I specialise in getting pupils to understand why Mathematics works the way it does. Not just knowing what to do, but knowing why you do it.
This is critical in the new style of exams, as otherwise it is quite difficult to achieve your targets.
My lessons are usually a discussion between myself and the tutee. Working through higher level problems once the base understanding is concrete.
Pupils are always encouraged to ask questions about Mathematics in general so that their understanding is at the highest possible level.
I started tutoring professionally during the first COVID lockdown in England, since then I have taught groups of 30, but mostly 1-on-1 sessions, ranging from KS2 SATS preparation all the way up to A Level Further Maths with a student aiming to apply to Cambridge Univeristy for Mathematics.
I love seeing that moment of realisation, that Eureka moment, when the topic just clicks for the student. Seeing the progress pupils make during their sessions, as well as over time is just an amazing feeling.

These days, anyone who hears me say, "I love maths" thinks I've always loved maths but that's far from the truth. I struggled with maths and even failed my GCE in maths ( an equivalent of GCSE).
So many teachers tried teaching me but I just could not grasp the concepts because they used the same methods I struggled with at school and never worked on finding out what the cracks were in my knowledge. A house built on a faulty foundation cannot stand the test of time.
One day I met the greatest teacher in the world, in my opinion, because not only was he able to teach me maths but he made me love maths. The quote above pretty much sums up how he taught me. He started from the basics, no assumptions made and he used all sorts of new methods to teach me. He showed me that there were so many ways to learn any topic.
I retook my GCE in maths and got the highest grade possible, won an award in maths, studied engineering, taught other students that were tagged "hopeless in maths" and got my daughter ready for her GCSE in maths at a very young age.
It doesn't matter how 'bad' any one is at maths, if they have a desire to learn and time, I can teach them. I am not just any other maths tutor. I am one that produces results.

I am an Honours graduate in Applied Physics from the University of Strathclyde. I taught Mathematics to children from ages 12 to 18 for 26 years, and have successfully prepared many classes for public examinations at National 5, Higher, Advanced Higher (Mathematics and Mechanics) and A-Level. Hello and welcome to my tutoring profile. To give context, I was a Teaching Assistant for 15 years and worked across all areas of primary levels from Nursery up to year 6. I finished my career being the leading Teaching Assistant in neurodiverse children as I have a passion for all children to have the education they deserve.
