Raising the academic attainment of students has been a deep passion and successful achievement - as a former Founding Principal of a school for 4- 16-year-olds, a current practising English teacher, and a tutor. I am currently teaching English on a full-time basis and therefore have up-to-date knowledge in English Language and Literature. I have significant experience teaching remotely. In addition, I have extensive experience in marking GCSE English Language and literature papers. Over ten years, 98% of my tutees have entered elite grammar schools (a few students have gained scholarships each year, too). During the last two years, 97% of my English Language tutees have achieved levels 7-9 in GCSE English Language and 96% levels 7-9 in GCSE English Literature.
I am well-resourced in teaching face-to-face or online. An initial consultation with parents and tutee, possibly a view of the school reports, will enable me to gather necessary information about your child. I have worked in education for over 8 years. I started out as a nursery nurse in a small nursery and then went to become a teaching assistant in a primary school. I started in the year 5 class and only recently moved to the year 1 class, where i have much experience in phonics, maths and english in the key stage. My name is Megan B. and I have just completed my Alevels! I am currently working in a secondary school within the French department gaining experience of the teaching and education industry. Working in this school has helped me to develop both as a person, academically and in professional education. As I know different styles of teaching and what can work best for different people. I have taken 1-1, small groups and classes so I have lots of experience with different students. I also have a TEFL qualification (teaching English as a foreign language) which is a worldwide recognised qualification that allows me to teach and I have gained lots of knowledge from doing this, including how to best support students, plan effective lessons and teach sessions with different students and abilities. I am a committed and patient individual who loves to adapt to best suit the students ways of learning. As a poet and creative writer, I use my skills to support my students' engagement in literacy, improve their reading and writing and find their enjoyment and self-expression in English. I also hold a first class degree in Psychology with Cognitive Neuroscience and am very happy to work with Psychology students to develop essay writing, psychological theory and statistics/research skills.
I can offer sessions based on phonetics, spelling, reading and writing, focusing on the student's particular needs and using their interests to engage them.
Alternatively for older children, children who have a particular interest in writing and for adults, I can offer bespoke sessions on creative writing and poetry. These sessions will improve the student's confidence, encourage self-expression and develop them into a creative and skilled writer.
I have worked with children and young people for 7 years in paid and volunteering roles, leading and facilitating workshops to develop English and creative skills. I have a lot of experience in a range of learning disabilities, both with children and adults. Sessions can be adapted for students with visual impairments, hard of hearing students, non-verbal students, and students with emotional disturbance or challenging behaviour.
