Hello there,
Raising the academic attainment of students has been a deep passion and successful achievement - as a founding former headteacher of a school for 4- 16-year-olds (ten years), a teacher, and a tutor. I have recent English teaching experience at a school (and remotely), in addition to marking GCSE English Language and literature papers. Therefore I am at ease in teaching both key stages three and four students. Over a ten-year period, 98% of my tutees have gained entry into the elite Grammar Schools (a few students gaining scholarships each year too). During the last two years, 97% of my English Language tutees have achieved levels 7-9 in GCSE English Language and 96% in GCSE English Literature.
I am well resourced in teaching face to face or online. An initial consultation with parents, the tutee, in addition to a view of the school reports enables me to gather necessary information about each student. Importantly, the tutorials enable me to get first-hand knowledge of each student enabling me to plan my lessons for the individual.
I look forward to working with you to raise the attainment of your child.
Yasmin

I have been a qualified teacher since 2009 and taught in a variety of state and private schools in Kent, London, and Surrey. I graduated from the University of Cambridge with a 2:1 in Theology and Religious Studies and was awarded my MA in 2010.
I have worked as a private music (violin and piano) teacher since I was in the sixth form, and, since qualifying as a teacher , have tutored Philosophy, English Literature, and Religious Studies to a variety of students internationally (online) and in person (locally).
I have a baby daughter so cannot curretly offer tuition at my house but have lots of availability online outside of school hours or in school holiday time.
I have an excellent record of helping students to improve their understanding (and grades) in Philosophy/RS and English, and of seeing students through to Grade 8 on Piano and Violin, with Distinction.
My A Levels (all A grades) are in: English Literature (I also received a commendation from the exam board for attaining one of the top five scores in the country); Music; RS; Media Studies; General Studies.
I am a life Fellow of the Westminster Abbey Institute.
I have Grade VIII Distinction (ABRSM) on Violin and Piano.
I passed the National Professional Qualification for Senior Leaders in 2018.
My tutoring style is responsive to the needs of my student(s) but expect to be stretched and challenged!
Whether teaching you English, Music, or Philosophy, we will (in the words of Plato from the "Meno", "share the inquiry together")

I have recently graduated from the University of Birmingham with first-class honours, as well as the Richard Shackleton prize for best dissertation in the year. As a consequence, I have developed my essay writing techniques and structures to a level that is a very high standard. Within my tutoring sessions, I will be able to help to pass on the skills and techniques to my clients and make them feel comfortable and assured when facing a tricky question or concept.
Most importantly, however, history and English are subjects that need to be approached with curiosity and fascination. My sessions will approach various history and literature in a way that removes the perceived dustiness from History and English and will help the client to approach difficult concepts in an interpretive manner, which will help them to write clearer and more confident answers.
I am a current masters student and very flexible, I will be able to be accomodating for the student when they would like a tutoring session. Moreover, I will offer the first session free in order to see if the client enjoys and responds to the teaching. Flexibility and comfort are crucial.
I will be able to offer valuable essay and exam technique for clients in their GCSE or A-Level cycle- or just for students wishing to feel more confident. Fundamentally I will instruct how to break down a question, choose an appropriate structure, pick critical evidence and lay down quality and evaluative analysis. For clients looking to develop a wider interest in historical events, ideas and theories, I can use the experience and reading from my university years to teach these in a unique and exciting way. I firmly believe History to be dependent on curiosity and I would relish teaching it in this way.
For those looking for English lessons: I attained an A* in my GCSE, an A* overall in my A-Level (including full marks on my English coursework in year 13), as well as a first in a module on George Orwell in my final year that was very literature-based. I am more than capable of teaching a fascinating programme in both English and History and I look forward to doing so.

