I am a dedicated teacher who has grown in all aspects of teaching since embarking on my career. I have risen to the challenges of teaching and believe that all children can reach their learning potential.
As a tutor, I believe in working on a personalised course of study working through use of past exam papers and interview questions, teaching students to answer the questions well and grow in confidence.
I have successfully coached children through 7+ 11+ and 13+ exams including exams to scholarship level. I have been a private tutor for nearly six years for multiple companies - both in person and online. I have hosted exchange programmes to help students with English as a foreign language. I have helped to run summer schools. I have been educated at two Russell Group universities: my undergraduate degree in English Literature and History was acquired from the University of Exeter, while my postgraduate degree in English PGCE with QTS was acquired from the University of Oxford. I have been teaching English in a state comprehensive school for nearly four years, in which I have taught/still am teaching KS3 English, GCSE English (both Language and Literature), and A Level English Language and Literature (all with AQA). I specialise in teaching English to any secondary aged students; however, I have experience in teaching the eleven plus and am also able to help KS2 students with preparation for English at secondary school. About Me: Experience & Interests
Having qualified as a teacher in 2004, I have been teaching at Secondary level (including A Level) for 16 years. My first two years in the profession were spent teaching in Bassaleg School in Newport before moving to Oxfordshire 14 years ago, to teach in a comprehensive school in Abingdon. In 2008, I became Head of English, a role I held for 6 years prior to having children. I have been tutoring privately for the past 6 years, with tutees ranging from Year 5 to Year 11. My area of interest and expertise for tutoring has mainly focused on KS4, but I also have experience in tutoring younger students for their Year 6 SATS Exam and for the 13+ Grammar School examination. In my role as Head of English, I oversaw Literacy across the Curriculum Interventions and Developments as well as mentoring trainee interns and delivering professional development sessions to newly qualified teachers. As a mentor for the PGCE teacher-training course at The University of Oxford, I have also regularly assisted the university in interviewing applicants for their course. As an examiner for AQA Literature, I have had training in understanding the requirements of the new 2015 specification, as well as three years’ experience of grading exam scripts. I am also an assessor for the National Foundation for Educational Research, an independent provider of research in education. I have experience in teaching various exam boards including AQA, WJEC, Edexcel and IGCSE. In my spare time, I enjoy playing the violin and piano, going to the gym, swimming and skiing.

Approaches to Tutoring
Different students require different approaches to learning and so I work hard to tailor my sessions according to the needs of the student. In addition to one-to-one online tutoring, I also offer paired tuition (with someone of a similar age and ability) and small group tuition (Maximum of 6 per class).
