About our owner and founder
I am a committed, enthusiastic and friendly tutor/mentor with 30 years of teaching experience and up to date knowledge of teaching methods. Since graduating from the University or Reading in 1992, I have taught in a variety of Norfolk schools - both primary and secondary (including an American school here in the U. K.). I have a proven track record of improving pupil achievement in maths and am able to offer tailor-made tuition to meet individual pupil needs - whether the student is struggling to keep up at school, developing confidence or preparing for exams.
Home Educated children I am happy to work with home educators and their children. As home educating families often have very individual requirements, please get in contact if you would like to discuss options for daytime sessions. I also offer discounts for home educated students taking lessons during school hours (9am-3pm) on weekdays in term-time. Please contact me for details.

Hello! My name is Tamara and I am a primary teacher from Toronto, Canada. I have been living and teaching in the UK since 2015. I have taught Foundation Stage, Year 1, Year 2, Year 4/5 as well as covered across all other year groups in KS2. I also have experience teaching Functional Skills Maths to adults 16-21. Alongside teaching, I have been tutoring for the past 8 years across all primary year groups as well as secondary year groups. I absolutely love teaching and believe that children learn best when their interests are considered. I tailor my tuition to each child, using their interests and their academic and emotional needs to plan a program that works for them. I have worked with children with special educational needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder and Dyslexia.

I have considerable experience teaching in the UK and in various other countries around the world within Africa, Asia and the Caribbean in a variety of subjects from A Level to Key Stage 1. Most of my teaching has been at Key Stages 4 and 5 in Secondary Schools in the UK but I have also taught Primary children in preparation for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 SATs. I am a very passionate educator and believe in the importance of inspiring young people to develop a love of learning. It is so important to use any prior knowledge or experience to help students, whatever age, to understand, question and think about the facts, not just to learn them. I have an excellent track record when it comes to preparing students for exams - whether these be A Level or GCSE exams or Key Stage tests, and although my teaching goes far beyond 'teaching to the test' I do recognise the importance, particularly in a tutoring situation, of doing whatever I can to help young people to reach their full potential and achieve the best grades possible. I started my career teaching children with special needs and specialised in those with emotional, social and behavioural difficulties. This was my specialsilst graduate study subject and led to my first management and leadership responsibilities.
My first job was teaching a class of 11-12 year olds who had not managed to achieve a national curriculum level in English and maths in year 6. By the end of year 7, they all achieved at least a level 3, with most acheiving a level 4 or 5. My value added was the highest in the school.
I learned through experience the power of small group work rather than simply 1-1, but led by inspirational leadership: builidng trust, self-confidence and the layering of skills to support their individual learning which is why I encourage group tutoring as the most powerful way to learn outside of regular class learning.

I have great experience teaching within the class setting and tutoring, both online and face to face, teaching a whole class, small groups and 1:1. I started my teaching career working as a reception class teacher, teaching 4 year olds, a role with a huge amount of responsibility, providing a nurturing, caring environment whilst also providing a love of learning. Since then I have taught in years 1 to 4, teaching maths, English, science, history, geography, art and personal, social and health care. Due to the covid pandemic and school closures I taught for several months online, teaching the class as a whole, in small groups and some one to one sessions also. Following on from successful tutoring of one family they offered me the position of nanny/tutor and for the past 2 years I have been a nanny for a family of 5 children, teaching the eldest 4 on a daily basis. Due to a chenge in my own family circumstances I am no longer able to offer the overnight and weekend hours that they desire so am seeking a new challenge of online tutoring. I am professional, reliable and passionate about teaching. Tutoring enables lessons to be not only specific to an individual child's needs but also specific to their interests, making learning more interesting and creating an enthusiasm and pride for the child, taking ownership of their achievements.
