I am an enthusiastic and dedicated English tutor, examiner and writer. I offer stimulating and enjoyable lessons via video call which build upon each student's strengths to enable them to overcome their difficulties with greater confidence. I find tutoring immensely rewarding and strive to help all my students meet their full potential regardless of their ability. I have experience teaching SEN students, particularly those with autism, dyslexia and manual difficulties. To date I have had 100% pass rate and all of my students have achieved grades 9-4 (A*- C). I am a member of the Tutors Association and have a current DBS Enhanced certificate .
I understand fully the advantages and disadvantages of studying from home as I have gained all of my qualifications through distance learning, including my PhD. I also home schooled my son from the age of 4-16. I have been a judge of the BBC Radio 2 '500 Words' children's short story competition and a volunteer for the National Literacy Trust's "Summer Reading Challenge" for children. I have a research interest in Thomas Hardy and write poetry and English study guides.

I have taught English for fourteen years, spending the last six at my local secondary school in Stroud. Before that I spent the previous six years at a secondary school in Churchdown, where I was an `Outstanding` teacher in a department that was rated `Outstanding` by Ofsted.

About Me: Experience & Interests
Having qualified as a teacher in 2004, I have been teaching at Secondary level (including A Level) for 16 years. My first two years in the profession were spent teaching in Bassaleg School in Newport before moving to Oxfordshire 14 years ago, to teach in a comprehensive school in Abingdon. In 2008, I became Head of English, a role I held for 6 years prior to having children. I have been tutoring privately for the past 6 years, with tutees ranging from Year 5 to Year 11. My area of interest and expertise for tutoring has mainly focused on KS4, but I also have experience in tutoring younger students for their Year 6 SATS Exam and for the 13+ Grammar School examination. In my role as Head of English, I oversaw Literacy across the Curriculum Interventions and Developments as well as mentoring trainee interns and delivering professional development sessions to newly qualified teachers. As a mentor for the PGCE teacher-training course at The University of Oxford, I have also regularly assisted the university in interviewing applicants for their course. As an examiner for AQA Literature, I have had training in understanding the requirements of the new 2015 specification, as well as three years’ experience of grading exam scripts. I am also an assessor for the National Foundation for Educational Research, an independent provider of research in education. I have experience in teaching various exam boards including AQA, WJEC, Edexcel and IGCSE. In my spare time, I enjoy playing the violin and piano, going to the gym, swimming and skiing.

Approaches to Tutoring
Different students require different approaches to learning and so I work hard to tailor my sessions according to the needs of the student. In addition to one-to-one online tutoring, I also offer paired tuition (with someone of a similar age and ability) and small group tuition (Maximum of 6 per class). I offer term-time and holiday lessons: one-off sessions, short term or long term according to the needs of the student. Please send me a message if you would like further information and prices. I went into teaching as it has always been my passion to try to make a difference in children's lives.
After careful consideration I decided to leave mainstream education and set up my own learning centre using kinaesthetic activities with play therapy.
The centre also offers meditation in order to promote wellbeing in body, mind and spirit.
I believe children are all individual and no two children are the same.

I am currently a PhD student in Education at the University of Bath, Bath Somerset.
I worked as an ESL and SEN Teacher for the past 5 years in Japan teaching both online and in-person, after concluding a post-graduate educational research program at Naruto University of Education, Japan. Prior to that, I had taught for five years at The Centagon International School (TCIS), Abuja and for two years at Rainbow International College, Surulere, Lagos.

Having taught in international multicultural schools, I have had some excellent results with a wide range of learners who had had a history/background of 'not-so-good' performance in Math, English and Sciences. A good number of my students who had challenges in core aspects now hit on-levels and above-levels with ease, confidence, and delight.

I have been teaching English one-to-one and small groups for over 11 years. I have taught all ages ranging from 3 years to over 70 years. I teach all levels ranging from Pre-Entry to C1. I teach people including students, to migrants, to different professions ranging from Housekeepers to Business professionals. I am able to teach General English, Academic English, IELTS preparation, TOEFL preparation, Functional Skills English, and Trinity College ESOL Skills for Life exam preparation.
I really enjoy teaching English as a second or foreign language and I believe in making the learning fun. I teach in the interest of the student and endeavour to develop the learning based around their interests and specific requirements. I use a variety of mediums such as; online activities, books, worksheets, internet, realia (real life objects), role - play, songs, videos, etc.
