I believe I have a strong educational background. I received 75% first class for biomedical sciences in UCL. I have received 8A*, 3As and B for my GCSE and I got an A for physics and I graduated with A*A*A* for Maths, Chemistry and biology for A level. Throughout my secondary school, I have been nominated several times as the top in the year for several subjects like Maths, Chemistry and Physics. I have also contributed to Maths and Biology Olympiad achieving silver for both. I have good organisation skills: I always plan and prepare resources to provide the best learning experience for the students. I try to be friendly, patient and become an active listener. Also, I am usually very interactive with students to build their problem-solving skills. I can personalise the teaching style to fit each student’s different learning style and pace of learning. I have tutored students (age 6-18) for 5 years for mainly maths, sciences and piano but I have tutored English before up to GCSE level. I have also helped A level students with their university admission for medicine/science courses + Oxbridge. I did remote teaching during the Covid pandemic thus I am comfortable and knowledgeable at using online platforms and I usually tutor with an iPad as well. I like taking new challenges. I always enjoyed taking new roles during study (such as Course Rep and student quality reviewer) and learning new skills (such as how to use photoshop, procreate and solidworks). Hence I believe I would take on the challenge well with my hardworking and positive attitude. I am also available immediately thus able to start the lesson as soon as possible.

I am currently studying psychology at University of Birmingham; I will graduate summer 2025. I also volunteer as a Peer Assisted Study Session (PASS) leader every week at university. This entails helping first year students with psychology coursework. Education has been my life for the last fifteen years. I started volunteering at the age of seventeen, I completed my degree and my post-graduate teaching qualification whilst doing so and then later on in my career; I completed my Master’s degree.
I began teaching almost twelve years ago at Loughborough College before increasing my subject knowledge and training at Stephenson College in Coalville, Leicestershire. I have privately tutored GCSE and A level, along with teaching Functional skills Maths, English, BTEC and IMI Maths and Science for the Motor Vehicle department and most recently I managed my own company offering Maths and English courses to various education providers across the UK. I am now looking for freelance work which will work around my family and lifestyle.
Within my self-employed role and my role as Head of Maths at UKSA, I was solely responsible for developing learning plans and schemes of work to an extremely high standard. I dealt with funding providers who wanted evidence of learner progress and achievement which was extremely stressful. I worked with a range of education providers to develop their online GCSE and Functional Skills courses to enable them to take on learners across the country for apprenticeships and other education programmes. I have had the pleasure of working with UK Sport Academy and Stanmore College most recently which I have thoroughly enjoyed. I was able to design a business strategy for myself which helped education providers adhere to the rules surrounding funding whilst also providing an easier way to complete compulsory education. The in-depth schemes of work and learning content have proven to allow students to excel in their qualifications and do so outside of the classroom and instead, in a virtual setting.
Creating online content such as videos, quizzes, assignments and interactive practice exams has been an excellent area in which I could excel and use my creative side. I have had the pleasure of developing programmes for GCSE Maths and English as well as Functional Skills Maths and English from entry level 3 up to Level 2. I was able to keep in touch with tutors and educational leaders to ensure students were on track, targets were met and KPIs were monitored and tracked. Having such a varied workload has allowed me to become resilient and helped me to persevere through tough assignments and tasks; it has increased my passion for making a positive impact on the lives of young people in a way that wasn’t always classroom based.
I think I have a great deal of transferrable skills which will make me a great fit for this role. Having been observed a great deal over my career, I have perfected my teaching style and have been awarded grade ones and twos. I was able to use a range of resources and teaching and learning strategies to increase learner understanding and differentiation. A huge part of my career has been assessing the skills of learners and making them aware of their goals as well as helping them to achieve them; I also worked with team members and other staff to improve their teaching style and motivated them to achieve their personal goals and aspirations within education. I feel that this will help me when working with the variety of stakeholders within the role. A large part of my job was managing my learner caseloads and ensuring they were on track. I enjoy the fast paced and varied workload and these skills will help me when working to deadlines, working to key performance measures and developing my own candidate database when ensuring successful programme completion of every learner.
I believe you are only as good as the team around you; and as Maya Angelou said ‘people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel’. I will endeavour to be supportive and use my current and future skills to keep stakeholders happy and feel that they are a valuable asset. Having worked with so many different education providers, I know I have the customer service skills and communications techniques that will be invaluable as a Private Tutor.
I appreciate the use of a good plan and pride myself on the use of accurate and detailed timetables, this allows me to complete work to deadlines and ensure it is up to a noble standard. I constantly monitored my student’s attendance and performance using my own version of tracking sheets and student profiles; this enabled me to identify areas for improvement, learning support needs and at risk students. The data I collected throughout the year such as mock exam results and initial assessment/diagnostic assessment results helped with planning lessons and helped to create an effective and efficient marking system.
