I have just finished my A levels and tutoring at Yipiyap, a role which involved acting as a maths teaching assistant in a high school, and teaching GCSE maths online through running small group sessions. I achieved A*s in A level maths, biology, philosophy and EPQ, and I'm currently teaching myself A level further maths, hence my enthusiasm. At GCSE, I achieved grade 9s in maths, biology, chemistry, physics (and English literature), and an A (best grade) in additional maths- which I can also tutor in. I have 2 years peer mentoring experience for which I earned an award: "You were given the award because you worked with several very vulnerable students for significant amounts of time, helping them to adjust more easily to life in a large secondary school. You were also very helpful with some students who were quite challenging during the sessions, all of which you dealt with sensitively and compassionately when you met them. Your commitment to the programme was impressive as you worked with students during Year 12 and Year 13 and were always reliable so that students never had to be turned away."
I successfully prepared my brother for his 11+ exams, as he got into Sale Grammar and Manchester Grammar. I also have a year's experience in helping a group of year 11 boys with their GCSE maths, for which I got very positive feedback from my teacher.
My teaching style is informal and exam based; I believe developing rapport is crucial, and getting students to think through the problem themselves is vital.
Having recently finished Sixth Form, I have a great knowledge of the GCSE and A level specifications and an ability to tackle them from a student's perspective, and, crucially, I can relate to my students and their struggles with maths. This position, coupled with a conscientious and friendly nature is why I believe I am a great tutor. |
