True Self Coaching began as a yoga retreat business and has blossomed over the years into a consulting business which includes yoga classes and workshops, a signature meditation program, spiritual coaching, voice and art lessons, and original artwork. Hi! My names Lisa and I am an English and Drama/Theatre Studies Tutor. My qualifications are up to a Masters Level with 14 years of experience in live Touring, West End and Regional Theatre and Events,
I have been tutoring English to British and Foreign students for over 8 years, working with all age ranges in ESL, exam preparation for 11+, 8+ and in depth text analysis. I tailor the lesson to suit the needs of the student using the AQA, OCR, WJEC and Scottish curriculum for GCSE, A levels, National 5's and Scottish Higher's as well as helping degree students with their essays, personal statement, college applications and dissertations. I take a friendly approach, asking students to engage in critical analysis and conversation to build essay structures, giving my students ownership and enjoyment in their learning. I also have first hand experience of working on Drama texts and Backstage elements, with extensive experience on working on major productions nationally and internationally.

In the industry I have produced over 100 events in theatre across London and the United Kingdom. In film I have produced ten short films garnering numerous awards at over 100 festivals. Highlights include screening in Hollywood, at The Curzon Soho in London, and being hand picked for Danny Boyle's Shuffle Festival. Currently I am conducting research into pre-digital theatre texts with a view to developing digital adaptations for use in schools and universites. This is for my PhD at The Royal Birmimgham Conservatoire. I have extensive experience in tutoring both online and at home with excellent value added results for my students. With over 30 years of classroom, strategic, managerial, examination and assessment experience, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to tutoring your child/you. Tutoring is all about focusing the student on exactly what the question/task demands and demystifying the process, opening up possibilities and developing intellectual curiosity.
Before we start the tutoring, I carry out an audit of what knowledge and understanding of content there is, plus learning about the obstacles you face, what perceptions hold you back and generally finding out what kind of learner you are.
I will listen really carefully to what you need and will offer a plan to help you progress and move forward. Similarly, if I can't help, I will inform you of this too. It's really important that we get on.
Every student/learner is different; every backstory is unique. Many students have barriers; sometimes reassurance and pointing in the right direction will suffice.
Some years ago, I tutored a student on a Saturday morning. He was a bright and a very able science learner (straight As at GCSE) yet could not handle English or Literature and this was clearly holding him back (both his own self-esteem and his grades). It took a few weeks to instill a new way of apporaching the texts/writing, but once we applied a 'scientific approach' to analysis, it completely revolutinised his way of working. (He moved from a D to an A in four months of being with me, by the way!)
That was not a one-off. My recent tutoring has enabled me to accelerate learners way beyond what they thought they were capable of. Tutees are at the centre of the experince and it is all focused on them. I have an excellent interpersonal style, which is firm and fair, with a strong sense of agenda and coverage. We will go over things, revisiting to reinforce previous learning and to create the space where the tutee feels more independent and able to move forward without support. When a tutee says "I think I'm good from here!" I take that as a moment of great success!

I have been teaching Drama and telling stories to Primary age children for the past 12 years. In that time I have staged numerous musical productions that I have written and composed and can be found on my website - www.*** I believe that every child has an innate creativity that can be expressed through telling and performing stories and singing songs.
I trained for 3 years as an actor at Birmingham School of Speech & Drama ( now Royal Birmingham Conservatoire) and have worked in theatre, film and commercials. As an actor I've found out that the learning process that starts at drama school is something that never ends. There is something wonderful about that fact. Each new role opens up another little world of discovery!
Coaching drama school applicants is a particularly appealing thing. Having been one myself I'm so aware of how much there is to learn and how exciting it all is!
My approach is student-centred rather than method centred. There are many approaches to acting and there is definitely not one method that fits every actor.
Another thought is that I believe in teaching with positive reinforcement rather than criticism.
After the first lesson please pay the full amount in advance of any lesson you would like to arrange. If you had to cancel the lesson, if you were to do so four hours or more before the start I would refund the fee, but if were less than four hours beforehand I would not.
At the moment I solely teach online via Skype or Zoom.
If the internet connection prevented us from linking up for a lesson I would schedule another without further charge at a different and mutually agreed time.

Hello, My name is Abby, I am currently 23 years old and I currently work as a 1:1 LSA (DBS checked) in a mainstream primary school setting where I specialise with children with additional needs ranging from autism, ADHD, dyslexia and other needs. For the past year I have also been working as an English tutor and have predominantly worked with GCSE students and one primary school child. Again ranging in ability, from teenagers with strong abilites who just need a bit of a helping hand, to students with autism who are struggling at grasping thier subject. I am not a qualified teacher as I am traigning to be an acreditied counsellor. I strongly feel that this occupational ambition has really helped me in the field of education as all of the students that work with require more that just 'teaching' they require confidence and encouragement that they can ahieve their goals and they can excel in anything that put their mind to. Being the age I am aslo has its benefits as it's not that long since I was sitting all of my exams and remembering how stressful it all was! My teaching career began over two decades ago. I spent six happy years at the ArtsEd Drama School in Chiswick, where, rather serendipitously, I assumed the reins of responsibility from MY drama teacher! I worked for a further 15 years at a highly ambitious and educationally driven institution, Ibstock Place School in Roehampton. I still teach part-time at Ewell Castle School, near Epsom. I am a highly experienced practitioner of Drama. I have directed countless productions, small and large scale. I have Production Managed almost every single one, so good organisation and the requirement to be 'people-friendly' and an effective communicator, are skills I acquired quickly and retain today. Most of all, I am proud to say that former pupils have gone on to study at a host of vocational training institutions: RADA, Guildhall, Brit, London Contemporary and Laines, and are themselves now successfully working professionally as actors, singer, dancers and stage managers. Some have even gone on to play leading roles on Broadway, the West-End, the RSC, Regent's Park and film and TV. I have taught both GCSE and A-Level Drama with a proven track record of outstanding results, year on year. I know what exam boards require and what pitfalls to avoid. I understand different learning styles and appreciate that young people do not necessarily fall into the same learning mould. I am happy to accommodate everyone. I have examined Drama GCSE and Expressive Arts GCSE for AQA. I have worked extensively in the recording studio and on the radio. Until Covid hit last year, I was the Stage Door Keeper of the Noel Coward Theatre, working for Sir Cameron Mackintosh.
