Hi. My name is Gemma. I am a science and maths tutor, specialising in biology and applied mathematics. I teach with a strong focus on exam skill and application of knowledge, using a mixture of theory, practice questions and exam questions. I encourage a positive attitude to the subject and aim to create a love for learning, as well as good grades. Questions are always welcomed throughout my lessons. I have 3 years experience as an online private tutor in both UK and international exam boards, at all ability levels, including teaching students who have English as a second language. In my role as SENDCO I line managed a team of support staff and It was my primary role to ensure all students needs are met in line with their EHCP. Outside of my classrooms I have developed community links by taking a lead role in enrichement and after school clubs. I am a level 2 Football and Cricket Coach. In my previous school I led the football,cricket and running club. I have a love for sport and understand the importance of instilling healthy habits in children and the positive effects it can have on their mental health and wellbeing. Through my involvement in these sports I have developed good links with other schools, both primary and secondary whereby pupils have been able to competively take part in a variety of sporting fixtures. I thoroughly enjoy working with children during these extra-curricular activities as it not only teaches them new skills but the children also get the chance to shine when using existing skills. In addition to this, the children learn life skills such as; social skills, speaking and listening skills, teamwork, tolerance and develop leadership skills. I always look to involve myself in the delivery of clubs regardless of my role in school.
As well as sporting clubs, I have organised Maths clubs using exciting problems. One area that I am passionate about is engaging and including parents in the curriculum. I delivered parent Maths classes to provide skills and confidence for parents supporting their children with their homework. It proved to be very popular with parents and children notebaly, parents became more engaged with the work their children were doing. The importance of opeing up the classroom for parents anddeveloping these links has direlcty contricbuted the young peoples confidence in their educartion. I would be very keen to secure these links again.

I am an experienced, fully qualified Special Educational Needs (SEN) teacher. I hold the relevant qualifications to be able to deliver specialist dyslexia programmes and to complete full diagnostic assessment for dyslexia. I have taught in mainstream, special school settings and for a local authority SEN service providing assessments and intervention programmes within schools. I hold professional membership of the Professional Association of Teachers of Students with Specific Learning Difficulties (PATOSS) and am registered as a tutor and assessor with this organisation.
I care very much about enabling children and young people to reach their full potential despite barriers to learning. Barriers to learning can arise for many different reasons including specific learning difficulties , difficulties with concentration and focus, diagnoses such has ADHD and ASD and emotional and mental health needs such as anxiety. I have experience of how education can sometimes stop working for a child and of the potentially massive impacts of this. My aim is to offer an affordable tutoring service to families who face these challenges. I have been privately tutoring Mathematics to students from the ages 10-18 (Secondary School through to A-Levels) over the past four years whilst completing my Master's degree in Mathematics. I take great pride in my work as a tutor, and always make it a priority to make my students feel comfortable that they can ask me any questions at any time during a lesson. Having been on both sides of the small classroom teaching dynamic, I can sympathise with how some students may feel a sense of unease when starting a new class with a new teacher, which can ultimately impact their classroom learning. During my lessons, I like to stress the importance that this is not simply another classroom lesson where I talk and the student should remain quiet, and instead encourage my students to ask me any and all questions they have about the subject. The more they can tell me about their concerns with Mathematics, the more information I have to work with when adapting the lesson to their needs. My preferred teaching style is to look through previous work that a student has completed, and create complete breakdowns to topics/exam question solutions to give the student a step-by-step method that they can use beyond the lesson. After each lesson, I send an email with a document attached that contains all of the information discussed during the lesson, so that they can use the teachings at their own leisure in the future. If I specialise my lessons to each student, then what would be the point of me not sharing the resources afterwards? My working times are quite flexible, as I work from home, so most days from 10:00 - 18:00 work well for me. This is not a strict time window, however, so please feel free to contact me with alternative times outside of these hours, and we can see if we can make it work.
