It has been my dream since I was a child to be a teacher, I would love to teach people English.
I have taught English for fourteen years, spending the last six at my local secondary school in Stroud. Before that I spent the previous six years at a secondary school in Churchdown, where I was an `Outstanding` teacher in a department that was rated `Outstanding` by Ofsted.
I currently teach 11-16 year olds, specialising in students who struggle with literacy and GCSE grade 4/5 borderline students. I have also taught Gifted and Talented and Particularly Able students and have a proven track record across a range of ages.
I am also an experienced examiner who currently marks for a popular GCSE exam board.
I am a friendly, passionate English teacher and I live with my wife and two young sons in Stroud.
I always make time to read, I enjoy playing football and I`m a member of a Stroud writing group.
I have taught English and English Literature for over 10 years. In this time I have taught a range of different texts from different exam boards and have lots of experience of marking exam papers. I have attended Pixl courses so I am fully aware of the demands and requirements of GCSE examinations. I am also keen reader and part of the school book club. As teaching and learning leader of my school I also train other English teachers.

I have continued my professional development with dedication and motivation to the holistic development of young people. As a teaching assistant, higher level teaching assistant, and trainee teacher, I have worked with a range of pupils within a variety of settings from EYFS through to KS4, including pupils who are Academically More Able, Special Educational Needs/Additional Learning Needs, and Pupil Premium. This has given me a broad insight as to the range of provision implemented, early help provided to families, and the process undertaken to obtain an EHCP, along with collaborating with outside agencies.
My school experience, coupled with teaching placements, has enabled me to reflect on my philosophy and pedagogy. This has enabled me to recognise the importance of valuing each child as they are all unique and they matter. I am committed to ensuring the learning I generate is interesting, creative, and exciting. I enjoy seeing children engaging in a variety of activities whether that be in the classroom or the vicinity of the school grounds. This tells me that they are learning and are expanding their cognition through discovery and investigation.
I am always looking to engage with opportunities to progress my pedagogy further into my profession. In view of this, I hope to find a school where access to good quality educational experiences beyond the classroom is of great importance. I genuinely believe that core subject attainment can be considerably enhanced, especially in areas of Pupil Premium, when learning is applied to practical activities. An example of this would be teaching Science-circulatory system and living things- Maths -which maths mastery was implemented- English -through precision teaching and the carrying out of shared writes and History when pedagogy cross-curricular lessons of the Greek gods and the Olympics-both ancient and modern-day, using a range of resources to explain the different parts, such as artifacts of Greece, heart, and lungs, respectively. Another example would be, creating a medium-term plan “Earth's Unleashed” topic which entailed Geography, History, and Science cross-curricular lessons to investigate how and why human disasters happen. From the onset, immersing these topics help to bring them to life for the children but it also teaches the classes respect and provides an excellent opportunity to develop a new and very effective behaviour management strategy, ‘teamwork’. When planning and delivering the “Earth’s Unleased” topic, I introduced visual photos and related the lesson focus on Art when painting, using an array of coloured pencils and a variety of resources, such as sponges and cotton wool. At this point in my training, I gained further experience in planning and delivering lessons that are imaginative and creative, aiming to encourage engagement from all learners.
I understand the importance of assessment and use both a range of assessment strategies from observations in schools, as well as formulating my own. In every lesson that I teach, I use a range of formative assessment strategies, including thumbs-up, peer marking, and questioning, supported with verbal and written feedback. During my most recent placement, my mentor regularly highlighted that verbal feedback is one of my biggest strengths, along with Maths. I am fascinated by how children learn and what they are learning. I find dialogue to be a highly effective method of assessment, as when discussing in pairs or groups I can identify any misconceptions and address them, acknowledge their interpretation, and help secure their cognition for life-long learning.
I find it immensely informative to track pupils' progress after every lesson. This enables me to identify the most appropriate pedagogy to enable their cognition to develop further. Throughout my career in education to date, I have acknowledged that teaching needs to be adapted either every day or during the actual lesson, for children to acknowledge and understand the concepts. However, I use both formative and summative assessment to directly inform my planning, as time is valuable.
