. I ask for a tutee to try their hardest - as long as they do, they will be met with an enthusiastic, patient, and understanding tutor, a tutor dedicated to his teaching and his pupil. It is vital to tailor sessions to the student, and I customise my lessons for each student I have based on their needs.
I am a highly experienced, flexible and very versatile tutor, with advanced degrees and teaching qualifications in business, finance, history, literature, art, classics, maths and sciences. I teach at Middlesex University, and also conduct face to face and online training for a variety of other clients, from teenagers up to adult professionals. I have experience with exam prep (IB, CFA, CISI) as well as undergrad and postgrad courses in the subjects listed above. I can travel across London or even overseas for the right assignments. I believe I charge fairly for value provided, and promote an engaging, enjoyable teaching and learning style.
My name is Ginevra P., I am an italian pianist, accompanist, repetiteur and chamber musician based in Genova, Italy, since the virus pandemic outbrake. I am once again working as official Piano accompanist at the Genova’s Conservatoire N. Paganini, where I am pursuing a certification for teaching Music Education. I have spent the last four years in Birmingham, where I pursued a Master in Music and a post-master course PSP in Piano performance at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, and I am currently looking for opportunities to work as a piano teacher in one to one and ensembles lessons.
My primary Goal as a teacher is to instil and broaden my students’ interest for music and to develop and ensure their music skills to be able to continue in their musical studies. Working hard as a private and scholastic piano teacher for ten years has been one of the most rewarding and inspiring experiences of my life whilst contemporarily allowing me to grow both professionally and as a person. Over the years I taught more than 30 students aged between six and seventy and I have adapted my teaching technique to the specific needs of each individual, considering differences in terms of age, instrumental practice level, music taste and personal Goals. I especially spreading enthusiasm and encouraging patience among them . As an eclectic musician, my passion for many kinds of music and for instilling love and enthusiasm for music in my students are the common and fundamental qualities in my teaching, which provide me with the flexibility to teach different skills to any type of student. I started to play the piano when I was four years old and I have always been deeply passionate about music of any type, from early Baroque to modern Rock and Pop. As a soloist I have been working hard on my self-confidence, an aspect which I continuously strive to instil in my students from a young age. When preparing a performance, my preparation relies on self appraisal skills and on my teacher’s feedback. Moreover, after four years of piano exams, coaching and performances of high quality at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, it is clear to me that the teacher’s belief in their students’ potential and success, thus investing their personal energy, truly is a student’s great fortune. During my piano studies I also focused on chamber music and opera accompaniment, disciplines that require not only musical and pianistic abilities but also strong leadership skills. I believe that leading a group of musicians relates to teaching a group of students: both situations require someone to guide the general Team efforts to good achievements, which makes the difference. This Kind of work can be challenging at times, owing to the increased personal responsibility one bears, not only for the project's musical success but also for its participants and their development, to enable them to give their best in a supportive, yet professional, environment. After several experiences within group projects, I am quietly confident that I possess the qualities which contribute to ensuring a project’s success, amongst the most important ones of which I count enthusiasm, positivity, honesty and calmness. In my opinion, these are also the keywords for a successful student - teacher relationship. The most important thing I have learnt in my carreer yet is how fundamental it is to keep a focus on my commitment to continued learning. I enjoy continuously engaging with my professional development; the music world offers so many facets of which I would like to explore as many as possible with the aim of helping me become the most well-rounded and versed musician I can be, which will translate into being a more valuable teacher to my students. The aim of my piano studies is to increase my musical insight, my technical abilities and my interpretative approach, always looking for a deeper understanding of music in general, and of the pieces I play in particular. This attitude is necessary for a leader position such as teacher, because it pushes me to do the best I can and it transmits my dedication and passion to my students. Next to the piano practice, I spend much of my time studying the areas related to the music I play or simply enjoy, including history, philosophy, physics and classic literature. I am confident to say that knowledge will always enhance the musical qualities of any student. I would argue that a good teacher has to encourage each student to find personal connections between their music and their interests, guiding both their personal and interpretative growth. I think that this kind of ‘research study’, combined with technical practice, represents successful professional development both for the student and the teacher. I am a hard worker, and my teachers, such as Jan Loeffler and Pascal Nemirovski, have called me competent, empathetic and enthusiastic, all of which I would consider relevant qualities for teachers in a an environment of young students.
