I have taught across a range of schools in both the UK and abroad and therefore have knowledge of teaching GCSEs, IGCSEs, A-Levels and IB. I am currently teaching in a private school for secondary level students and am willing to offer lessons to students who are in need of catch up for their language GCSE and Alevels. I am a keen linguist and have lived in Germany, Switzerland and China.

I did my PGCE in German with French which involved the usual two teaching practices. I completed these in two comprehensive schools. Since gaining QTS in my first teaching job in 2005, I have taught German, French and Spanish in three secondary schools, all at Keystages 3, 4 and 5. I am currently employed teaching all three of these languages in an independent school.
I believe that, in the drive to raise pupil confidence in speaking and general communication, there has been a decline in rigorous grammar teaching. My feeling is that knowing the grammatical foundations of a language well, in the long run, provides a basis upon which to build and therefore facilitates more confident and accurate communication. I try to strike a balance between sound reinforcement of the fundamentals whilst nurturing curiosity in the learner to try things out, manipulating language across contexts. With German in particular I like to offer an insight into the culture of the country and my time living in Germany enables me to bring the language "out of the page". I really enjoy teaching and like to engage my pupils so that they feel comfortable to ask questions. I also inject a little humour into my delivery, which has enhanced my teaching and boosted relationships. Mine is a safe place for learners to develop.

I have experience in tutoring GCSE German students while I was studying A-levels. I fully understand the importance of these exams for young people as someone who has only just recently finished their A-levels, the stress placed upon young people during the exam period can be overwhelming. Therefore, I will aim to make any students feel at ease and relieve some pressure through my service. During my time at the Weald School and Sixth Form I studied German from year 7 through to year 13 where I completed both my GCSE and A-level courses. Over this time I have not only obtained a strong grasp of the German language, but I have also discovered techniques that help in order to meet the more specific requirements laid out by exam boards such as AQA. During the A-level course I was able to expand my analytical skills through paper 2 which involves 2 400+ word essays on a german book and film.
I also studied Business studies (edexcel) at A-level, which helped me further develop essay writing and analytical skills due to long answer questions such as 20 markers where accurate and concise analysis is pivotal in order to enter the top band of marks for the specific question. I also learned the significance of applying knowledge from other areas of the course to answer questions which are more broad and vague in order to highlight knowledge of the whole course, which I believe to be key in order to make your work stand out in the eyes of the examiner.
The final subject I studied at A-level was Physical Education (OCR) , which provides a variety of assessment criteria such as written assessments (70% of the course) in addition to a practical assessment and a verbal assessment of performance and improvement for a sporting performer. This course requires a lot of preparation leading up to the exams due to the difference between each assessment. For instance, paper 1 is based on the science of sport www.*** anatomy, biomechanics and exercise physiology and therefore has a heavy focus on knowledge while paper 3 (socio-cultural paper) is more based on application and writing in an essay style manner. I believe that my experience of completing the course can help those in need of pushing their grade up in PE.
Moreover, I am also open to helping those who solely have an interest in these subject areas and helping them expand their knowledge, as well as helping students boost their grades in GCSE's/A-levels.
Thanks for reading and I look forward to hearing from you,
Olly.
