I am a 65 years old tutor of predominantly History and Politics, with English and Religious Studies as my supplementary subjects.
Willing to teach on-line by Skype (preferred) or Zoom, as well as person-to-person.
As you will note from my qualifications and professional experience, I have taught all four subjects for some 35 years, at College, University, Sixth Form College and High School. While the majority of my teaching has been in the UK, mainly in Birmingham, London and Bristol, nevertheless I have also taught abroad at university in the Philippines. Additionally, I have been an A'Level Politics and History examiner for the former London and Oxford & Cambridge boards in the 1990s and early post-millennium decade. So also, have I written course brochures for the History and Politics Distance - learning programmes for the National Extension College, Cambridge. All of this has added up to my having acquired a broad professional experience, which I put to the benefit of my students.
My teaching style is very much subject and communication based, with the emphasis applying knowledge and essay skills towards achieving the best exam results. There is also a priority attached to reading and grammar skills, both of which appear to be neglected by the contemporary British educational establishment. Hopefully I can use my experience and robust teaching methods towards enabling students to gain their best performance in exams and careers. - Please also note that I am happy to tutor students on-line - ie. Skype (Preferred) or Zoom, and have a fair experience of this kind of teaching.
I have been a secondary school English teacher for seven years and have taught KS3, KS4 and A Levels, as well as IB MYP and DP.
I am currently studying psychology at University of Birmingham; I will graduate summer 2025. I also volunteer as a Peer Assisted Study Session (PASS) leader every week at university. This entails helping first year students with psychology coursework. I have enjoyed this role thoroughly as it’s rewarding to provide students with extra support and participate in teaching a subject I find interesting.
Alongside university, I work part time as a teaching assistant in an array of SEN schools in the West Midlands. I have a lot of experience with children with Autism, ADHD and ASD, as well as working with children with a range of more complex needs. As well as supporting classwork, I often resolve disputes in the classroom by listening to the students’ needs and aid in coming to a solution with them. My current teaching job made me realise I have a passion for working with students of all ages and capabilities. Therefore, I am intending to apply for a teaching degree once I have completed my Bachelor’s. Becoming a teacher is something I am passionate about as I have loved being able to help children throughout their academic journey.
I have found the best way to build an effective student-teacher relationship is by being able to create an enjoyable learning atmosphere. It is important students see their teacher as someone they can talk to as this helps build confidence in and out of the classroom. Each student has different capabilities and personalities, so I tailor my teaching style and go at a pace that suits them. I have found this very effective with many of the students I currently work with as it creates a fun and positive working environment. As I am currently a student, I am aware that learning new subjects and balancing different classes can cause stress. Therefore, I make it my mission to help my students however I can by creating fun and engaging lessons. I would love to be able to provide tuition for students of all ages and capabilities as I have personally received the benefits of having a passionate teacher.
I have a passion to teach young children and adults. I like to help others with my knowledge and skills in the above mentioned subjects. I believe that every student is different from the other and therefore I design lesson plans for students according to their needs and learning levels.

I have worked in a small SEN school for the past six years as an English lead, delivering the KS2 - KS4 curriculum to my students. Over the past year, I have progressed within my role and become the Centre Manager within the Senior Leadership Team. Whilst working at my current school, I have become a Designated Safeguarding Lead and Safer Recruitment Trained. I have experience with children and have helped them study and assisted them with their homework.
Tutoring an individual is what I am interested in and passionate about and I have the ability to teach them. I love sharing knowledge with others and helping them learn new things.
My main experience is in KS2 (Years 4, 5 and 6) but am qualified for the whole Primary age range, 5- 11 years. In my experience as a Teacher, I have taught children with Dyslexia, children with Autism, children with Aspergers, children with social and emotional needs and looked after children.
