I've worked with children aged 5-17 for the past few years, volunteering at schools, local girl guiding groups and working over in America. I have a range of knowledge and skills to help tutor your child in any areas needed, and I'm also available to babysit or childmind on weekends or school holidays.
I have the patience and time to work 1-1 with any child no matter their age or abilities. I often work with SEN children, helping them with reading, maths and literacy.
I started off by babysitting cousins and family friends when they were younger, before moving on to volunteering at my local Rainbows unit (girls aged 5-8). I spent a few hours every Thursday night with these girls, doing crafts and fun activities to keep them engaged, entertained and motivated to earn more badges. When I got older I started volunteering at a local primary school where I had the chance to observe teachers and see how the classroom looks like on a day to day basis. I learned the fundamentals of teaching from my time there. I worked with children all throughout the school, helping with reading, writing, maths, literacy and art jobs. This is also when I spent time 1-1 with SEN children that needed that little extra help. Just before I decided to become a TA, I spent a summer in America working at a camp in Massachusetts. My time here was valuable and I spent a lot of time learning other ways on how to enrich a child's education. Most my time was teaching them arts and crafts, which is my specialty, but I also looked after them 24/7 becoming their Big Sister whilst away from home.

While I still maintain a teaching role, I have opened The Education House Tuition to support students near and far with their learning.
I have a masters degree in Education from Durham with a disseration focus on supporting SEND learners in the classroom, which I implement into my teaching.
I specialise in Online English tuition, covering all texts in the GCSE and KS3, along with essay writing practice and exam revision. My services also include online adult functional skills tuition. My mission is to help students become more confident in their English skills and to provide them with the tools and strategies for success.
A little about me in the school setting
My roles have allowed me to build on a range of areas that I have been interested in for some time. My focus on ‘pedagogy’ has been developed towards ‘praxis’ – the idea that one reflects and acts uponp ractice to transform it. What I have learnt is that a narrow focus on the classroom isn’t enough. Instead,an effective system is one which develops productive and synergistic relationships between learners,families, and the community, and that a deep understanding of the context in which you work, the locality and the culture in which learners live is crucial. I believe we have started on exciting journey here proceeding and developing positively on recent Ofsted feedback – building on those to ensure that learning really is a community endeavour in the best possible sense. My ‘curriculum’ will not stop at the door of a classroom, or the school gate but will be a transforming powerhouse for all living in the community. This, in practical terms could be parenting support in the form of coaching and peer support; providing evening classes in basic skills, parental revision classes to help them best assist their child. It could be using the school buildings as a base of local CPD provision, for meetings, for collaboration among local departments.
I have worked in primary schools, high schools and taught those who find barriers to education, likewise I have also worked in FE (Further Education) again teaching English and maths and employability skills. I also have experience of teaching in industry, English, maths and employability skills again plus Health and safety in a construction environment.
I regard myself as a caring professional person, that understands learners needs.
My teaching qualifications include being T. A (Teaching Assistant with SEN modules) and an Adult learning teacher holding DTLLS, (Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector) and an ESOL / TEFL (English, Maths, Mathematics, Employability, and Health and Safety lessons in Bishop Auckland, UK. Teaching English as a Foreign Language) teacher holding a masters in that area. I have a B. A honours degree 2:1 (Upper Second a short skip from being a First ) in Hisoty, Sociology adn Criminology and could also help students in these areas of study if need be,
I am available to do online teaching with students who require it via whatever learning platform Tutor Extra wants to provide.

Following completion of A-Levels in History, English Literature and Health and Social Care, I began my career in education through obtaining a degree in primary education, specialising in the arts and humanities. I took modules in research methodologies and completed lab reports which led on to my dissertation of a study on chronic fatigue syndrome/ME. My option modules included two clinical and two language based courses: eating disorders, psychology of intimacy, Level 2 European Spanish and Level 1 British Sign Language. Alongside my degree I was chosen for a Psychology internship within the department, completed my mental health first aid and volunteered as a bazaar mentor delivering a CBT based programme to students.

During my time at my current school, I have been able to work independently and as part of a team to create a balanced and broad curriculum that matches the needs of the children in my class. Furthermore, I have been able to teach effective units of writing that have been carefully sequenced and planned to ensure that the children have all of the skills they need to write an effective end of unit independent piece of writing. Throughout each unit, I am also able to adapt the sequence of lessons as the unit progresses to ensure that the children are fully confident in the grammar, structure and organisational features of the text before they write independently. To ensure that there is a wide coverage across the curriculum the children are exposed to a wide variety of writing types including: descriptions, poetry, story writing, letters and instructions. Each of these pieces of writing have started with a hook to capture the interest and curiosity of each child in the class.
I have also been able to plan alongside schemes that are in school and been able to plan a Maths curriculum independently for different year groups. At my current school, I have been able to work alongside the Power Maths and White Rose scheme. Through these schemes I have also been able to use my teacher's judgement and assessment for learning techniques to adapt and add to the schemes to ensure that each child is fully “fluent” in any given topic before moving onto problem solving and reasoning questions. Here it is important that the children have the necessary mathematical skills to challenge these problems but also have the ability to break problem questions down especially those that are “two steps and three www.*** ;
I have also been able to quickly build up professional relationships with both staff and parents. I strive to ensure that I work as an effective team member and continue to contribute exciting and fresh ideas to create a broad and engaging curriculum for all.
Previous to this I have worked in a number of different schools with a variety of backgrounds during my time on supply. An example of this would be teaching on a long term placement through supply placement. I was teaching in a mixed Y4/5 class at a school in Middlesbrough. The class was 100% EAL with a high proportion of SEN needs. Although it was a Y4/5 class, they were only working at aY1/2 level. Through the placement I have been able to demonstrate effective behaviour management strategies due to the fact that it was impossible to stick to one strategy. This required me to constantly adapt my strategies to the needs of the class on a regular basis. Furthermore, through quality first teaching, exciting and engaging lessons and an excellent understanding of each of the children’s needs I was able to make accelerated progress and work towards closing the gap from their KS1 trajectory to where they should be in terms of age related expectations. During my time at the school I was also able to work with a variety of external agencies in order to aid the provision of the children and ensure that each of their needs was being met.
