Profile My name is Zoë and I am currently 18 and on my gap year with the intent to start university in September, where I will study a course centered around Anthropology, politics and various cultural studies. So far this year I have held the position of pre-nursery and K1 teacher at an international kindergarten in Hong Kong, travelled through the Philippines and have become certified a TEFL tutor; before my gap year is over I am aiming to do some more traveling, gain more qualifications and secure an internship.
Experience (Kindergarten teacher) Pre- Nursery and k1 teacher at sunshine house international, Tung Chung, Hong Kong, august 2023 - December 2023 This position required me to write lesson plans weeks in advance, coordinate meetings with both parents and fellow teachers and strictly follow a curriculum which I taught to my class of 10 2-3 year olds on a daily basis. More importantly this role forced me to be compassionate and patient, it allowed my to be creative and energetic and it has shown me how to be increasingly empathetic and understanding when explaining or communicating. waitressing at the Sweeney hall hotel, 6months Bar, barista, room and table service, house keeping, basic hospitality and customer service training for restaurant, hotel and events. summer internship/ work experience with KOOKIE magazine 2022 Internship with 'tweens' magazine KOOKIE allowed me to understand the pressures of selecting, approving and writing content for an audience that could be directly affected by my words. Being a part of an organization built by two strong women, that is centered around educating and captivating children between the ages of 8-12+ with positive and empowering content has truly influenced my perception of both journalism and the ways in which I communicate and teach those around me when in leadership positions. Cover girl for KOOKIE magazine, second edition 2017
Charitable modeling campaign for Burberry, Supporting northern schools in the uk Model for Avanti west trains, media campaign, 2022 Summers of 2018/19/20/21 working on Manford agricultural farm, harvesting and generally ground work (Shropshire, UK)
Bronze, silver and gold duke of Edinburgh awards From these three qualifications I have learnt essential skills, for example, orientation and navigation using both traditional ordnance survey maps (OSM) and military grade gps equipment, plotting treks and hikes that rage from 6-18km, basic bush craft and practical camping experience; as well as learning to rely on my own dependability and capabilities as a team member and leader. 2023 flooglebinder sustainability and conservation course for young geographers and biologists, Iceland
120-hour Virtual TEFL course - Combined: 2 days classroom Sat-Sun + 100-hours online, 10/01/2024
2022 CCF Army winter mountaineering camp, Dundonald, Scotland Relying on the skills and experience gained from Duke of Edinburgh expeditions and Army camps and training, I was equipped with the ground knowledge required to safely begin a basic mountaineering course. However, due to extreme weather conditions and the surrounding environment licensed professionals were required to to train all participants in navigation (map and compass skills, navigating through a snow storm, rock navigation etc), basic rock climbing techniques (how to leverage your weight, use a harness, how and where to place your feet and properly climb and down climb) avalanche safety and companion rescue, packing for an expedition, Wilderness First Responder or Wilderness First Aid, the ways in which equipment like ice axes and crampons must be correctly used and snow-holing. All entirely new and daunting challenges that have taught me to carefully listen to instructions while also forcing me think on my feet and calculate a plan in unexpected situations. Active member of the CCF army company at Ellesmere college- Cadet colour Sargent , NCO The five years of acting as a cadet has been one of my most treasured experiences of high school. Weekly 3hr long sessions along side multiple expeditions/ camps per semester have equipped me for the the hard work, determination and commitment required in all walks of life. In addition, in 2020 I was promoted to the leadership position of NCO meaning I acted as a www.*** and ‘coach’ to pupils from all age groups, as well as holding assembly’s in which I would be presenting to a wide variety of audiences on many occasion; all experiences that have contributed to the mindset and attitude I bring into the workplace.
