As a university student myself, I understand how overwhelming it can be to keep up with a large amount of content. I use a results-driven method focused on topic-based learning and exam-style application. This approach helps me monitor how much is being understood and identify which topics are stronger or weaker, allowing us to focus more on areas that need improvement rather than revisiting what is already well understood. Exam practice enables students to achieve top-end marks, as the difference between an A* and a B often comes down to the ability to apply knowledge to unseen contexts. By practicing past papers, students learn to spot relevant knowledge and understand how it appears in different exam scenarios.
I aim to create a supportive and approachable environment, where my main priority is ensuring students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. This builds their confidence and independence so they are fully prepared when facing exams. Before we begin, I work with each student to create a structured plan so they feel prepared, in control and motivated.
To make learning more memorable and less stressful, I incorporate scientifically backed techniques such as active recall, spaced repetition, and the Pomodoro technique. I have experience tutoring both English and Maths, and I’ve helped students make significant improvements in their grades.
I began tutoring six years ago during my own GCSEs, having taken Maths and English a year early and achieving A*s in both. My first student was from another college, and from that point, I developed a passion for teaching. Since then, I’ve tutored a wide range of students, helping many GCSE pupils improve by 2 to 3 grade levels. I also have experience teaching primary school students and have worked in a primary school setting, gaining valuable insight into early education and classroom support. |
