I am a native French speaker and I have been living in the UK for over 30 years. I very much enjoy meeting people and my tailor-made lessons are fun and relaxed. I mainly work as a proofreader and editor for several educational publishers and definitely understand the challenges of my mother tongue.
I am enthusiastic and I will help you:

I have many years' experience in teaching adults at all levels, from beginners to advanced, face-to-face from my home in Torquay or on WhatsApp, but do not hold any qualifications in the teaching field. I am DBS checked.
I have taught at Torquay Girls Grammar School (GCSE and A-Level) and at Brixham College as an adult education tutor.
I also offer:
- a professional translation service (tourism publications, website contents, commercial brochures, advertising, trade shows literature, packaging, estimates for renovation projects, medical records);
- support with all issues regarding French properties;
- native speaker checks / proofreading (educational publications, presentations, websites, restaurant menus and commercial literature).
- boarding for small, friendly and well-trained dogs, but not in the same rooms as the students, just to do something different to keep fit and because I love dogs!
Throughout my working life, teaching French has been my main occupation. Starting as a language assistant, working as a full time secondary school teacher and working as an Adult Education tutor I have developed a broad range of effective skills which enable the learners to gain confidence in using French whatever their starting level. Passing on my enthusiasm for languages has proven to be thoroughly rewarding. I always seek to inspire my students and I have received excellent feedback. In 2013, I received the award for “inspirational tutor” of the year from South Devon College, having been nominated before on several previous occasions. I have experience in teaching all age groups from children to adults and all levels, frоm beginners tо advanced. I have taught across the age and ability range. I set high expectations for student achievement, always seeking to challenge and motivate so as to maximise the potential of each and every learner.
I thrive on helping others and teaching French has always been one of my passions. I have been told I am very patient, I explain things very clearly and have a good sense of humour.

With over a decade working in education and private tuition, I have extensive experience in preparing students for National exams. Academically, I focus on English Language and Literature, French and Spanish. I also have a wealth of experience in successfully preparing students for the Foundation Tier Maths exam.
At GCSE and IGCSE level I have experience teaching all of the major exam boards including AQA, Pearson Edexcel, WJEC, CIE and OCR. There isn't a great deal of variation between the different boards in terms of content as GCSE level is largely standardised. Nevertheless it does help to be familiar with the variation in the emphasis of a particular syllabus and the format of the exam paper.

NHS Doctor with over 10 years of experience studying and completing exams and over 7 years teaching Maths, Biology and Chemistry for KS3, GCSE and A Level. My tuition approach is listed below.
Each lesson begins with a run-through of the topic and explanation of key concepts with opportunities for pupils to ask questions. Students are then provided with high yield exam questions and worksheets to complete. Questions are then marked together to highlight areas of strength and areas of improvement. An emphasis is always maintained on exam technique during each lesson. Assessments to determine student improvement are provided every 4-6 weeks.
All students are taught how to study effectively using two evidence-based study techniques:
1) Active Recall - Here students create useful revision questions to test their memory of certain topics
2) Spaced Repetition - Here students are taught how to strategically review topics regularly and boost their chances of remembering important exam content throughout the year and leading up to exams.
My classes are always tailored with a personalised programme for each and every student and remain friendly and engaging. All resources including specialised notes for each exam board, revision questions and exam question related to the tutees exam board are provided free of charge.
