Extremely experienced tutor, happy and fun learning style!
I have over Twenty years of experience teaching in one of the top schools in the country and have been teaching online classes for over three years. I am also a practicing artist and have shown my work globally. I love to teach art in an explorative, fun way and I will target lessons to get the very best work from you whatever your ability. I have knowledge of many exam boards as I was always trying to find the best one for my pupils when I was head of art! I have a wide range of art skills, my degree was in fine art ceramics, however I paint, draw and the artwork I exhibit is sculpture. I spent six years living in California where I experienced devastating wildfires - these have inspired my own artwork. All the work I make is of an environmental nature, I love giving unwanted materials new life. Although I am a qualified Secondary school teacher, I have also taught online primary level and adults! I sometimes visit schools to show them my work and story and we do big group projects. The important thing is we have fun whilst we learn - you need to love what you are doing! Please feel free to reach out and ask any questions.

I have now worked in education for approximately 10 years, starting off voluntary, then as an LSA, then as a teacher which has undoubtably helped achieve a better understanding of the education framework as well as the importance of all people in a child's life. During that time I have worked with children and young adults from 6 weeks to 18 years of age from many different backgrounds. This has enabled me to see where children start off, where they might be currently and where they need to get.
Having 4 children of my own has also helped with this, especially from a SEND/SEMH side due to 3 out of 4 of my own children needing additional help. My second eldest, now 17, was diagnosed with ADD before Covid which had some impact on her education, however her mental health had also suffered. This is something that thankfully she is now on the better side of and after being homeschooled by myself during COVID and the help of her school afterwards meant that she passed all of her GCSE's. My son, now 13, is dyslexic but is learning ways to ensure that this is not a barrier to his learning from help by myself. My youngest daughter, who is 10, has ADHD and is now finding ways to become more independent on a daily basis. I too myself have dyslexia which was not picked up until my teacher training as I have always found ways to overcome the struggles, however this has now given me the gift of being able to see and know the struggles that child with learning disabilities face along with a sympathetic ear to help children in their education.
Throughout my time in education I have worked 1-2-1, in groups and as a class (sometimes bigger). I have worked with school refusers, last chance students, students with SEMH, SEND and children who have EAL. I have worked with children who have been impulsive as well as those who have been unable to express their needs and wants, generally starting with picture cards, visual timetables, colourful semantics and zones of regulation. The list includes but is not limited to;
Children with EHCP's
ADD
ADHD
ASD
Down Syndrome
Cerebral Palsy
Speech and Language difficulties
Global delay
Dyscalculia
Dyslexia
EAL
Dyspraxia
Mild/Moderate/Severe learning difficulties
Tourette's
Various SEMH needs
Various medical disabilities
Mute/non-verbal
I currently already support two children who have both made significant progress, one of which is non verbal, has ASD, under the age of 6 and been delivered via Zoom duE to distance. I moved up TO Lincolnshire in August from down South, and have been trying to find my feet as to which area of education I would like to work in after being a full time primary school teacher, which I loved, however children with additional needs has always been where my heart lies. I have a passion for working with children that need additional help in a mainstream setting where help is not routinely available. Whilst I have some experience of working in a special setting school, my view has always been that children in a special setting school have met a criteria to enable them to have the extra help, however, there are so many children that are missed or unable to have the help that is needed in mainstream school that will unfortunately, in many circumstances, end up without an education due to not 'fitting' a criteria. It is these children, along with those waiting for a placement in a special needs setting, or those children who 'refuse' to work that I feel my heart lies with and where I belong teaching.
I have always prided myself on gaining and maintaining fantastic professional relationships with both students and parents/carers/LSA's in every setting that I have worked in, knowing that the child's views and thoughts are paramount. I take great pride in knowing that all children that I have worked with whether as a class, group or individual have all made progress, no child has ever stopped flourishing whilst under my watchful eye. I always ensure that I build a good professional relationship with the child first which has undoubtably led to the great outcomes, attendance and behaviour of students that I pride myself with.
Sorry, currently unavailable to teach from my home address unless remote.

As an ambassador for education and diversity, I am proud to offer over five years of teaching experience, with my pedagogy and teaching being recently recognised by Ofsted as outstanding. During this time, I have been responsible for curriculum leadership and developing stimulating and academically enriching lessons through effective pedagogical practice; supporting a diverse cohort of children from all backgrounds. Furthermore, I have had experience in aligning evidence-based research with pedagogical practice to contribute towards the design and development of Cambridge Assessment International Education’s international curriculum which is taught within schools across 160 countries and 9 regions.
As well as educating young people within education, I have also had experience in training teachers; leading face-to-face CPD training workshops to support teachers by bridging the gap between practice and research and in turn, effectively supporting students both holistically and academically within schools and the wider community. My approach to teaching is to inject the element of creativity and fun. It is imperative that we enjoy the things that we do, including education. I love creating an immersive learning experience which utilises extra-curricular tools to support cognitive, academic and holistic development. For me, as a certified life coach and educator, I believe in creating a safe space where each child can thrive and develop a sense of self-confidence whilst gaining a foundation of skills to support them both in school and out.

I am a practising artist with 18 years’ teaching experience (15 years as Head/Director of art) I can support all pupils and adult learners at any level. I currently work as Director of Faculty in one of the UK’s leading Independent Boarding Schools. (Fine art was the best performing subject in my school at A Level Summer 2019.)
Those wishing to make the next step into Further or Higher education will benefit from additional support to enrich their body of work for portfolio interview. I work with GCSE and A Level pupils to help improve their coursework.
Or perhaps you’ve always wanted to improve your drawing or painting skills simply for pleasure and to learn the rudiments of direct observational study; life drawing has been a mainstay for as long as I can remember, and hundreds of younger learners and senior artists have benefitted from private tuition since I started teaching.
The discipline of drawing and art practice in general, rewards individuals with the sanctuary of mindfulness in addition to the benefit of skill-based progress
I can teach across all media to groups or individuals – even demonstrate how to throw a pot! – I am happy to receive bespoke enquiries.
"Stuart is a great teacher, he always makes every class interesting & different each week, inspired us by using various materials & techniques in different ways stretching our www.*** is always positive with his criticism which encouraged you to produce some great works, this makes the classes enjoyable discussing our work together, feeling the group were a team.
His interest & encouragement has inspired me to continue with life drawing. "
Anita Page
"If I have any regret of my time being tutored by Stuart it is that I only joined his group a year before he moved away from Bury St Edmunds yet even in that short time with his remarkable skills as a teacher I found my drawing skills generally; and figure drawing skills in particular; improved considerably. Because of his instruction and guidance and the foundation it gave me my art has developed and evolved to embrace most media and other genre. I will always be grateful to him."
Paul Lewins
"Stuart manages to bring variety in his approach to classes. Some weeks he positions tables propped upright on their ends and we work in various media on paper the full size of the model. Sometimes we draw a model who moves in various ways in rotation. Our still life evenings are also different, he brings in a pigs head for us to draw, and also a brace of pheasants. Stuart is always very encouraging. He covers all the basics in teaching us how to measure the body by eye, by aligning different parts of the body, and demonstrates different media techniques. "
Caroline Bell
"Stuart came with enthusiasm and willingness to share his skills. Within the group hw was able to bring out individual artistic talents. He gave us confidence to attempt many different techniques.
My art abilities are definitely built on groundings set by him"
