I am an English teacher and tutor, with over 15 years teaching and tutoring experience, particularly in preparing students for success in GCSE and A-level English Language and Literature. I have taught in 11-18 secondary schools, a sixth form college, an FE college and in independent schools, where I have coached IB and ESL learners. I am an A-level English Literature examiner, having taught both A-level English Literature and A-level English Language extensively.
Currently, all my tutoring is done online. I use Microsoft Teams, or Google Meet and Google Classroom to teach my students, depending on the learner's preference. These platforms enable us to chat face to face via video link and give me the ability to share my screen and whiteboard. On Google Classroom, I set homework or assignments, providing my students with feedback and additional resources they would not usually receive with a regular tutoring session. Each student will have their own login for Google Classroom and resources will be tailored and personal to them.
Many of my students work on developing their knowledge, skills and confidence for GCSE and A-level English Language and Literature. I also teach exam preparation and intensive revision sessions during exam periods. I plan short or long-term courses to meet with students’ needs.

I love learning and, equally, to inspire this feeling in others too. I also strongly believe that social development and creativity are as important as academic learning. If you are reading this, you must be considering getting help with learning of some sort, whether for you or for someone close to you. It would be a privilege to help!
I worked as a primary school teacher for 14 years and loved sharing the learning journey with the young people I taught. My approach is often playful – there is so much to be learnt using games and humour – and success relies on building relationships, agreeing goals and together working out how to reach them. Sometimes the goal might just be to travel forwards and enjoy the journey; at other times there may be a more specific target.
The best moments as a teacher are “the lightbulb moments” when something clicks in the learning and new connections are made. My goal is always to instil self-confidence in learners, to build positively on what they already know and can do, and to help them to believe that they can learn whatever they want to learn.
I am a qualified and experienced teacher. Although I have worked in secondary/ middle schools, the majority of my teaching has been in primary schools. I have worked in mainstream schools with a wide range of children. I have coordinated enrichment programmes for gifted and talented pupils. I have supported pupils preparing for grammar school exams. I have written and managed education plans for learners with dyslexia and dyscalculia, autistic spectrum conditions and other social, emotional and mental health difficulties.
As a class teacher, I taught across the spectrum of the National Curriculum, with particular focus on progress in Reading, Writing and Maths. As the school coordinator for the teaching and learning of English for many years, I rolled out various strategies to develop reading for pleasure and to make the learning of grammar and spelling fun, fun, fun! Prior to that, I enjoyed roles as the school lead on Science, History and DT. However, my guilty pleasure is a love of numbers, the application of Maths, in games and puzzles, and the Art of Maths.
I am a parent, the most important job/ experience in the whole world.
Prior to teaching, I was an architect. More recently, I have established myself as an artist, specialising in the publication of greeting cards and fine art prints.

I can improve and consolidate the learning of students - both children and adults - studying English, English Literature, English as an Additional Language and am competent with all levels, from children experiencing difficulties with grammar and spelling, through gifted and talented students who need extension tasks or preparation for formal exams, through to business English for adults. I support classroom or curricula topics and assignments; help with homework, projects, test preparation, papers, research and other academic tasks. I have a proven record of working with students to help them understand key concepts and which then help them to demonstrate these skills in assessments and examination. I inspire students of all ages to improve academic performance, including study strategies, note-taking skills and approaches to answering test questions. I will carry out assessments and practice tests to track progress, identify areas of improvement and help set goals for exam preparation. All previous tutees and their parents are extremely happy with the sessions and the results.
