Hi, my name is Cara. I am currently a second year student at the University of Leeds studying a joint honours degree in Ancient History and History. I achieved high grades in all of my A Levels including an A* in English Literature. I am incredibly passionate about English and this passion makes me an ideal tutor in the subject. I have experience working alongside children in KS1 and KS2, volunteering in an after school club and supporting educational visits. I believe in creating a friendly and relaxed environment for students in order to maximise their potential. Teacher of English Language and Literature for 13 years
Whilst in secondary education, I was inspired by a maths teacher who took the time to understand the way my mind worked. He was the Head of Department, and I went to him looking for help. It was my most challenging subject, but he spent time outside of the classroom voluntarily tutoring me. I find it incredibly humbling that he was prepared to do this and that he has no idea of the impact he had on my life. The pass in Maths may have been my lowest grade, but it is the grade I am most proud of. It took effort and grit. It took long evenings after school, trying to understand why decimals even exist. And yet, it provided an essential gateway to so many opportunities. I hope to become that teacher. The teacher who engages students in a subject they might have prior negative feelings towards. The teacher who cares and puts in the extra effort for a student to do their best. My main aim during my teaching journey is to create life- long learners who will flourish in society, due to an innate sense of respect, care, and kindness towards others. My tutoring and teaching has always created an environment which will produce confident young people, who try their utmost in life to achieve and aspire to great things.
I have taught secondary English for over 5 years, with experience in both GCSE and A-Level English. This included 1:1 tuition with students from Year 7 - Year 13. I have experience of A-level coursework moderation, as well as being a coursework mentor for A-Level. I worked mainly with lower ability sets and my aim was always to help them exceed their target grades. This was always achieved through taking time to know the individual needs of every student, what makes them tick and what motivates them. My 1:1 tutoring has always been adapted to the individual and includes short term targets, as well as long term goals. My tutoring includes free extension materials and resources, for the student to complete beyond the session itself.
I have a home classroom set up, so am available to tutor online if more convenient for all. I worked throughout the pandemic, providing excellent live online working experiences. I am more than happy to travel to the student’s home if this is easier. I normally will include a quick ‘getting to know you’ session, where we will plan our expectations and targets. Parents will be able to see this plan also.

Hi, i’m Ethan, a friendly, approachable, fully qualified teacher with a vast amount of experience with tutoring children with additional needs. 📚 I have worked in a number of schools (both SEN and mainstream) across Sheffield as a www.*** teacher. This has enabled me to develop my teaching skill set and adapt my skills to a wide range of pupil needs. I have experience with a number of different additional needs, including ADHD, Autism and Dyslexia. I pride myself on adapting lessons to those with additional needs, who may struggle with learning in a classroom. I use a variety of different techniques and work by splitting up topics and teaching them in a way that is understandable and engaging. I work with a lot of past papers as I find the best way to study for an exam is to practice as much as possible looking at the actual exam. I'm a current college student, working in my second year now at college with exams coming up around Spring/Summer time. I'm taking English Language and Literature, Sociology and Business, achieving A and B level grades across all subjects. I'm very much confident in my English abilities,and always have been since I was younger, achieving top grades for my creative and analytical work. Previously, I did run an internal study group for my class in English at secondary - everybody I ended up tutoring graduated secondary school with 8's and 9's in English (equivalent to B's and A's). I am also very much a creative person, doing drawing and art in my free time, and therefore also understand the importance of taking a break. Sessions I teach will not be completely intensive, as I find students learn best when given some freedom.
As an aspiring English tutor, I'd hope to employ a unique teaching methodology that harnesses enthusiasm, and a laid-back approach to ensure that students not only learn, but also enjoy the process. I know I used to be quite rewards-motivated personally, and would use this with those I'm tutoring. My lessons would typically last between one to two hours, though I'm flexible depending on the student's and guardians' needs and preferences. With a solid academic background in English Language and Literature, I've consistently achieved As and Bs and graduated secondary school with a 9.

I’m looking into studying English as a foreign language (TESOL) at University and wanting to gain some experience in teaching before i start my degree. I haven’t always been an exam and book person but with the right teaching i found my own way.
