A british citizen by descent, I was raised in Swaziland (Eswatini), a small country in Southern Africa and have had the privilege of being educated in multiple countres. I am grateful for this opportunity to have experienced different cultures, share my life with many different types of people and I feel that this has given me both an appreciation and greater understanding of other people in their lives, as well as a wisdom that comes from the privilege of varied life experiences. People are important to me. I moved to the UK at the beginning of 2020 and have enjoyed it as much as I can with the current circumstances.
I am a 19 year old law and criminology student. Due to the lockdown I unfortunately lost my job as a barmaid, so I am currently a student unable to support myself. I have childcare experience and thought since I love children and have always been academically organized, I decided to put two and two together and venture into tutoring. If you are aiming to achieve a top grade in exams, want to gain a greater understanding of sentences or learn quick strategies for memorising your literature texts, then I can help.
I use lots of films clips and audio to reinforce understanding which students enjoy. I am not a Powerpoint tutor as I feel this isn't teaching but lecturing and that's not my style. I may dip into the odd Powerpoint slide but this will be to support your learning in a purposeful way but I rarely do this. Another difference is I offer weekly homework which is marked with understandable comments. Many parents choose to have this service too as their children often don't have regular or systematically marked homework so it is a way of regularly assessing so I can pick up any issues early.
I also have a TESOL qualification which means I have expert knowledge of English language so can competently teach foreign language students or I can draw on this knowledge to clarify rules of grammar etc. With respect to older students, I frequently teach Academic English ,whether it is helping with dissertations or preparing for IELTS.
My second specialism is Psychology and I teach this from GCSE through to and including Postgraduates as I have a MSc in Psychology. This also supports any other subject I teach as I have a detailed understanding of how memory and learning interact. It also informs me when building strategies for those who suffer from exam nerves, anxiety or barriers generally with their learning.
I have a gsoh and parents often comment on laughter coming from the room when I'm tutoring so very quiet or introverted students can be assured I'm very human and whilst I have the highest skills and knowledge, I struggled when at school so I'm always supportive and caring in my approach.
Finally, I teach many home-educated youngsters so know how to support the whole family in any challenges they may face.

My name is Courtney K., I’m currently studying for a Bsc in Psychology which I hope to use to become a Psychology teacher in the years to come. I have successfully completed a level 3 qualification in Supporting teaching and learning, which gave me the foundations of safeguarding children and gave me a better understanding of my role within a school. To further my knowledge of safeguarding within schools I have completed a safeguarding certificate which expanded on the foundations I gained from my level 3 course. I am currently studying for my Level 4 HLTA qualification which will allow me to take on a higher level of responsibility and build on my current teaching abilities. In addition to my Level 4, I am also enrolled into an Understanding Autism course which will give me a deeper understanding of people with Autism and will allow me to use this understanding in my work.
I have worked in a number of schools across Doncaster, typically working in 1:1 SEN support roles. This has enabled me to develop my teaching skill set and has allowed me to adapt my skills to a wide range of pupil needs. My responsibilities included liaising with class teachers to adapt lesson plans for children with additional needs, this has enabled me to develop my lesson planning abilities on a 1:1 basis. I have experience with a number of different additional needs, including ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia and challenging behaviour.
I have experience with online tutoring, I currently tutor three children on a weekly basis to help them build their skills and to catch up with their peers. During my own schooling as a young teenager I homeschooled; this enabled me to build a strong ability to plan lessons and gather resources as I had to teach myself the course content for both my GCSE's and A-levels. Homeschooling allowed me to develop a deeper understanding of the education system and I feel I have a unique outlook and teaching style because of this experience. Homeschooling also gave me a unique perspective of how it feels to be a child in mainstream education who needed extra provisions in order to flourish. I want to help provide the kind of support that I needed during my own schooling to other children in Doncaster, to help them find enjoyment from education.
I would love to help other children going through GCSE's and SAT's and to boost their confidence. I hope to make children realise that with the right mindset, one that they realise if they work hard, they can do it and achieve good results. As someone who has just finished their GCSE's, the subjects are very much fresh in my mind. I would love to use any tips and tricks in which I have been taught that may differ to any others they have been given and to help them understand more.
