I'm a recent graduate looking to help other students who struggle with the disguised complexity of essay subjects achieve their desired grades in a friendly, patient and approachable manner. I have helped many other students and friends of mine informally with their writing, and they always point out how easy it becomes once I lay out the correct formatting for them.
With guided practice, I can help students break down intimidating essay questions into manageable parts, build clear and convincing arguments, and express their views with confidence. My goal is to make academic writing feel less like a chore and more like a skill anyone can master with the right support.

I am a Team Leading examiner for GCSE History and A Level Politics and hold an Associate membership from the Chartered Institute of Educational Assessors. I hold my Advance Skills teaching from Warwick University (BECTA) and my teaching certificate from the University of Lancaster. I have written research papers on education and history, published under BECTA (2005/6/7) that analysed the way that students learned. I am an experienced middle manager and have been a School Improvement Advisor for BECTA. I have taught for at The Harrodian school and currently teach History and Politics at The City of London School.
I have taught both AQA and Edexcel A-level Politics (examining for the former). I have a real passion for politics in the UK and the USA. I use current events from the week to highlight the course and allow my students to connect to what they are focusing on.
For History I have a passion for US history and have also taught French Revolution, Mao`s China and Germany. For GCSE I examine for AQA - paper 2 Elizabeth, though have taught both AQA, Edexcel and the Cambridge IGCSE. I can cover most areas.

I’m a passionate and approachable history tutor with a Master’s degree from the University of Edinburgh, where I explored a wide range of historical subjects—from early medieval Italian knightly culture to the long-term consequences of the Iraq Wars and modern debates about the state. I’ve always been fascinated by the way history shapes how we understand the world, and I aim to pass that sense of curiosity and critical thinking on to the students I work with.
Before that, I achieved top marks in History at GCSE (Grade 9) and at IB (Level 7/A*), so I’m very familiar with the challenges and expectations of exam boards. Whether you’re preparing for GCSE, A-Level, IB, or university-level assessments, I offer tailored support that balances genuine interest in the subject with practical exam technique. I focus on helping students structure their thoughts, write more clearly and persuasively, and build the confidence to engage with challenging topics.
Alongside tutoring, I write investigative journalism articles, recently focusing on the future of AI in modern warfare and the operations of Soviet spy networks in Cold War Europe. This work keeps me engaged with complex research, source analysis, and long-form writing—skills I aim to develop in my students as well.
Outside of tutoring, I’m preparing to start a full-time role in investigative journalism this September. I’ve also walked across Anatolia, trekked through the Himalayas across India, Tibet, and Nepal, and practise Muay Thai—all experiences that have taught me discipline, patience, and how to remain focused under pressure.
Above all, I believe history should never feel dry or distant. I work closely with each student to make it come alive, so they can succeed in their studies and think more deeply about the world around them.

My name is Gary H. and I am a 20 year old History graduate from the University of Liverpool. I have always been a keen historian however I always found it hard to understand what was actually expected of me from History exams and tests, this became a massive problem at GCSE with History being the worst grade that I had achieved. My perserverance for the subject that I loved however lead me to gain a newfound understanding about what the examiners were expecting you to be able to do in a History essay and being able to translate good knowledge of the subject into good essays. This understanding is what lead to me eventually gaining an A in my History A-Level as well as 71/75 in one of the papers, following this I transitioned to doing a BA Honors degree at a Russell Group University in the subject that 3 years prior was my worst GCSE. I have a deep understanding of what a History essay is meant to look like as well as being able to understand where potential pitfall come for those who study hard but seem to not be getting the grades that their hard work deserves. I want to provide help to people that were in my position not knowing how to progress and I feel that I have the skill set to be able to do so.

I am a final year History student at Bristol. I have lots of experience working in primary school as well as someone to one tuition. I am confident, enthusiastic and really enjoy teaching looking to become a teacher after I graduate.
I usually teach for around an hour typically to primary school age but I am looking to teach some older years as well. I like to keep the lesson interactive not focusing on the same exercise for too long. I find primary school-age children struggle to focus on the same thing for a long time. However, what I like about tutoring one-to-one or in small groups is that it gives you a lot of space to be flexible depending on who I am teaching.

