Hi! I'm Laura, a qualified Primary school teacher living in central Colchester. I have experience of teaching across the Primary age range (ages 4-11) in a range of different schools and have recent experience of working in a Special Needs school (ages 5-16). I believe that confidence and relationship building is key to helping pupils develop their skills and giving them the space and time to talk things through is so important to help them understand in a way that makes sense to them.

ABOUT TUITION AND I:
Methods of Teaching:
The vast majority of my tuition is learner led, meaning that each lesson evolves organically. Adhering to rigid lesson plans assumes a preconception of how to teach a certain topic to a learner. However, every learner is unique and should be treated as such, and so every lesson also needs to be unique.
At B. Tuition, it is about finding whatever works for your child. For example, if your child is competent with methods but struggles significantly with confidence we can work on a particular topic before it is taught in the classroom. That way the content of every lesson she walks into is already comprehended and ready for application, and she can then use the lesson to practise and reinforce. This builds her confidence. Lessons cease to be a worry and she can enjoy the www.***
With different learners it may be more beneficial to reinforce and consolidate work that has been taught in class. If your child is sitting exams within the next 6-9 months, it would be more valuable to review and work through past exam papers, identifying where marks were dropped, evaluating why and re-teach relevant topics. Past papers would, of course, be set for homework by me.
Why tuition is so necessary:
One contemporary issue of the education system is that although many secondary teachers are talented in the subjects they teach, they do not appreciate the struggle that some of us face if a subject does not come naturally. I have spent years honing my craft into making complex secondary maths and science and achievable for everyone.
Since 2011, I have been able to change the lives of hundreds of students, facilitating them in attaining their educational goals. If you are in need of private tuition, please give me a call and we can talk a little more about your specific requirments and how I can be of service.
A little more about me:
I have been tutoring since 2011, beginning as a teaching assistant for Kip McGrath Chelmsford South and progressing on to be a tutor at Kip McGrath Shenfield. My degree; Bachelor of Arts in Educational Studies, Upper II with Honours 2014 has allowed me to access the knowledge and understanding of learning and child psychology that is implemented in every lesson. Since then, I have worked as a secondary supply teacher, Kip McGrath tutor, private tutor, SENCo, ENCo, intervention specialist, behavioural consultant and a classroom teacher. References available on request.
Safeguarding Policy:
All lessons are to be conducted in a family room, with the door open at all times. A responsible adult needs to be at home throughout the entire duration of the lesson and within earshot. This is for mutual safety and security.
I have an Enhanced DBS check, registered with the update service and happy to give my consent and certificate number to any parent to check the status of my DBS online as a certificate is only as good as the day it's printed.
Mileage is calculate at £1 per mile over 5 miles from Flitch Green. So if you live in the centre of Braintree, it's www.*** miles from Flitch Green so my rate would £45 for tuition and £4 totallying £49 for the hour.
Thank you for reading and I'll look forward to hearing from you soon!

My sessions will be as student-led as possible, by this I mean I will always prioritize topics you want to focus on. We will discuss which topics you find most challenging and ones you feel most confident in and also look at how topics interlink with each other.
As well as topic content we will work on exam technique, we will look at how to approach a question, identifying the methods needed, and how to answer question in order to ensure you scoop up as many marks as possible.
In addition, we will explore the best learning style for you. I appreciate the last thing you feel like doing after a day at school or work is listen to a tutor talking, therefore I will make sessions as interactive as possible using a range of resources such as visuals, practical tasks or even a song to help remember those formulae!
As a secondary school teaching assistant, I attend GCSE maths lessons and provide support to students either 1-to-1 or in small groups. Outside of lessons, I work with students to further help them with particular topics they are struggling with. I have supported students on the verge of dropping maths completely to being well on their way to achieving a GCSE. From experience, the topics students find the trickiest are algebra, fractions and angels. I have developed a good understanding of what can make each topic difficult for a student. From interacting with different maths teachers and students, I have devised a range of strategies to develop a strong understanding of each topic.
I do not believe in the concept of being a ‘maths person’ or not. Every skill can be learnt with determination and the right support. My own journey in maths was not so smooth, I found it very difficult on starting secondary school but with a bit of extra work outside lessons, it became my favourite subject and I got an A* in my GCSE. I’m now starting a masters in Marine Science for which strong maths skills are essential. I hope to help those like me to develop confidence in maths and never feel that maths will hold them back from future opportunities.
I often hear it said that someone is either a ‘maths person’ or they are not, this is a belief that I disagree with and think that any skill can be learnt with determination and the right support. This is something I have learnt in my own experience as I admit my journey in maths was not always smooth. Nearing the end of primary, I was struggling a lot in maths and my teacher even said that ‘there was no helping me’. However, with a little extra work outside of lessons it soon became my favourite subject in secondary school and I went on to achieve an A* (now a 9) in my GCSE. Now I am due to start a masters in Marine Science, which I could not have done without strong maths skills. I wish to be able to help others, like me, to become confident in maths and never feel like their maths is going to hold them back from going for opportunities they want.

Hi there! I'm Nikkyy, a super enthusiastic math tutor with 2 years of experience, and I just love making math awesome for kids and students aged 11 to 14.
I totally get that math can sometimes be tricky, but that's where I come in! In my two years of teaching, I've learned all the cool ways to make math fun and easy to understand. I believe every kid is unique, so my lessons are all about finding what works best for them.
Why pick me? Well, I'm not just passionate about math; I've seen students go from feeling stuck to saying, "I got this!" Plus, I can do one-on-one sessions or group lessons online, and I can even get this certificate thingy (DBS) to make sure everything is super safe.
Got a few slots open now, or we can plan for September 2023. Shoot me an email at ***@*** and let's talk about making math a blast for your awesome learner!
Cheers,
nNikhila

I have always had interest in mathematics that was the reason I studied systems analyst in university. After my BSC I started tutoring students having challenge with calculations (physics calculations, chemistry calculations) especially mathematics as I want to passed on my knowledge and enthusiasm for mathematics as a subject. I have taught mathematics in different tutorial center both one-to-one, online classes with different range of levels.
I have at least ten years of teaching experience with capability of tackling problems of wide range of students battling difficulties in coping with both mathematics and further mathematics in both IGCSE and A-level exam.
I believe strongly that I can add value to any students if given a chance.

I have great experience teaching within the class setting and tutoring, both online and face to face, teaching a whole class, small groups and 1:1. I started my teaching career working as a reception class teacher, teaching 4 year olds, a role with a huge amount of responsibility, providing a nurturing, caring environment whilst also providing a love of learning. Since then I have taught in years 1 to 4, teaching maths, English, science, history, geography, art and personal, social and health care. Due to the covid pandemic and school closures I taught for several months online, teaching the class as a whole, in small groups and some one to one sessions also. Following on from successful tutoring of one family they offered me the position of nanny/tutor and for the past 2 years I have been a nanny for a family of 5 children, teaching the eldest 4 on a daily basis. Due to a chenge in my own family circumstances I am no longer able to offer the overnight and weekend hours that they desire so am seeking a new challenge of online tutoring. I am professional, reliable and passionate about teaching. Tutoring enables lessons to be not only specific to an individual child's needs but also specific to their interests, making learning more interesting and creating an enthusiasm and pride for the child, taking ownership of their achievements. Please do get in touch if you have any questions at all. Thanks, Rebecca.
