I have an extensive knowledge of teaching and learning from nursery to year six. I have high expectations for behaviour and maintain a calm, respectful and hard-working learning environment where pupils are comfortable and learn to the best of their ability. I am passionate about all subjects but English and maths have always been two favourite subjects of mine; they form the foundation for learning in all other subjects and I believe teaching pupils maths and english forms the very basis of the present day society in which children and young adults are living today. With this ethos in mind, I have a very high subject matter knowledge in English with regard to grammar and writing structure and in maths with regards to reasoning and mental arithmetic. I have worked as a year 6 teacher in many schools. I have extensive knowledge of the new format of the SATs and am able to teach intervention groups and booster groups to raise children's knowledge of reading, the SPAG tests, and mathematic reasoning and arithmetic tests. I feel that working with smaller groups in these subject areas can be more beneficial: some children gain a considerable amount from intensive focused teaching whether their need is emotional or academic. I have had a great deal of experience working in classrooms with whole groups of children and also have worked with small groups of children outside the classroom. I have seen the positive effects that one-to-one intervention can have on children and always bring that level of academic intimacy to the classroom.
My teaching career started in Moscow, where I worked for 8 years with adults and kids of all levels. My experience in Russia gave me the opportunity to study a foreign language, so I have a deep understanding of the frustrations and difficulties of language acquisition. I still attend online Russian classes, so I know exactly how it feels to be an online language learner. In 2011, I returned to the UK and started working freelance as an online English tutor. I found students by making videos on YouTube, and anyone who is interested in my teaching methodology should watch some of my lessons. I now have more than 500 English lessons on my YouTube channel.
For the last 4 years, I have been teaching English grammar to hundreds of UK English teachers as part of a Skills and Knowledge Enhancement course (SKE), funded by the Department for Education. In these classes, I give my colleagues tips on how to identify parts of speech, how to punctuate phrases and clauses, and how to recognize rhetorical devices. I have enjoyed this opportunity immensely, as it has provided me with a better insight into the nuances of English grammar.
I have also written two books over the last few years. One of these books is aimed at TEFL students, and deals with vocabulary (Visual Phrasal Verbs), while the other is written for natives, and deals with grammar and punctuation.
I teach English as a Foreign Language to all ages, levels, and nationalities. I am a big fan of the communicative approach, so my online classes are geared towards sharpening your speaking skills; in each lesson, I encourage students to retell an English book or film that they have recently seen, while I listen carefully and correct the mistakes. For many repeated mistakes, I simply make a gesture to let the student know about the error, and in this way, students get the chance to correct their own mistakes. During the classes, I make notes on any errors and new vocabulary, and I send a copy of this lesson feedback after the class. For homework, I set reading, writing, and grammar tasks. I also give links to YouTube videos from my channel, in which I explain the grammar or vocabulary topic in great detail so that students have access to my explanations, even when we are not physically 'in a lesson'. In addition to hundreds of online video lessons, I have a vocabulary book for learning phrasal verbs.
I also teach grammar to natives who would like to deepen their understanding of punctuation and rhetoric. I use my own course book, which focuses on how to identify different grammatical structures in typical GCSE texts (Animal Farm, Lord of the Flies, Frankenstein, 1984). This course has been extremely popular among the teachers that I work with. I am confident that I can teach the same course to anyone that wants to improve their use of English.
I have earned my Diploma in Primary Education at the St. Joseph’s Teachers’ College and I have currently completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Primary Education at The Mico University College which has trained me to be an efficient and effective teacher. While studying at The Mico University College I Advanced in English Language, as well as completing an action research paper on “How can a Phonemic Awareness Intervention Program Help Students who are Reading Below Their Grade Level?”

I offer french lessons from beginner level to experienced, no matter the age and expectations (whether it’s for school/exams or just if you want to learn a new language for fun). I can also offer my help with homework or any type of translation.
The first session is free because I believe it's important to first take some time to talk about your needs and expectations, evaluate your level and what I can bring you. And also just for you to decide wether you think I'm the right tutor for you.
Once we've set an objective, we can start building the perfect lesson for you. I like working with books, songs, movies and anything that can make the lesson more interactive. Doing a little bit of translation and conversing in french if your level allows it or just focusing on the basics while going at your own pace. I can also give homework in between lessons if we've agreed to. The whole point is for you to feel confident, ask as many questions as you need and progress.
