Elementary Maths Tutor, Teacher
Hello! I'm Louisa, and I have had the privilege of being a dedicated primary teacher for over a decade, with a strong emphasis on Early Years and Key Stage 1 (KS1) education. My journey in education has been marked by my passion for nurturing young minds and helping them build a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
Educational Background and Experience:
I hold a PGCE in Education, which has equipped me with the knowledge and pedagogical skills required for effective teaching in primary education. My extensive teaching experience spans over 10 years, during which I have honed my expertise in early childhood and KS1 education. I have had the opportunity to teach in two outstanding primary schools, where I consistently maintained high standards of education and created a positive learning environment.
Areas of Expertise: I offer specialized tutoring sessions in the following key areas:
Handwriting Improvement: As a primary teacher, I understand the importance of legible and fluent handwriting. I provide comprehensive handwriting sessions to help students develop fine motor skills and improve their penmanship.
Phonics Mastery: Phonics is a crucial skill for early readers. I employ effective phonics techniques to help young learners build strong reading and pronunciation skills, setting them on the path to becoming confident readers.
Reading Enrichment: Reading is the gateway to knowledge and imagination. I tailor reading sessions to meet each student's unique needs, fostering a love for reading and comprehension.
Mathematics Enhancement: Mathematics is a fundamental subject, and I make it engaging and accessible to young learners. I provide personalized math sessions to strengthen foundational math skills and promote mathematical confidence.
My Teaching Approach:
I believe in creating a supportive and nurturing learning environment where each student feels valued and encouraged to reach their full potential. My teaching style is interactive, engaging, and adapted to the individual learning styles of my students. I prioritize building strong communication with both students and parents to ensure progress is monitored and goals are achieved.
Why Choose Me as Your Tutor:
My extensive experience in primary education, especially in Early Years and KS1, gives me a deep understanding of the developmental needs of young learners. I am committed to helping students not only succeed academically but also grow as confident, independent, and motivated learners. My track record of teaching in outstanding primary schools demonstrates my commitment to excellence in education.
If you're looking for a dedicated and experienced tutor to support your child's educational journey in handwriting, phonics, reading, or math, I would be honored to work with you. Together, we can help your child thrive academically and build a strong foundation for future success. Since my both of my daughters were diagnosed with dyslexia, I became aware of the challenges they faced every day in the classroom. This in its self spurred me on to become the year 6 teacher I am today. One who will never give up trying to find new and exciting ways to help children learn. Mainly, my forte it's SATs prep, which I've been doing for 7 years helping children not only pass their exams, but instilling confidence within to flourish for the rest of their educational careers. I also have a specialism in supporting the progress of children who have particular needs. Such experience I feel enables me to teach in a very diverse way, resulting in a bespoke tutoring approach that will inevitably enrich your child's educational career.

I am a fully qualified teacher and I previously taught in secondary schools in Brighton. For the last ten years I've worked solely as a full time tutor. I do tuition in schools, for local authority agencies and I also do private tuition. As I work solely as a maths tutor I have refined my teaching style, resources and approach over the years to provide a service that always gets positive feedback.
My aim as a tutor is firstly to re-engage my tutees so they gain confidence and a level of understanding that will help them to succeed in class at school. I feel that is important as they will see their class teacher a lot more than they will me.
On my first lesson I always give each student a folder filled with printed resources and an exercise book for us to work in. I also recommend the best websites and apps for them to use (there are so many it is hard to know which are any good). I can also share resources and exam papers electronically with my students and parents.

I am a sympathetic, fun, understanding individual with a vast amount of experience working with children of all primary ages from Reception to year 6 of all abilities.
I believe making learning fun is the key, whilst chunking it into small pieces to make it less overwhelming giving a child the confidence they need to believe in themselves and their abilities. I teach daily Read Write Inc phonics lessons and regular maths lessons.
I have worked as a TA and HLTA for the past 3 years and as of September will be completing my teaching qualification. I am fully Enhanced DBS checked.
