Science Clinic Private Tutors was founded in 2010. Our vision was to help struggling children understand the concepts of the major subjects which are sought after by many colleges & universities. Our tutoring was mainly in the main subjects (Maths, all 3 Sciences & English Language) to exam students only. Because of the huge demand of tutoring in all year groups, we now teach students across the board from Primary (KS1 & KS2) through to GCSE, A-level and University. We were luck to have had colleagues we share the same vision with join us. Now we can teach all subjects from Primary through to GCSE, College /A-levels and Science & Maths at University level. All our teachers / tutors are graduates and qualified teachers with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) who understand the National Curriculum. Some of them are examiners at GCSE and A-level, which means they know the exam techniques students need to answer the exam questions properly and get better grades. Within the team, we have professionals with very high qualifications ie Masters Degrees (MSc / MA) and PhDs in various subjects. We can, therefore, be confident to say we are professionals who are dedicated to what we do with proven records in the UK’s most entrance and national exams. We are a tutoring organisation that is defined by its professionalism. Our aim is to provide a personal service. This makes us very different from most tutoring companies that just offer a platform for tutors and students to meet. We speak to clients so that we can match them with the most appropriate tutor for their needs. When this happens, the results can be remarkable & confidence grows. We personally know all our tutors and all have had DBS checks and their qualifications checked before we take them on. We are also a member of The Tutors’ Association (TTA) which was formed in 2013 to provide standards to the tutoring industry.
I have been teaching German for 30 + years in schools and colleges of further education and now I tutor from home online. I specialise in preparing students for their GCSE and A level German exams but also teach at all levels from beginners to post A level. I have a degree in German, a Master's of Education and a PGCE and am completely fluent in German having lived and worked in Germany for several years. Harriet lived in Spain on the Costa Blanca for sixteen years where she grew up speaking the Spanish language with fluency. During this time Harriet taught at an International Language School in Spain and decided to return to the UK, where she was educated at Rugby School and then went on to obtain her degree in Spanish at the University of Chester.
In 2010 she set up The Spanish Academy, offering Spanish tuition to adults & children of all ages, and also became a Member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists. She has taught in a variety of secondary schools across Norfolk & Cambridgeshire and specialises in Spanish GCSE & A level tuition. After ten successful years, she is now tutoring on an online platform as well as face to face and teaching students from some of the UK’s top public schools such as Eton, Harrow & Radley.
Langauges that are offered at the Spanish Academy include Spanish, French, Italian and German. All lessons are also available to be carried out online via Zoom at a time to suit you weekly.
I have been tutoring for over 10 years and concentrate mainly on GCSE. I teach many adults from scratch or picking up where they left at school. I teach as I learned, not as a native speaker, but as a language lover who enjoyed languages at school and at university and aim to support my students by helping them with grammar and vocabulary so that they can make good progress.
When my own children were doing their GCSE's, helping them lead me to discover how much I loved teaching. Last 5 years I have been teaching Mathematics in schools in Leicestershire, preaparing students for their tests and GCSE exams and improving their Maths skills. I took courses in German and Latin during my undergraduate at Cornell University, achieving a minor in German Studies. I continued studying Latin over the course of my MPhil at the University of Cambridge, using it to look at medieval sources in the original language. I have two years of experience tutoring my classmates in German and Latin, and, as a prospective future teacher, I'm interested to offering my services to students who can use my help. I typically like to start lessons by pinpointing the problems and discomforts my students have with language, and develop strategies to combat them from there. Studying Latin has given me a strong understanding of how grammar structures language, and this informs my pedagogy, making me a clear explicator of the many uncertainties that come with grammar. Lessons can look different depending on the student's needs; I'm happy to work on homework together, go over past assignments and exams to find areas to improve, and to teach lessons when the student requires more individual attention. Most importantly, the student and their needs come first. As such, I'm happy to tutor in person or online, meeting the student in the middle to offer them the help they need to succeed.
