During my role as a Main Grade Lecturer I have assisted in the delivery of suitable teaching content to students in an effective way; on occasions supervised by teaching staff and assistant/head of school.
This was multiple Access and Pre-Access courses including Business, Allied Health Professions: Professional Healthcare Practice, Time Management, Psychology, Criminology, Sociology, Mental Health, Developing Self and Research related curriculum areas. My main roles and responsibilities as an initial trainee teacher were teaching level 3 business to Access to Higher Education students. Although now I am quite versatile and can teach different subjects at different levels.
Within this role I have also voluntarily taken on a pastoral/support role, engaging students who have previously been resistant to education, or faced barriers to their education, who have since regained the foundations to complete their studies with the suggested opportunity to progress into Higher Education.
I have also continued learning while teaching, completing 46 hours CPD, and I am currently enrolled on a Level 2 Counselling Skills course at the college. Hoping to progress in the future to Level 4 counselling capabilities.
I proposed during my PGCE about building links with the community and the business students and I would hope to plan, propose, and hopefully build on these links.
During my time as a lecturer, I have planned enrichment activities at Edge Hill University, aiming to provide effective and stimulating opportunities for all students involved.
I have found inclusion, equality, and diversity to be a key issue and I have been actively building on my knowledge and throughout my resource planning, I have made this a priority for effective teaching within access and pre-access. I have been and will always maintain an ethos that is focused on high quality teaching, learning and assessment for all students.
During my time at The City of Liverpool College I have made every effort to contribute to the organisation in a positive way, editing and creating effective and stimulating teaching practice in my own, and other curriculum areas.
Baring in mind the strategic objectives of each department, and the students within. I am a keen reader around not only my subject specialist area, but the other subject areas I have taught this year, focusing on the issues that may impact teaching in those subjects specifically.
I routinely update my knowledge, with an aim to update my skills on a regular basis. During my role and supervised at times by assistant, deputy, and head of school, I have effectively planned, prepared, and delivered high quality content, furthermore lessons, achieving effective classroom management, and strategic teaching goals. I have utilised a range of effective and appropriate teaching and learning methods to engage and motivate students, encouraging independence and student autonomy.
I have helped to establish and maintain a purposeful and motivating virtual, and physical learning environment during covid-19 and beyond. Helping previously disengaged students feel safe, secure, confident, and valued within teaching, pastoral, and support roles. I have aimed to establish and maintain correct and proper procedures with students which promote and maintain appropriate behaviour, communication, and respect for others, while challenging discriminatory behaviour and attitudes.
I have set and ‘marked’ work that is in accordance with assessment policies, although introducing alternative forms of mini assessment with efficacy personally during my own taught session material.
Using reflective practice, innovation, and creativity. I have assisted the access team, and mentors track student progress and attendance in accordance with agreed systems and policies, furthermore, provided a balance of appropriate teaching styles and learning experiences. I have aimed to make myself aware of external/internal assessment procedures and I have played a key and appropriate part in their implementation.
I have always evaluated and aimed to improve my own communication skills, looking to maximise effective communication, and overcome barriers with any member of the organisation I am in.
I have liaised with the Deputy Head of School in contributing to the design of programmes and teaching approaches for disengaged students achieving high standards and value added to the department. I am aiming to improve my knowledge with future experience to be able to better identify and address additional student English and Maths skills development in my subject area.
I have always evaluated my own professional development needs in and on action aiming to participate fully in current and future training and development opportunities. During my hours as a trainee and a main grade lecturer, have ensured that all students in the subject area and beyond have complied with policies and procedures, while providing enrichment opportunities that are exciting, motivating and enhance the student experience. I have engaged in outside activities with staff and had very positive results, contributing to the successful implementation of the mission and values statement of the organisation. Ensuring effective implementation in all aspects of college life for students and staff.
I have taken a proactive approach towards accountability and responsibility for personal professional development, Health & Safety, and meeting other regulatory compliances, enabling safe and professional working practices to be observed at all times, supporting curricular and extracurricular activities as required.
I am educated to bachelor (with honours) degree level in Business and Management, Leisure, and Tourism. I have passed my PGCE, alongside 170+ hours vocational experience and lecturing experience from October 2021 until the current day. I am also a member of the Chartered College of Teaching and can use the nominal letters MCCT. I believe my qualifications are relevant to the subject areas of the role. I have the ability to use the current IT programs of the College with efficacy, and proven relevant experience of curriculum planning, development & delivery in business, and professional healthcare practice at access level, and health and social care at pre-access level. With experience of assessing students’ needs and planning curriculum for their benefit during covid 19 and beyond.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
