I specialise in Online English tuition, covering all texts in the GCSE and KS3, along with essay writing practice and exam revision. My services also include online adult functional skills tuition. My mission is to help students become more confident in their English skills and to provide them with the tools and strategies for success.
A little about me in the school setting
My roles have allowed me to build on a range of areas that I have been interested in for some time. My focus on ‘pedagogy’ has been developed towards ‘praxis’ – the idea that one reflects and acts uponp ractice to transform it. What I have learnt is that a narrow focus on the classroom isn’t enough. Instead,an effective system is one which develops productive and synergistic relationships between learners,families, and the community, and that a deep understanding of the context in which you work, the locality and the culture in which learners live is crucial. I believe we have started on exciting journey here proceeding and developing positively on recent Ofsted feedback – building on those to ensure that learning really is a community endeavour in the best possible sense. My ‘curriculum’ will not stop at the door of a classroom, or the school gate but will be a transforming powerhouse for all living in the community. This, in practical terms could be parenting support in the form of coaching and peer support; providing evening classes in basic skills, parental revision classes to help them best assist their child. It could be using the school buildings as a base of local CPD provision, for meetings, for collaboration among local departments.

I run a tutoring business catering for those students needing support with the following subjects:
GCSE - Maths, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Economics and English.

I also tutor music theory for those wishing to gain entry to university that require the ABRSM music theory qualification.

I am an experienced English teacher who has worked in secondary schools for the over 20 years. I am also an AQA Lead Moderator and and Adviser to more than 150 schools for English Language A Level. I have Advanced Diplomas (post degree) in Language and Literacy and in Child Development. English Language is my passion though, of course, I have taught GCSE Literature as part of my professional role in school and I love teaching the texts associated with the requirements of the course. I am happy to write specific schemes of work tailored for students' specific needs. I enjoy working with teenagers at both GCSE and A Level though my specialist Language knowledge is particularly relevant to A Level Language students. Increasingly, however, this in depth knowledge is relevant to GCSE English students. I am happy to work with all levels and relish the opportunity to engage with individuals who are seeking to increase their knowledge and understanding of the key requirements for both GCSE and A level courses. During the past year I have worked alongside students from years 7 - 13. I prefer to work online as this allows me to work one to one with pupils from across the country and help them to develop their skills through close monitoring and feedback. My DBS Certificate was renewed on 15 June 2024 and I have a current Child Protection Certificate 2024 both of which are requirements for my position as an English Teacher at a High School. I will make all powerpoints available to students after the classes and will mark and give feedback for work completed after the lessons although homework is optional.

Childcare and Early years, is an area of education that I am very enthusiastic about and I would like the opportunity to make learning for others as enjoyable and fulfilling as my own has been. As a teacher, it is my role to provide opportunities for all, regardless of ability, and to ensure that everyone has a positive experience. Throughout my time in education I have always had a passion for teaching this lead me to complete a BA Hons in Education Studies. Where in my first year I studied topics such as Historical and Contemporary issues and teaching and learning in the primary sector. In addition, the second year of my degree I went on to study Philosophy of Education this gave me great insight into the contributions of key philosophers to our understanding of education, ranging from classical thinkers such as Plato and Aristotle to contemporary ones including Paulo Freire and Richard Rorty. This was one of my favourite topics as I found all the different theories very interesting. Furthermore, I have also undertaken placement while successfully completing my PGCE at Bolton College, it was here which provided me with an invaluable insight into different teaching styles and assessment strategies. One of the modules I undertook while studying for my PGCE was promoting positive behaviour. I feel very passionate about this topic and find all the different theories behind it very interesting. I also used some of them in my teachings for example Lev Vygotsky believe we should support students learning by assessing their prior knowledge and then giving them tools to increase this knowledge. This is done by letting the student figure out how to use the tools, to encourage them to move on to the next level of learning. ‘What a child can do today with assistance, tomorrow she will be able to do by herself’ this quote was coined by Vygotsky himself and backs up his beliefs. It is my intention to combine my array of experiences with my ability to be a compassionate, enthusiastic and approachable tutor who will make a positive influence. In addition to being an outstanding teacher of History and Sociology with over 25 years experience I am also a 121 tutor of English Literature and Language, working with students who are unable to access education in a traditional setting for a variety of emotion's.
