About Psychology

Put in simple words, psychology is the study of the human mind, brain and behaviour. It is a very broad field and it covers aspects like feelings, mental health and disorders, emotion, different personalities and trauma. The end goal is to understand the behaviours of individuals.

Psychology is a complicated field of study and it consists of four goals. The first one is describing the behaviour of the individual. This consists of careful observation. The second goal is trying to predict behaviour. Based on observations and previously collected data, psychologists try to determine the likelihood of a certain behaviour happening. After that comes explaining. The goal here is trying to explain why a certain occurrence happened. The last goal is trying to change behaviour. The aim is to promote healthier behaviours while at the same time decrease unhealthy behaviours.

Why should I study Psychology?

Psychology definitely isn’t for everyone, but at the same time if it’s something you’re interested in, it can be incredibly fascinating. It will give you a different perspective on life, you’ll learn to understand how individuals think, act and feel. During your studies you’ll encounter different behaviours and you’ll have to try and understand and analyse them.

Not only will this improve your understanding of people, but you might see changes in yourself as well. By seeing how different people act and finding out why they make certain decisions, you’ll start seeing things in a different light. By gaining a better overall understanding of the human mind, many psychology students become better communicators themselves.

If you’re still not convinced by now, psychology also gives you good future career paths. The amount of different sectors in which you can work with a psychology degree might surprise you. If you gain strong communication and research skills during your studies, you’ll be able to work in various positions in marketing, HR, management, sports, healthcare and more!