I have spent the last five years teaching English at a successful Surrey secondary school and really love my job. My classes are comprised of a range of abilities and I know how to support lower ability students as well as stretch and challenge the high-flyers.
Well-versed in great strategies for passing AQA GCSE English Literature and Language to a high standard, I offer private tutoring to year 9, 10 or 11 students studying for these particular exams.
i am happy to accommodate other exam boards, but this will take me more time and potentially cost extra.

I have been teaching English to 11-19 year olds in Secondary schools for 10 years; I am currently a middle leader in a local secondary school where I teach the full age range including GCSE and A Level classes. I also have 5 years experience of tutoring; I tend to specialise in GCSE preparation for English Literature and English Language, however I have also tutored Year 6 students prior to their English SATs and KS3 students who are looking to improve specific skills in reading and/or writing in advance of beginning their GCSE courses. I can help with homework, as well as focusing on specific skills or curriculum content. I am very familiar with the CIE IGCSE English Language; the AQA GCSE English Lit and English Lang syllabuses and the AQA English Literature A level syllabus, including the NEA component.
In the current climate I am offering 40 minute teaching sesisons via Zoom. Prior to starting sessions with any new student I offer a free 20 minute consultation to discuss the areas which a student would like to work on and improve in. Consultations can be done via phone or Zoom depending on the family's preference.
I am also able to offer a remote work marking service where I can give constructive feedback and summative grades as well if needed/appropriate (i. e. at GCSE/A level). Please contact me to discuss pricing for this.

Hello, I am Olivia D. and I am enthusiastic and passionate about my subject: English.
However, it was not always easy for me, in fact at high school I was not doing very well at English, I didn't seem to understand the way English was taught in schools and I required the head start of my teacher sitting down with me one-on-one and helping me to improve. My success in English is partly due to the support of exceptional teachers, who used creative new methods and suport to guide my learning which led to me achieving at A* English Literature A-Level, and a degree from one of the country's top universities.
Since developing a skill and love for English I have been lucky to work as a tutor, with highlights including leading English workshops at Explore Learning and taking creative writing workshops into schools. I am excited about English as a subject especially for harvesting young imaginations and I am determind that everyone can be an excellent English scholar, if given the correct support and that English can enrich any life whatever your natural abilities may be.
My love for English is part of everything I do, my ambition is to write plays, novels and anything else I can whilst my hobbies include writing, performing and reading. In my private life I have also helped many of my friends as well as my younger brother (now an Aerospace Engineering student) pass exams all the way up to A-Level.

I have completed my law degree from the University of Birmingham with a 2:1 (65%) and achieved a distinction on the LPC MSc in Law and Business Management. My degree was extremely challenging but it is also intellectually stimulating and broadened my outlook. With three years of experience tutoring English to students from years 5-11 and Maths to years 5-7, I have built a great rapport with my students. They are my mentees and I love being able to give them tips and hints regarding their future education and sharing my learning experience with them. My lessons consist of going over content, watching a video together regarding the lesson content and then completing questions together. I find that my students enjoy watching a video as it breaks up the lesson and makes it a more interactive experience. My lessons are very conversational, as I allow my students to articulate their thoughts, have fun whilst still being productive. My interests and hobbies consist of reading, photography, meditation and exercise.

As an A-level student, balancing continuous volunteering work, in various sectors such as tutoring and mentoring, with education has ensured that I have developed the skills of time management and organisation. Through undertaking a variety of volunteering opportunities; ambition, drive, passion, and perseverance have been amongst a variety of abilities that I have had to develop to ensure success. I hope to use my interpersonal skills to work alongside a team that prioritises the student’s satisfaction and their experience.
As a part of my Silver Duke of Edinburgh volunteering, I tutored students in the lower year of my school with the aim of improving their grades before they began the GCSE process. Many of these students were often easily distracted and prone to misbehaving during tutoring sessions, necessitating a great deal of persistence, perseverance, and patience to get round to the students and ensure that they were focused on their tasks. As I tutored while mentoring these students, I needed to be able to present the role of both an authoritative figure and a peer. The key to success was to maintain a fun and motivating learning environment.
