Having studied the health and fitness industry in standard settings like gyms and diet programmes, I quickly came to understand that most of the time they don't work; the gym environment is intimidating and not always conducive to regular exercise - it can be very one-dimensional.
Most "diets" are short-term measures that often do more harm than good to people's emotional relationship with food and themselves.
Both are founded on the assumption that people will fail: gyms couldn't cope if even a reasonable percentage of their membership exercised several times per week and most of the popular diet groups rely upon yo-yo dieters repeat business.
This culture - plus now the influence of the internet and social media - fuels people's idea of "health and fitness" being very narrow, usually relating it purely to weight and body shape, rather than overall wellbeing.
I soon knew I wanted to build something different - a business where health and fitness was embraced as a wider concept; as a catalyst for self improvement and transformation in all areas of life rather than an end point in itself.
When I founded Motus Training, I started out by working with individuals and found myself empathising with their struggles over weight fluctuations, burnout and the demands of balancing work and home life, thanks to my own personal experiences. Many of our clients are successful business owners or senior figures in large companies who in the past have struggled to understand that health and wellbeing is not a sacrifice but an investment that can positively impact every area of their lives.
This is one of the reasons that over time our service has grown and evolved to encompass what we would now describe as "lifestyle coaching" rather than "personal training", "strength training" or "nutritional advice". It's my belief that to separate out these different disciplines means losing their combined potential; together they are more than the sum of their parts.
Motus now represents a new paradigm in health/lifestyle coaching where as much (or more) focus is placed on the habits and routines which underpin how we live our lives and look after every aspect of our health. We have also come to realise that providing information alone is not enough. We all have access to seemingly infinite amounts of information but what we require is the knowledge to filter what is relevant to us, strategies for how to actually apply this (which can vary significantly from person to person), and finally support in cementing these changes into something long-lasting.
These are some of the values and principles Motus lives by and we are now building a team of professionals to deliver our message and "Inspire Lifestyle Transformation".
We now also work with businesses to replicate this positive impact on a much greater scale and help them create a culture where health and wellbeing is a crucial part, harness everyone's potential, optimise performance and protect against the personal and organisational risks of stress, poor mental health and long-term health issues.

From a young age, I was an active person and regularly played sports - mainly football, tennis and golf. A persistent knee injury slowed me down, and by the age of 18, I was 6ft 3, very skinny and desperate for a new hobby. I decided to get in the gym and start trying to put some muscle on my frame. My real passion for fitness and bodybuilding started then. I guess like most people, it was daunting stepping into a gym for the first time and seeing many experienced people with great physiques. I had no real knowledge of bodybuilding or what it was going to take to build muscle. The one thing I did have on my side was that I had developed some healthy eating habits due to my mum having some heart issues a few years earlier. I believe this is what gave me an early interest in Nutrition, which then developed greatly over the years.
Now, after many years of practice, mistakes, injuries and study, I have made great progress with my physique and fitness. Studying, coaching and developing new habits is what has got me to a point in life where I can make informed decisions that allow me to lead a well-balanced lifestyle.
It's now my passion to help and educate you to achieve your fitness goals quickly, injury-free and in a way that does not stop you enjoying your current lifestyle. My job as your coach is to cut through all the noise and confusion in the fitness and nutrition industry, saving you potentially years of poor results and guiding you on your fitness journey. I use real, evidence-based information from scientific and real-world studies - no gimmicks, fads or celebrity-endorsed quick-fixes. I put many hours into researching this stuff so that you don't have www.*** ;

Hello, my name is Megan and I am the founder of Mind Over Matter Fitness and Nutrition. My main role is currently as a personal trainer; however, my original training is as a nutritionist. I graduated in 2006, from Oxford Brookes University with a 1st class honours in Food Science and Nutrition. I have always had a passion for nutrition, but initial more as a chef, working in a small restaurant for 4 years. I graduated and worked for 6 years in the research field, specialising in Glycaemic Index, Insulinemic Index and Weight Loss. My experiences in research enable me to provide my clients with up-to-date and reliable scientific advice which is proven to work.
Although I have always been an active person I have never been someone that has ever been 'sporty'. I hated PE at school and would do anything to get out of it!! My interest in physical activity and exercise started approximately 17 years ago when my mum was diagnosed with osteoporosis, as such she was told to undertake weight bearing activity. So, in support mum I took up running. I can honestly say that for the first 3 weeks I hated it, I moaned constantly and dreaded every session. Suddenly week 4 seemed easier and I could start to see changes in my body shape, I think this was the moment I was addicted to exercise!
From these humble beginnings I have gone from running 10 mins three times a week to regularly competing in multi-day ultra-marathon events and strength training. I have always been an average runner, however, through sensible training and eating I am proud to say that in May 2017 I came 3rd Female in a 97 mile, 3-day ultra-marathon. This passion for my own training has helped me to become a personal trainer and share my passion for exercise and nutrition with my clients.
I love nothing more than to see people achieve their goals, have fun training and most importantly find a greater confidence in themselves and go on to achieve what they never believed possible.

I have my own personal training studio in Pembury, which has a full range of cardio and resistance equipment suitable for all goals from weight loss to fitness to strength training. It is really easily accessible. Just 10 minutes from Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge and about 1 minute off the Pembury A21 turn-off.
The studio is completely private, not like a gym with hundreds of other people using it. So you don’t have to worry about waiting for equipment or other people watching what you are doing like you do in a gym. But you get all the benefits of being trained with the variety of fitness equipment that a gym offers.

I have turned my passion for health and fitness into a professional life choice and hope that my enthusiasm will inspire, motivate and encourage you to reach your goals.
My focus is primarily on Functional Fitness, both in Classes and Personal Training. I focus on training the body to be strong and supple enough to complete every day activities like carrying our kids or groceries, reaching up to top shelves, lifting heavy boxes or simply climbing up stairs. I teach a lot of movements which mimic everyday actions, incorporating multiple muscle groups at the same time. This builds strength, stability and mobility across the body, making us more efficient not only inside the gym but outside as well.
With my PT Sessions and Classes, I aim to build strength in the way your body needs to move with ease. I hope to teach and inspire techniques that will fit around busy lifestyles, as well as offering a high level of support and not forgetting a sense of fun!

I am here to give you clear, expert advice to help you achieve your health and fitness goals. I will help you see results faster using proven, balanced and innovative methods. I offer friendly motivational support, and can work with you to tailor a realistic, effective plan to get the most of the time you spend exercising
Although I have been involved in sport & keeping fit for much of my life I have also worked outside the fitness industry both in the private and public sector, plus I have run my own Ltd Company. This helps me understand & appreciate the day-to-day pressure of the working life and how important the work/life balance is. I have also been a career for family members (for both mental health and physical health) and I strongly believe in the importance of exercise as a stress release.
