Science Clinic Private Tutors was founded in 2010. Our vision was to help struggling children understand the concepts of the major subjects which are sought after by many colleges & universities. Our tutoring was mainly in the main subjects (Maths, all 3 Sciences & English Language) to exam students only. Because of the huge demand of tutoring in all year groups, we now teach students across the board from Primary (KS1 & KS2) through to GCSE, A-level and University. We were luck to have had colleagues we share the same vision with join us. Now we can teach all subjects from Primary through to GCSE, College /A-levels and Science & Maths at University level. All our teachers / tutors are graduates and qualified teachers with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) who understand the National Curriculum. Some of them are examiners at GCSE and A-level, which means they know the exam techniques students need to answer the exam questions properly and get better grades. Within the team, we have professionals with very high qualifications ie Masters Degrees (MSc / MA) and PhDs in various subjects. We can, therefore, be confident to say we are professionals who are dedicated to what we do with proven records in the UK’s most entrance and national exams. We are a tutoring organisation that is defined by its professionalism. Our aim is to provide a personal service. This makes us very different from most tutoring companies that just offer a platform for tutors and students to meet. We speak to clients so that we can match them with the most appropriate tutor for their needs. When this happens, the results can be remarkable & confidence grows. We personally know all our tutors and all have had DBS checks and their qualifications checked before we take them on. We are also a member of The Tutors’ Association (TTA) which was formed in 2013 to provide standards to the tutoring industry.
I am a first year student studying BSc Psychology at Durham University. At A-levels, I studied English Literature (A*), Psychology (A) and Biology (A) and completed an EPQ (A*); and at GCSEs I achieved 11 grades 7-9, including: 9s in English Literature and Latin, 8s in Maths, English Language, French, Biology, Physics, Geography and Ancient Greek, and 7s in Music and Chemistry. I have experience being as a GCSE English Literature and Language tutor and a revision mentor, as well as being a volunteer primary school classroom assistant for a year. Additionally, I hold a TEFL level 2 qualification, a Coaching and Mentoring [CPD certified] qualification and a Child Protection for Tutors certificate [CPD certified].

I am a gap year student with a strong passion for English, having achieved an A at A-level. My love for literature and language extends beyond my own studies, as I have actively sought opportunities to help others succeed in English. I volunteered to support younger pupils with reading, helping them to improve their skills, build confidence, and develop a genuine enjoyment for books. I also founded a creative writing club for GCSE students, where I designed engaging sessions to enhance their writing skills and boost their English Language grades. These experiences have given me valuable insight into tailoring support to different needs and fostering a positive learning environment. Having taught in all year groups at Primary level and across a range of schools, I am very well placed to know how the curriculum develops through each year and how to guide children to make progress accordingly. Following completion of A-Levels in History, English Literature and Health and Social Care, I began my career in education through obtaining a degree in primary education, specialising in the arts and humanities. I have taught children ranging from 4-11 in addition to gaining experience in EAL, SEN and training in BR@P and Prevent. I have further experience as a nursery nurse and a childminders assistant focusing on preparing early years children for school. I have a meticulous knowledge of the primary curriculum, having taught for extended periods of my career in Year 6 as well as in lower KS2 and KS1. I believe that there is no one set approach to improving academic standards and that instead this should be tailored towards the needs of the pupil on an individual basis. For example, this could involve providing challenging and thought-provoking material or rebuilding a pupil's understanding and confidence from the ground up. My name is Justin W., and I provide tuition for GCSE English language and literature, Key Stage 2 SATs preparation, the eleven plus entrance examinations and English as a foreign language (EFL).
I’m a teacher of English at a large – successful - secondary school in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, so I am in-tune with up-to-date curriculum practices, resources and reforms. Importantly, due to my school commitments, my private tuition takes place between the hours of 4 and 9pm, Monday to Friday; weekend and holiday tuition is also available.
I am fortunate to have worked across the spectrum of ages and abilities in education. I have taught through key stages 2, 3 and 4 in local state – and independent – primary, SEN and secondary schools. I also teach many 18+ students to prepare for college, university and business.
Prior to teaching, yet inextricably linked, I was an entertainer for over ten years, and this experience set the foundations for making my lessons relaxed, calm and, importantly, an enjoyable experience.
And why must students ‘enjoy’ the process?
Well, thinking back to my childhood, to this day I still remember all the fun and engaging lessons, yet I’ve cast aside the banal, drab and boring ones. Thus, my approach follows a very simple ethos: fun and engaging lessons rooted in a thorough, interweaved analysis of the curriculum.
My style of teaching is far removed from the ‘traditional’, didactic and teacher-led approach. ‘Barking’ at students and simply giving them the answer is counterproductive, and counterintuitive. I encourage my students to use the structure(s) and hypotheses afforded to them to ‘discover’ the response – and subsequently express that response in an assured, confident and competent way, whether that be vocally or through writing.
And, guided by foresight, that is my aim. I seek to arm each student with the skills, theory and structure prerequisite for the many circumstances of ‘English’: whether that be SPaG for navigating the Year 6 SATs; whether that be critical thinking, essay technique and alternative interpretations expected at GCSE level; or whether that be proof-reading, drafting and editing content for a CV or job application.
The study of English is by no means finite. It’s a continuum. And, with such a difficult and contradictory language such as English, a competent grasp of its working structure is essential for success in formative and summative assessments – and life.

As a teaching assistant I have worked with children across all primary key stages. As an early year’s nursery nurse, I developed an invaluable understanding of the initial stages of development upon which a child’s abilities are developed; whilst as a teaching assistant I gained a solid understanding of the demands of the National Curriculum and different strategies used in the classroom environment. The impact of my previous and current roles is that I have first-hand experience of the learning and development continuum that each child goes through, from birth through to leaving primary school at year 6.
As a teaching assistant I have worked across all key stages delivering interventions to pupils with SEN/EAL or those who required additional support on either a one to one or group basis. The impact of the interventions I delivered was that all pupils reached their early learning goals or targets. As part of my role I covered lessons and delivered full class teaching, enabling the class teacher to work with target groups. As a result of this, I worked closely with the class teacher to observe progress, deliver joint strategies and plan next steps for students. I worked collaboratively with the teacher to plan and assess stages of learning, as well as continually striving to create a learning environment which is stimulating. I recognise that a stimulating learning environment provides support mechanisms for the children to develop independence in their learning, resulting in students developing themselves further in their learning by feeling safe and valued. A main focus within my role had been planning and teaching with a lower ability SEN group. Due to the diverse needs of the group, I effectively differentiated tasks in order to deliver lessons at each child’s own level, pace and ability to ensure progression was made. My excellent creativity had been acknowledged by senior management and I have utilised this throughout the school maintaining teaching and learning environments around the school to an exceptional standard.
From beginning my teacher training course in September, I believe that behaviour management is an important factor within the classroom. Throughout my experience I consider praise and reward systems to be very effective. By emphasising good behaviour rather than negative behaviour I create a more positive and relaxed atmosphere for learning, as well as strengthening the pupil-teacher relationship and respect required in the classroom. I have demonstrated this by adapting the new behaviour system the school has adopted to match a theme which best suits the needs and interests of the children within my class resulting in a significant improvement being achieved. Furthermore, I have demonstrated my ability to reach children with additional emotional needs when a new pupil joined the class; I identified his social and emotional needs quickly and efficiently before putting effective support in place for the child using the skills I had developed following learning mentor training. The benefit of the support I provided has helped the child to settle into their new surroundings with greater ease and understand that support is there when needed.
