Before I started as a teacher in school, I had worked for many years as a tutor, concentrating on Gcse and A level History for a wide range of different exam boards. Since 2001 I have taught history in all years from 7 to 13 in an independent school and have gained extensive experience of preparing pupils for exams as well as stimulating their interest in the subjects taught. I always aim to stretch them as well as support them in their learning and to promote enjoyment of the learning process while pushing for the highest possible level of attainment. With many years helping to provide pastoral support as a sixth form tutor, I have gained valuable experience in addressing the needs and problems faced by young people facing some of the biggest challenges of their lives. I have also given help preparing for university applications and have provided interview practice, including for Oxbridge applications. Together with this, I have supervised ambitious sixth formers as they navigate the demands of EPQs. Finally, as a practicing artist with extensive knowledge of art and the context in which it is produced, I have taught the history of art for many years while encompassing the study of painting, sculpture, prints and architecture from many different epochs and locations, |
