I can offer help with KS3, GCSE, the International Baccalaureate and A Levels.
I am a qualified teacher, with over 25 years experience in both subject areas, and teach in an outstanding school locally. I am also a qualified and practising SENDCo and Exams Access Assessor. This means that I am able to complete assessments which will indicate whether your child needs extra time, a reader, a scribe or any other reasonable adjustment. My report can be taken to the school as evidence of the need from them to also assess your child for exams access arrangements.

I pride myself on my ability to identify and solve students' difficulties, helping them to 'get unstuck' and teaching them the skills they need to become independent and enthusiastic learners. No matter your starting point, I can meet you where you are at and get you where you want to be. I am used to using a variety of approaches depending on class size (individual or small group), student age, and the goals of the student. My focus is on helping my students to understand the learning process, so that they can ask the right questions and take charge of their own learning. I will provide you with resources and guidance to help you practise independently so that you can build on the progress you make in your lessons with me. I have a thorough knowledge of several exam syllabuses and can teach you the techniques you need to do well in exams, but I also want to help you set your own targets and have fun with your learning!

An English teacher of 12 years experience in the secondary setting, currently working with key stage 3 and 4 students, I have been tutoring in person and remotely for nearly 20 years. Formerly an Advanced Skills Teacher for Drama and Performing Arts, I was appointed as a Senior Lead Practitioner for Creativity in 2019. My first degree was in English Literature at Southampton. This was followed by a PGCE in Drama and English from the Institute of Education, and another PGCE in Directing Text with Young People, before moving on to my Masters in Education (Drama) working with the University of Middlesex and Trestle Theatre.
My teaching, leadership and whole school responsibilities have included: English Language and Literature; Drama and Theatre Studies; Media and Film Studies; Cross-Curricular Literacy; Raising Boys’ Achievement; Creative and Cultural entitlement. I have worked in a variety of contexts throughout London and Hertfordshire. Most recently, I led a 2-year journey of Creative Teaching and Learning across a two-site secondary school, working towards Artsmark accreditation in April 2021.
During lockdown, I embraced the challenges of remote learning and enjoyed the opportunity to experiment with different modes of delivery and interaction. I am an experienced, qualified teacher and tutor of 20+ years. I am educated to master's level and have expereince teaching and tutoring primary and preparatory school pupils (ages 6 - 13). I can provide home learning support in all primary subjects as well as specialist English tuition. I have had success preparing pupils for SATs and entrance examinations for independent schools, particularly in Cambridge, (United Kingdom), though I am also familiar with Cheltenham schools. I tailor sessions to the individual child's interests and needs, and work with pupils and parents to meet their desired goals, whether these be to build confidence, to develop creativty or to begin entrance exam preparation in earnest. I usually set a short piece of homework at the end of each session and review this with the pupil in the following session.
I am currently working only online via Skype and Zoom to deliver lessons but will also consider other mutually agreeable, secure platforms.
My basic rate is £30 per hour but this may be adjusted up to £35 or down to £25 depending upon the age and number of students, the work involved and any fees charged to me to facilitate tutoring.
Return to School or Transition Support - I can provide educational support for children returning to school in September after a significant time out of a formal educational environment. I can also support those children making important transitions between key stages or who are adjusting to the pace of work in a new school.
Manuscripts and dissertations (master's level) - I offer a proof-reading (typing, spelling and punctuation) and basic editing (grammar, consistency and clarity) service and quote for this on an individual basis.

I am passionate about teaching and education, and have recently achieved a Masters with Distinction in Teaching and Learning from University of Herts, as well as completing a Primary Education degree in 2013. I lead Primary English and am in my eighth year of teaching, currently with Year 5/6.
I have been teaching for 8 years and am currently teaching full-time in a mixed Year 5/6 class for a fourth year, I have also taught in Year 3 and 4. I have a 2:1 in Primary Education from Winchester University as well as an MA Distinction in Teaching and Learning from the University of Hertfordshire.
I have a very good knowledge of the primary curriculum and expectations for each Key Stage. Being the English lead at school means I also have a good knowledge of teaching phonics and reading/writing across the age groups, however I am also extremely confident in teaching Maths. I can be flexible in teaching either primary aged children or those in their beginning years of secondary school.
Due to my experience, I am confident in teaching and supporting children with a range of abilities and needs, as well as across a range of topics. I have been teaching in the UK for overc10 years. I have been tutoring English and Maths for GSCE for over seven years.
I currently work within a acute psychiatric school which is attached to an inpatient unit in Edgware. I travel from Bedford and so am able to travel within these locations.
I carry extensive knowledge and experience surrounding mental health challenges that young people face daily. I have received feedback from students on many occassions indicating that my style of mentoring and approach is helpful for them. I am extremely passionate about helping young people specifically that face struggles in their day to day lives and act as a mentor/coach to assist them whenever they are in need or crisis.

About the Lesson
I offer one, one and a half, and two-hour lessons, using questioning techniques to encourage deeper thinking and help students achieve top grades in English. My experience includes teaching a wide range of texts such as Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Much Ado About Nothing, The Sign of the Four, A Christmas Carol, An Inspector Calls, and poetry from the Power and Conflict and Love and Relationships anthologies. I have also served as an examiner, marking AQA English Literature Paper 2, and will be marking Language Paper 1 this year.
