I graduated from the University of Sheffield with a 2. 1 degree in sociology and social policy. After working for 2 years as a family support worker for a child protection team, I completed a masters in Social Work. My 2 placements were working for the charity Mind, un a support capacity, the second placements was in a residential family assessment unit. After graduation I worked for 2 years as a child protection Social Worker in a deprived area. I moved to Cumbria in 2008 and started work as a Social Worker for a fostering team, specialising in kinship care assessments. I gained a level 2 practice education award, which enabled me to be a practice educator for students on placement in my organisation. I enjoyed working with students so much that I decided to work as a lecturer in Social Work at the University of Cumbria. I gained my PgC within a year of starting this employment. I can teach all areas of social work. My specialisms are sociology, child and adult safeguarding law and practice, contemporary issues, global issues, mulit-agency anti-opressive and anti-discriminatiotory practice and delocolonising higher education. I have also taught on the Health and Social Care Course, teaching duty of care principles and practice. With 9 years experience in teaching students I have developed creative and stimulating ways of working. I can teach effectively on-line from experience of this during the pandemic. I encourage debate in my teaching and questioning ideas and dilemmas. I offer a safe and inclusive ways of teaching. |
