I am an enthusaistic educator who can offer highly personalised online tutoring. I am currently in my fourth year of teaching and my specialisms are English and media studies. I enjoy adapting my teaching and tutoring to match the pupil in front of me and to adjust my teaching style to suit the learner and can provide high quality tutoring particularly for those pupils preparing for GCSEs or the move up to A Level. I have experience in exam marking which I believe has helped me become proficient in what skills a pupil needs to hone these are transerfable to whichever phase of learning you are currently at. In terms of tutoring experience, I have taught students on a one to one basis with a variety of SEN, SEMH and general needs, including those who are home-schooled and have thus never entered a classroom. What's more, I am an approved tutor on the National Tutoring Programme and have worked for Pearson Edexcel on this scheme.
I can also help students, including graduates and adult learners, hone and develop their essay-writing skills. Furthermore, I can offer proofreading services to students of all ages.
With regards to exam preparation experience, I have knowledge of both the AQA and Edexcel specifications, having prepared Year 11 students for their GCSEs in English Language and English Literature. I am also an examiner for a well-known exam board and have marked both GCSE English Literature papers.
Currently, I am working as an English teacher at a Further Education college, where I teaching students who need to either re-take their GCSE English Language qualification, or study a Functional Skills course. Consequently, I am experienced in helping students develop the skills that they need in English from both an academic and practical viewpoint.
As the Head of English at my current school, I have been a fully qualified teacher for 8 years, successfully carrying multiple year groups through the new 9-1 English GCSE.
I have a comprehensive knowledge of the Literature texts, Macbeth, A Christmas Carol and An Inspector Calls, while also having a secure knowledge of the Power and Conflict Poetry Anthology. I also have extensive knowledge of the English Language qualification, and have orchestrated and run intervention on this particular aspect of the English GCSE for many years now.
I have attended AQA literature and Language seminars and conferences where I have gained invaluable insight into the examiners reports and feedback from previous exams; enabling me to provide consistently up-to-date advice and knowledge for the students that I teach.
I am available to tutor during the week from 5pm onwards (Tuesday - Friday).

I have been teaching English for 25 years to various age groups coming from various ethnic backgrounds and driven by various reasons: from primary kids to post-graduate students. I am very empathetic and student-oriented. I have taught General English, ESP (English for Specific Purposes), English Linguistics, GCSE, EFL, ESOL; I am also a Cambridge Speaking Examiner for YLE, KET, PET, FCE and CAE. Although for more than 15 years I was mainly and heavily involved in teaching various aspects of English at a university level, I never lost touch with the secondary teaching in a permanent effort to keep myself in the loop in terms of teaching methodology. Being motivated to achieve the highest possible standards in work and conduct, I have always placed the education of my students at the top of my list of priorities. I believe that proficiency cannot be achieved in the absence of a strong set of moral values accompanied by an equally strong subject knowledge.
My teaching philosophy relies on several pillars as follows: (i) identifying the needs of the students, (ii) designing a well-structured plan and (iii) constantly pushing their upper limits while closely monitoring their achievement so as, at the end, their knowledge and skills are solid and pertinent. When exploring the mechanism of the learning process, anyone who has been in this profession for a significant amount of time comes to realise the overwhelming importance of another factor besides setting high standards, promoting progress and demonstrating good subject knowledge, and this is the psychological one. One cannot adapt one's teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of one's students without taking into account their intellectual and emotional needs that are very frequently extremely different.
