My name is Zoë and I am currently 18 and on my gap year with the intent to start university in September, where I will study a course centered around Anthropology, politics and various cultural studies. So far this year I have held the position of pre-nursery and K1 teacher at an international kindergarten in Hong Kong, travelled through the Philippines and have become certified a TEFL tutor; before my gap year is over I am aiming to do some more traveling, gain more qualifications and secure an internship.

This position required me to write lesson plans weeks in advance, coordinate meetings with both parents and fellow teachers and strictly follow a curriculum which I taught to my class of 10 2-3 year olds on a daily basis. More importantly this role forced me to be compassionate and patient, it allowed my to be creative and energetic and it has shown me how to be increasingly empathetic and understanding when explaining or communicating.

From these three qualifications I have learnt essential skills, for example, orientation and navigation using both traditional ordnance survey maps (OSM) and military grade gps equipment, plotting treks and hikes that rage from 6-18km, basic bush craft and practical camping experience; as well as learning to rely on my own dependability and capabilities as a team member and leader.

Relying on the skills and experience gained from Duke of Edinburgh expeditions and Army camps and training, I was equipped with the ground knowledge required to safely begin a basic mountaineering course. However, due to extreme weather conditions and the surrounding environment licensed professionals were required to to train all participants in navigation (map and compass skills, navigating through a snow storm, rock navigation etc), basic rock climbing techniques (how to leverage your weight, use a harness, how and where to place your feet and properly climb and down climb) avalanche safety and companion rescue, packing for an expedition, Wilderness First Responder or Wilderness First Aid, the ways in which equipment like ice axes and crampons must be correctly used and snow-holing. All entirely new and daunting challenges that have taught me to carefully listen to instructions while also forcing me think on my feet and calculate a plan in unexpected situations.

The five years of acting as a cadet has been one of my most treasured experiences of high school. Weekly 3hr long sessions along side multiple expeditions/ camps per semester have equipped me for the the hard work, determination and commitment required in all walks of life. I have previous experience in tutoring people of a similiar age to me at school in order to help them achieve their desired grades. This included ages ranging from 9 (primary school) to 16 (secondary school) year olds. I assisted many students preparing for exams as well as some students just looking to widen their knowledge and improve their general ability in school. I used a nurturing and gentle approach and plan to do so going forward. I believe that this helped many people to unlock their full potential and prepare them for future exams beyond their GCSEs! Using a slow and steady approach ensures that students can easily apply their knowledge in exams, as well as just understanding the content. Specifically, during my tutor lessons students would be aided through practice papers as well as thoroughly explaining the content to ensure they are fully prepared for stressful and possibly unpredictable exams. Additionally, I have access to a wide variety of teaching and revision resources which I intend on using to aid my tutoring and can be used by students to improve their individual study sessions. My tutoring sessions would be suited for GCSE students and younger only as I will only be starting my A-Levels in September. Lengths of sessions can easily be altered, however a typical one would last between 1 and 2 hours. Again, this can easily be altered to suit a specific students needs.

I’m Shreya G., a second year medical student in the UK. I enjoy learning just as much as teaching, and its a great learning opportunity for us both. Considering my medical background, I find teaching science and maths favourable. I also have a good understanding of the recent exam patterns and curriculum, as I have recently done it too.
I have taught multiple age groups in the past, and have had positive feedback that shaped me into the tutor today.
I believe that each student needs a different style of teaching, and thus base mine accordingly.
My previous students would describe me as a fun, energetic and engaging tutor, who relies on quizzes and mock tests to keep you engaged. Expect to be on your toes the entire time, and not just sit and listen. Alongside explaining, I like to formulate my own resources- like notes, whiteboards and flashcards- with tips and tricks learned from personal experiences that you won’t find in a textbook, free of cost
Though I believe a normal lesson lasts about 1-2 hours, this is totally dependable on the student themselves.

I am currently a Medical student at Keele and a graduate from the University of Salford, achieving a 1st in my degree in Human Biology and Infectious Disease. Achieving the highest mark within my university. I was responsible for a programme known as GEMMS which is for supporting students in their medicine/dentistry applications, assisting them in interview technique and for the entrance exams.

Seeing the improvement and progress a child can make in a short amount of time is always the best feeling and I strive to help you achieve your goals and beyond. Sometimes having that 1 to 1 session can make all the difference in clearing up any worries about a topic.
I begin my classes by asking the student what they want to learn or discuss during the session. If they have a doubt in a concept, I will ask them to explain the same concept to me in their own words and correct them wherever necessary. I will provide some good methods to study or approach that topic. I will conclude the lesson by asking them if there is anything they would like to discuss in our next session so that I could prepare some questions in advance. I will also regularly be assessing your improvement through the use of practice papers to get an idea of where the student is at and how they can further improve. I strive to get the best out of my students.
