I am fairly traditional in my approach. My previous pupils - I am recently retired - would describe me as thorough, encouraging and able to develop a strong self belief to succeed in a tricky subject.
Teaching Chemistry for 41 years has given me significant insight into the common conceptual pitfalls that hinder learning. So, first and foremost, I aim to develop a sound conceptual understanding and thereby foster tutees' confidence. Grasping Chemistry is like tackling a jig-saw puzzle: The pattern emerges when the links between the individual parts are apparent; I pride myself in enabling tutees to make these connections. Once the subject foundations are secure we move on to questions, examination technique and past papers.
I use a personalised approach to learning, making sessions as engaging and enjoyable as possible by trying to explain the complex ideas using everyday examples. My career has been as a learning and development specialist with 30 years in an airlines, and a rich background of 20 years as a private tutor, successfully coaching students up to GCSE level.

Following completion of A-Levels in History, English Literature and Health and Social Care, I began my career in education through obtaining a degree in primary education, specialising in the arts and humanities. I have taught children ranging from 4-11 in addition to gaining experience in EAL, SEN and training in BR@P and Prevent. I have further experience as a nursery nurse and a childminders assistant focusing on preparing early years children for school. I am currently a Medical student at Keele and a graduate from the University of Salford, achieving a 1st in my degree in Human Biology and Infectious Disease. Achieving the highest mark within my university. I was responsible for a programme known as GEMMS which is for supporting students in their medicine/dentistry applications, assisting them in interview technique and for the entrance exams.

I will conclude the lesson by asking them if there is anything they would like to discuss in our next session so that I could prepare some questions in advance. I will also regularly be assessing your improvement through the use of practice papers to get an idea of where the student is at and how they can further improve.
