I currently work for a University in Scotland. My specialty and particular areas of interest are care of the older person, infection prevention and control and mental health issues, especially dementia.
As well as a tutor role, I facilitate personal pastoral and academic guidance to, BA Health Studies HNC and HND Care and Administration Practice (1st and 2nd year university) and Access to nursing groups. I also liaise with partner universities to support current students into articulation into 2nd and 3rd year at university. As a GTCS registered teacher, I also support and supervise lecturers undertaking postgraduate studies and I have mentored new staff members in the study for their teaching qualification.
Formal appraisal and feedback from colleagues, managers, and students indicate my passion for facilitating excellence in nursing practice. In an enthusiastic manner and using a range of learning, teaching, and assessment strategies, I deliver interesting interactive lessons in line with quality assurance standards. Feedback from colleagues and management also note that my oral, written, and IT skills are excellent. Hence, the student learning experience is enhanced by promoting a virtual learning environment using Turnitin and other appropriate strategies. I assist the students with UCAS applications and provide references and details of attendance and attributes.
As a professional Lecturer and a fellow of the Higher Education Academy committed to excellence in learning and teaching, the student is placed at the centre of academic activity.

As I have quite a bit of experience in industrial software engineering, I've helped many of my (younger) peers at the University of St Andrews during our MSc course.
Probably the best way to teach programming / computer science is through examples. Many, many examples.

Here are some people's comments on my lessons.
"My daughter loves her guitar lessons with Mikey and is now progressing well with Nat 5 Music. His relaxed vibe, patience and humour makes lessons fun and inspiring. We would highly recommend him."
We’ve loved having Mikey as our guitar teacher for over 4 years now.
He’s patient, knowledgeable, flexible and very easy going - even our dog loves it when he comes :-)
He’s currently teaching one of our 16 year old boys (since age 12)and has helped him with everything from Ed Sheeran to Jimmy Hendrix to a bit of Bach (the latter for a school assignment).
We would definitely recommend him 👍

During these unprecedented times it is clear that education has been affected. As a tutor I aim to help pupils recover some of this lost time.
For secondary school students I can tutor english, geography, history, maths, environmental science, biology, and chemistry. This can include aspects specific to your school curriculum, for example english texts/poems your school teaches or chemistry topics you have struggled with and seek to improve.
For students about to start university I can help with university preparation. This would take the form of reviewing essays and essay writing techniques. From personal experience, the expectation for university work was significantly higher than secondary school. This development of your skills will help to make this transition easier and be reflected in your grades.
My previous experience tutoring ranged from helping a class A student reach full marks in chemistry, to a student attaining 10% in geography class tests improving to 50% after one month.
Our meetings can be altered to fit a student’s needs, simply let me know what you would like help with. Class work, exam preparation, homework and coursework help are all possible.
Please contact for any further information you may need.
