I am a Chartered Linguist with over 15 years of experience working in the language industry. I have a BA (HONS) in Languages and Translation Studies. I am passionate about the Italian language, linguistic and language teaching. I am professional, friendly and empathic, and my teaching style is very effective in ensuring fast results. I am very flexible in creating tailored lessons to help you achieve your goals.

Prior to teaching I have worked in life science Reasearch and Development and in Biopharamceutical research, sales and marketing. I also worked a part-time voluntary teaching assistant in primary and seconday schools for 2 years. In 2014 I decided to change career completely to become a science teacher, so I trained at Kings College, graduating with my PGCE in 2015.
My background prior to teaching brings additional experience and skills to my teaching. Chemistry is my specialist subject. I have taught and tutored all sciences successfully to years 7 to 11, and have taught and tutored Chemistry and Biology at A level.
I am an award-winning and highly experienced "super" tutor and academic coach with over 15 years of tutoring, teaching and coaching experience, during which period I have made multiple students become university toppers and world prize winners. As for my own qualifications, I have a First Class Honours degree in Aerospace Engineering and a Doctorate in Engineering (Expertise: High-fidelity numerical simulations). As an undergraduate student at university, I was ranked number 1 with a cumulative average of 84%, for which I was honoured as the `Top Engineering Graduate`. I passed my A-levels (examining board: Edexcel) with straight A grades (note: there were no A* grades at the time), and my Mathematics mark in particular was ranked among the top in the world. To date, I`ve also authored multiple high-impact scientific journal publications.
I started tutoring undergraduates and postgraduates at the age of 19, and A-level students as early as 17. Until recently, I was also employed as a Senior Teaching Associate in Mechatronics Engineering at a leading UK University, where I was widely regarded as the highest-rated Academic. These students have been very happy to work with me because they are being prepared to reach their highest potential, and this is somewhat evident from the fact that they typically acquire the highest marks in their class / cohort. Of the hundreds of students that I have tutored / coached over the past 15 years, almost all acquired the best possible grade and none has ever got a grade lower than a B, despite the spread in the aptitudes and circumstances of incoming students. My name is José María de Lucas Sacristán, though most know me as Chema Sacristán. I've been a professional drummer since 2004. I'd like to share a brief biography of my career in the U.K. In 2002, at 19, I realized my love for music and moved to Bristol, U.K., where I lived for four years. Bristol exposed me to all sorts of music, including rock, jazz, world music, and more. I played my first shows and worked with over five different local bands, gaining valuable experience. In 2006, I moved to London to study at Tech Music Schools, known as "Drum Tech," where I completed my higher education and earned a BMUS in Popular Music Performance (Hons), licensed by West London University. After completing my degree in 2011, I worked exclusively as a performing drummer and drum teacher, giving private lessons in my own studio, Oktopus Music Services, in North West London. In the past nine years, I've had the privilege of performing, recording, and writing with some of the best musicians in the London and U.K. scene, such as Kevin Glasgow (one of Europe's best bassists), Robin Banerjee (Amy Winehouse's guitarist), Roberto Manzin (Zucchero), Felipe Martíns (Emeterians), Juan Whist (The Voice National Spanish TV), and many others. I've showcased in most of London's live music venues and with the best U.K. and European entertainment agencies, such as Scarlett Entertainment, Full Stop Entertainment, and more. After 20 years of professional experience, I've decided to focus fully on teaching drums and performing. Difficult concepts are broken down in smaller ones through scaffolding using different techniques differentiated according to each child`s individual need. It is important to push each child past their comfort zone, and I do exactly that with the students I tutor by challenging them in different ways. I tutor children across the primary phase, all the way from teaching how to read and write in English, to solving complex problems in Maths, to preparing them for their upcoming SATs or 11+ exams.

About the lessons
My lessons last 2 hours, normally starting with a conversation (with absolute beginners this time is spent in role playing, games and repetitions), followed by homework correction, grammar studies and listening to pre-recorded Italian conversations.
The lessons are very enjoyable and time goes quickly!
Teaching experience
I am a CLTA (Certificate in Teaching Italian to Adults gained at The International House in Rome) qualified tutor of Italian, with over 15 years` experience teaching Italian to adults of all backgrounds, whether learning individually or as a group. I have therefore developed a good understanding of the problems encountered by students who may be learning a language for the first time, as well as those who may be returning to learning after a long gap, and are therefore not only unused to learning, but may need to somehow fit their studies into the limits imposed by a full time working and family life.
I have also a very good record of achievement for students undertaking GCSE, A Level examinations, MLAT test and University interviews.
Approach to teaching
I use the International House method in written and spoken Italian which involves the use of authentic texts, visual, audio and internet resources, also introducing culture, politics and anything else that is of the student’s interest.
This method enables the learners to speak and improve their skills as quickly as possible. Fluency and vocabulary would expand naturally as the course progresses.

I have developed a method in teaching that enables all my students to speak fluently, understand properly and write correctly in Italian
(i) For School UNI students I have a deep understanding of the National Curricula from the different Boards, Aqua, Edexcel, Cambridge, and preparing students for University examinations, including UCL or Oxbridge. My experience gave me the ability to quickly spot the student's strengths and weaknesses. The result is that my students have all gained between B and A or A* or 9, at their A-level or GCSE exams, (I had just one student who was given a B, the others all gain A or A* or 9). However as importantly they are able to enjoy fluent speaking and a full understanding of the Italian Language.
(ii) For Adults and Professional students In tutoring adult and professional students I have developed a method which using authentic teaching material, such as New reading, or listening, songs or moves listening. This has allowed all of them to deal in Italian, to a mother tongue level, such as job interviews or giving presentation, or simply talking with Italians once in Italy
Learning a language is the process of understanding which involves all the fours apprehension skills of listening, writing, speaking, reading which makes the entire process a very effective means to train your brain, but most of all is an entire unique psychological and emotional experience. Be able to speak and understand a different language gives a distinctive touch of pride which raises our confidence allowing us to enjoy our skills

I am a fully qualified French native teacher, with over 12 years experience teaching in an outstanding London school and tutoring. I have also worked as an AQA examiner and I have a master's degree with a teaching French as a foreign language specialism and a PGCE.