My ethos as a teacher has developed further during my teacher training. I place significant value on communication and the development of listening skills, as it is my ambition to expand my knowledge and the implementation of Philosophy 4 Children within the classroom. I will provide opportunities for groups wherever possible, as this is a proven method of increasing attainment. I will ensure the children in my care achieve their full potential, supporting them dynamically, and adapting my teaching to suit their learning. Throughout my teaching experience I have spent many hours working with Pupil Premium and SEN children, this also enables relationships to build and to get to know each other’s interests.
I am able to tech at all levels and an friendly yet highly effective at enthusing to great results. I have worked professionally as a guitarist in function bands,blues bands, tribute acts ( Floyd, dire straits, Jerry Lee Lewis, Ricky Nelson, led Zeppelin and many more), duos, solo, classical, jazz and folk in UK, Oman, Dubai and Spain. I have also been a full time teacher of drama, music and performing arts at secondary level at the esteemed Cheltenham Ladies College and have gone on to run my own drama department at Cleeve school. I will teach online or face to face and will create bespoke lessons as we progress according to exactly what you need. I can hold drama workshops and sessions, assist with lamda exams and any other creative exams. Fully knowledgeable of AQA GCSE and a level drama I can assist with homework, or exam preparation.
I am a tutor with over 25 years experience across all key stages and tutoring adults. I graduated from the University of Durham in 1992 with a BA Hons in Music before training as a primary school teacher. After 10 years I moved to secondary where I was Head of Music and taught Music, Mathematics, English and EPQ. I have extensive experience working with different learning needs and was responsible for introducing a phonics support programme at my own children's school when they were diagnosed with Dyslexia. I aim to make learners feel secure and confident by building a relationship with them and carefully matching lessons to their needs, abilities and interests. I am currently offering online tuition in Mathematics, English, Music and Science to GCSE and Music Theory at grades 1 to 8. Hourly rate: Individual tuition £35/ hr £20/ 30 mins I am also happy to teach small groups so if you feel that it would be beneficial for your child to be learning alongside their friends I can set up sessions where the cost can be shared between families. I am located in Cheltenham (GL52 3HF) and would be happy to take on students who would like to transfer to face to face tuition once the current situation is over as well as students who wish to learn exclusively online.

I have been teaching English one-to-one and small groups for over 11 years. I have taught all ages ranging from 3 years to over 70 years. I teach all levels ranging from Pre-Entry to C1. I teach people including students, to migrants, to different professions ranging from Housekeepers to Business professionals. I am able to teach General English, Academic English, IELTS preparation, TOEFL preparation, Functional Skills English, and Trinity College ESOL Skills for Life exam preparation.
I really enjoy teaching English as a second or foreign language and I believe in making the learning fun. My name is Christine Borg. I grew up in a small island where my education led me to a Bachelor’s degree in General Medical Studies. However, the artistic fibre in me eventually took me to London to study Drama and in 2017, I graduated with a Master’s degree from Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts.
I returned to my family and pursued my other life interests: dogs, target shooting, and SCUBA diving amongst other things. I had to earn a living besides trying to put into practice my Acting career. I managed to balance work and getting some experience in Theatre, TV, film, Radio voice overs and singing.
The best balance of work and satisfaction came through teaching but, after Summer 2019 my life brought me back to the UK, where I now live. I took the first good job that came along, solely to earn my living.
However, I want my work be worthwhile besides being my financial income. Satisfaction in my job is of the utmost importance to me, and I believe I can achieve this through teaching.
My qualifications allow me to teach English to students form 3-year-olds to adults, GCSE level Chemistry, Biology and Physics and Science to 8 to 16-year-old students.
As I wish to continue teaching Online, I use all my experience from my TEFL qualifications and Drama school days to improvise and make my lessons as interactive and as interesting as possible. In English classes, in particular, I can help the students with their pronunciation and conversation by giving them confidence in themselves. I try to apply a positive outlook in whatever I am teaching. Engaging with the student is the basis for learning.
