After 21 years in a primary school classroom I became disillusioned with the school system. I was being told to teach in a way that didn't suit me but more importantly, didn't suit some of my pupils. A 'one size fits all' approach wasn't working and I became as frustrated as my pupils. Then the pandemic hit and the couple of hours after school tuition I had been doing became a full time job. My pupils flourished, made great progress, their confidence grew and I felt like myself again. I therefore started Pipkin Tuition and came out of school for good. Since then I've helped lots of children achieve their potential with smiles on their faces. I help with general concerns and progress across the primary age range, undertake SATs, 7 + and 11+ preparation and have recently helped pupils predicted 3s or 4s to pass their Maths GCSE. All my sessions take place via Zoom, focussing on building confidence and fluency before moving on to looking at the knowledge and skills required by the National Curriculum.

I have worked in education for over 20 years, teaching in secondary, specialist and primary schools. I've been a SENCO on a mainstream secondary school. Quite often my time in Mathematics tuition has been taken up by A-level students who were in way over thier heads due to the jump in the difficulty of the subject from GCSE to A-level, even the best GCSE students can struggle at A-level. I would always advise students to spend some of the summer run up period to starting A-level studying as much of the early A-level work as possible. Unless the student is particularly gifted in math, then success in A-level or GCSE will be dependent on a great deal of hard work and practice on the students behalf.

I always take a student-centered approach to teaching by asking students to bring their notes and talk me through the topics they feel are most difficult.