I have always enjoyed interacting with children and strongly believe that interacting with younger students has taught me the importance of patience and understanding. Tutoring enables the expansion of an important skill set, such as, the ability to break explanations down into new perspectives when a pupil doesn’t at first understand. It is thrilling when that ‘lightbulb’ moment in a pupil’s eyes arises once the answer/solution clicks.
As a student, I achieved high grades and enjoyed sports although I would say my main strength has always been empathy and ability to connect with people. Interacting with both children and parents has always come naturally to me. During my time at secondary school, I was often chosen to tour prospective parents on Open Day and younger children would regularly approach me for guidance (both academic and otherwise).
Moreover, in 2023 I was diagnosed with ADHD. At school I often found it difficult to study and didn’t know why it was so hard to simply sit down and concentrate. Having undiagnosed ADHD meant that I resorted to trying different learning methods and experimenting with a multitude of revision strategies to complete my studies.
Despite having ADHD I managed to retain strong grades throughout my academic journey. The diagnosis simply enabled me to deepen my understanding of how to navigate my studies whilst having an attention deficit. The knowledge and patience I acquired on this journey I would be glad to share with tutees regardless of whether they have learning difficulties.

I completed my PGCE in History Secondary teaching at the institute of Education in 2004 and since then have worked in a range of state and private schools, as well as tutoring all ages from primary to A Level. I currently teach History and Politics at at top London school. In addition I am an examiner for GCSE, IGCSE and A Level with Edexcel and OCR. As an experienced teacher and tutor, I recognise that all students approach the subject in different ways and have different strengths and areas for improvement. I am a firm believer in positive reinforcement however this must be combined with academic rigour. My work as a GCSE and A Level examiner gives me a valuable insight into what it is that examiners are looking for and I will use this to bring out the best in my students but at the same time help them be as prepared as they can be for public examinations. I am patient and enthusiastic - I love my subjects - and I aim to instil this enthusiasm in my students.

I am a recent graduate from Cambridge University in History and am currently completing a postgraduate degree in Intellectual History.
I am passionate about all forms of historical processes across space and time.
At undergraduate level I focused on eighteenth century British socioeconomics, nineteenth century British parliamentary politics; eleventh and twelfth century European history (including heresy and the Crusades); Enlightenment political thought; the early modern Ottoman and Safavid empires; nineteenth century Islamic political thought; and Tokugawa Japan. This wide-ranging portfolio means that I can provide a breadth of expertise to students at GCSE and A-level, but am also more than open to teaching many other historical contexts.
I have particular specialisms in historiography; intellectual history; and political thought, which I am happy to teach to any students looking for post-A-level tutoring.
As a native French speaker and additionally, having proficient reading ability in Latin, I am pleased to also provide Latin and French language lessons, either in addition to History lessons or independantly of them.
My techniques and teaching methodology:
- My tutoring style is first and foremost tailored to each individual student. I work closely with students to create customized study plans that help them achieve their academic goals. I use engaging and effective teaching methods to help students understand difficult concepts and develop the skills they need to succeed in History, French or Latin exams and beyond. I also use tools to monitor and track student progress, and provide regular feedback to students.
- Interactive teaching that supports independent thinking is a mode of teaching that I find particularly rewarding, as I aim to adapt my tutoring technique to suit the prior knowledge and learning needs of different students. This requires an accomodation of mixed abilities and knowledge levels through inclusive, question-led teaching practices based on the student's contributions.
My Qualifications:
- MA in Intellectual History, Jesus College, Oxford University (2023-2024)
- BA in History, Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge University (2020-2023)
- A-Levels: History (A*), French (A*), Latin (A*), Ancient Greek (A)
- GCSEs: 13 A*s
Teaches:
- History (GCSE, A-level, BA level)
- French (GCSE and A-level)
- Latin (GCSE)
Please let me know if you have any questions! I look forward to working with you. :)

As an A-level student, balancing continuous volunteering work, in various sectors such as tutoring and mentoring, with education has ensured that I have developed the skills of time management and organisation. Through undertaking a variety of volunteering opportunities; ambition, drive, passion, and perseverance have been amongst a variety of abilities that I have had to develop to ensure success. I hope to use my interpersonal skills to work alongside a team that prioritises the student’s satisfaction and their experience.
As a part of my Silver Duke of Edinburgh volunteering, I tutored students in the lower year of my school with the aim of improving their grades before they began the GCSE process. Many of these students were often easily distracted and prone to misbehaving during tutoring sessions, necessitating a great deal of persistence, perseverance, and patience to get round to the students and ensure that they were focused on their tasks. As I tutored while mentoring these students, I needed to be able to present the role of both an authoritative figure and a peer. The key to success was to maintain a fun and motivating learning environment.
