I have taught across a range of schools in both the UK and abroad and therefore have knowledge of teaching GCSEs, IGCSEs, A-Levels and IB. I am currently teaching in a private school for secondary level students and am willing to offer lessons to students who are in need of catch up for their language GCSE and Alevels. I am a keen linguist and have lived in Germany, Switzerland and China.
I did my PGCE in German with French which involved the usual two teaching practices. I completed these in two comprehensive schools. Since gaining QTS in my first teaching job in 2005, I have taught German, French and Spanish in three secondary schools, all at Keystages 3, 4 and 5. I am currently employed teaching all three of these languages in an independent school.
I believe that, in the drive to raise pupil confidence in speaking and general communication, there has been a decline in rigorous grammar teaching. My feeling is that knowing the grammatical foundations of a language well, in the long run, provides a basis upon which to build and therefore facilitates more confident and accurate communication. I try to strike a balance between sound reinforcement of the fundamentals whilst nurturing curiosity in the learner to try things out, manipulating language across contexts. With German in particular I like to offer an insight into the culture of the country and my time living in Germany enables me to bring the language "out of the page". I really enjoy teaching and like to engage my pupils so that they feel comfortable to ask questions. I also inject a little humour into my delivery, which has enhanced my teaching and boosted relationships. Mine is a safe place for learners to develop.

I have been a tutor for a few years teaching both face to face and online. To me, the most important thing as a tutor is to really listen to your student and let them explain what they may find challenging about a subject. Each student is different and therefore their lessons should also be unique. My students appreciate my friendly approach to learning and it is important that the students are in the driving seat of their lessons. I regularly ask my students what they would like to focus on and I base my lessons around where they can make the most progress.
I think it is important to have a tutor that is actively learning more about their subject of choice and that is why I am unique as a tutor. Throughout my teaching career to date, I have assumed full responsibility for independent lesson planning, execution and assessment which includes implementation of a wide variety of teaching and learning strategies such as keeping young learners active at all times, adapting materials to suit different learner styles and interests, providing a meaningful and fun learning context, making sure that all activities are achievable yet offer some degree of challenge and implementing varied strategies to support weaker learners. Whilst working in Spain, I gained a sound knowledge and awareness of principal EFL methodologies and theories of language acquisition. My background:
I have a wealth of teaching and leadership experience gained across both mainstream primary and independent all-through schools. Additionally, I have spent time teaching in Spain in international schools and privately owned English language academies where I worked for several years teaching English and curriculum to children, teenagers and adults. After several years in Spain, I moved back to England to pursue a career in the primary education sector where I have been working on a full-time basis ever since. Many of the vast and varied skills I acquired in a business career previous to teaching have been both relevant and invaluable to aid a successful transition into the profession, both as a class teacher, modern foreign language specialist and private tutor.
My experience:
I have been working as a class teacher in the primary sector in England for over 10 years now. Accountable for the teaching and learning across various primary year groups, I am responsible for individually and collectively planning and assessing all national curriculum subjects in accordance with school policies, with the ultimate aim of ensuring the highest possible standards of pupil achievement, progress, personal development and well-being. In addition to my day to day class teacher duties, I am also Assessment/HPL/Curriculum and MFL (French and Spanish) Coordinator for whole of school, these additional key school-wide responsibilities require that I keep myself abreast and up to date with all relevant requirements and/or changes. Currently, I am working within the state sector as Year 6 Class Teacher.
