I have 5+ years of experience living and travelling in Spanish speaking countries, and as such have a profound knowledge of the introcacies of the Spanish language, both the type spoken in Spain, and also the many types spoken all over Latin America.
Having studied Spanish myself at 3rd level and taught it so much, I have a deep knowledge of the workings of the language, it's verbs, it's grammar and how to best use the language to achieve the particular goals that you would like to achieve.
My lessons are fun and hugely varied, depending on your learning goals. I can tailor lessons specifically to greatly improve your speaking ability and fluency, or focus on the development of a deeper understanding on how Spanish grammar works, how to best use different grammar points, or how to best use verbs with certain grammar to best convey a point.
I have a significant amount of experience living, studying and working in Spanish spanning multiple industries and countries, meaning that I have vast knowledge on the differences between more "casual" Spanish and more "formal" Spanish, being able to provide useful lessons and examples of both, and when to use both best, depending on your learning objectives.
I have been to and spent time in most countries within the Spanish-speaking world, and the breadth of my knowledge relating to the Spanish language sets me apart from other teachers - if there is a particular country you will go to, or particular specifics of a Spanish dialect spoken in Latin America or the Carribean that you would like to explore and learn more about, I can also cater tailor-made lessons to further your knowledge in this niche area of the language.

I am a well qualified and experienced teacher of Modern Foreign & Classical Languages with over 30 years experience teaching in local State and Independent Schools and in adult and further education colleges. I have taught French, German, Spanish, Italian, Classics and Latin from Key Stage 3 through to A- Level and am a GCSE examiner for the Pearson Edexcel exam board. I am a Member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists.
In my lessons, my goal is to teach you, with fun, humour and encouragement, how to use language confidently in listening, speaking, reading and writing and of course backing this up with a very sound knowledge of those building blocks called grammar. In Latin, the grammar based language study is backed up with a fun and detailed look at the historical period and the set texts. We all have differing learning needs and goals which are worked out well in advance of the first lesson so that the approach is tailor made for you so that you ultimately find the learning experience a rewarding and enjoyable one. When teaching , I use my experience of being an examiner to show you what the exam paper is really asking for and how you can ensure you get the marks and ,quite easily, exceed target. For nearly 10 years, I have been working both as a private tutor and a schoolteacher, teaching predominantly Spanish and English to students of all ages and abilities in person and online. I come from a trilingual family and have spoken Spanish, Portuguese and English since childhood. I studied languages as part of my undergraduate degree at the University of Leeds, obtaining a first class BA in History with Spanish and Portuguese.
After a decade working in law, I returned to my language roots and qualified as a languages teacher in 2018. I taught Spanish for three years to London secondary school students, focusing on GCSE and A Level exam preparation. I also worked additionally as a Portuguese GCSE speaking examiner during exam season, something which I continue to do today. In 2021, I finally decided to focus full-time on my private tutoring career as a Spanish and Portuguese language tutor.

I am friendly, approachable and enjoy making learning meaningful for pupils. My lessons begin with starting activities to recap the previous learning, identify any misconceptions. Moving onto the main part of the lesson I plan activities promoting fluency in the skill then application to a real-life situation or worded exam-style question. Games and quizzes can be fun and useful in testing rapid recall.

I have always been passionate about learning and especially found that learning through objects was a pssion of mine. READING, WRITING AND LISTENING AND SPEAKING
These courses are designed to meet the standards of the GCSE Spanish reading, writing, listening and the three parts of the speaking exam using role-play, photo card and general conversation.
We prepare students for the exam and develop essential techniques while at the same time reviewing all content of the GCSE Spanish course.
Students improve their written Spanish in a variety of situations and we have special activities to improve listening skills and confidence.
We also offer a wide range of tips and strategies to lower stress levels and make the learning process fun.
MOCK EXAM PREPARATION COURSES
This course strengthens students’ competence in the four core skills (speaking, reading, writing and listening) and develops the techniques and knowledge required in these tests.
Students can review the complete exam content, familiarise with the style of questions and requirements and receive tips, advice and information on examination technique.
Harriet lived in Spain on the Costa Blanca for sixteen years where she grew up speaking the Spanish language with fluency. During this time Harriet taught at an International Language School in Spain and decided to return to the UK, where she was educated at Rugby School and then went on to obtain her degree in Spanish at the University of Chester.

I am a self employed qualified language tutor bringing up a bilingual child. I adore languages and feel that in todays world they are of exceptional importance. I hold a BA Joint Hons in Spanish and American Studies and a Delf B2 in French in addition to a PGCE Cert/Ed.
