My name is José María de Lucas Sacristán, though most know me as Chema Sacristán. I've been a professional drummer since 2004. I'd like to share a brief biography of my career in the U.K. In 2002, at 19, I realized my love for music and moved to Bristol, U.K., where I lived for four years. Bristol exposed me to all sorts of music, including rock, jazz, world music, and more. I played my first shows and worked with over five different local bands, gaining valuable experience. In 2006, I moved to London to study at Tech Music Schools, known as "Drum Tech," where I completed my higher education and earned a BMUS in Popular Music Performance (Hons), licensed by West London University. After completing my degree in 2011, I worked exclusively as a performing drummer and drum teacher, giving private lessons in my own studio, Oktopus Music Services, in North West London. In the past nine years, I've had the privilege of performing, recording, and writing with some of the best musicians in the London and U.K. scene, such as Kevin Glasgow (one of Europe's best bassists), Robin Banerjee (Amy Winehouse's guitarist), Roberto Manzin (Zucchero), Felipe Martíns (Emeterians), Juan Whist (The Voice National Spanish TV), and many others. I've showcased in most of London's live music venues and with the best U.K. and European entertainment agencies, such as Scarlett Entertainment, Full Stop Entertainment, and more. After 20 years of professional experience, I've decided to focus fully on teaching drums and performing. My studies and extensive career reflect my devotion to music, and I've mastered many techniques, including improvising, independence, coordination, and vocabulary in most music styles of modern popular music and some world music genres. My target is to share my passion for music, drums, and percussion on stage and during private lessons. About the Lesson
- I provide one-to-one in-studio & online drum tuition offering guidance to students in groove, technique, rhythm and time keeping as well as boosting performance confidence.
- I endeavour to keep my approach interesting, fun and educational to develop students' drumming and musicianship to a higher level whether you're a beginner, intermediate or advanced player.
- Lessons are tailored to suit the individual needs and goals of the student and are aimed to teach at a pace that works for their particular skill level to ensure the most effective results.
- Concepts covered include (but not limited to): foundational techniques, rudimental studies (and how to apply rudiments in unique and interesting ways to the drum set), co-ordination studies, technique, linear phrasing, improvisation, timekeeping patterns, soloing ideas, dynamic control, four-way co-ordination and sight-reading.

For ten years I've been playing professionally in various contexts: Tiger Lillies, Michael Rosen, Hot Swing Boheme, Jowe Head, Psychoyogi and many more in the jazz, pop, punk, rock, progressive rock, funk and cabaret genres. I love how diverse cultures, mediums, ideas and experiences are linked by music, which has given me a more enriched life.
Before achieving my 2:1 Bachelor's Honours degree at DrumTech/London College of Music, I was an actor and self-taught drummer. But I've also worked as a singer and done sessions as a guitarist, keyboardist and bassist in some contexts, and the connection between drumming and these areas is huge. I learned my musical voice from experimentation, composition and perspiration. Dancing has helped me discover it too.
My latest DBS equivalent is the ACRO international criminal record check in 2019.
These days I'm usually teaching in person at Hicaz Studio in Stoke Newington, east London, which is available. But in my home in north London we can have lessons on video with a little more time flexibility in my dedicated music studio.
Playing well and teaching are two different things. I love to study and learn from what challenges each student brings to the session. We each have a unique musical voice, and that is the reason we learn all these technical skills, rather than conforming to a type.
I want you to be motivated to teach yourself as I did. I have trained students who went on to complete grades and do professional work. In my 10 years of teaching experience, I've also experience with learning difficulties as an amanuensis in universities across London, tutoring excluded students in north London, and working in formal classroom settings as a teaching assistant. Currently I'm training in supporting students with dyslexia and related difficulties.
The most well-being I get from music is singing, which I have done since I was young, and since then have also sang lead vocals and backing vocals professionally with Tiger Lillies and Nathan Futo, Burford Society and in my own songs. But this also informs all the music work I do.

Your Achievements
For graded studies, Trinity Guildhall exams are recommended, but there are alternatives.
Aural (listening) based learning is offered with an emphasis on expanded music listening. Playing by ear, call and response, improvisation, or other listening based approaches are often underestimated. Playing depends on our improved listening, at every point. Music in a sense is the teaching of listening.

Hi, my name's Serban. I'm a professional drummer/percussionist with 22 years experience performing live in rock and symphonic orchestras across Europe. My qualifications, teaching experience, passion and long standing dedication to drumming, started at 12 years of age, and I started my musicianship at 6, learning the piano. I am a friendly and professional music teacher who loves helping my students experience the joy of music. Whether you're already a competent player or an absolute beginner, technique and musicianship will be at the forefront of your lessons with me. My aim is to transmit my passion and love for music to you, and help you develop, and have a great time doing so. My teaching is based on playing to actual music, not boring, repetitive exercises. We might work on Trinity Rock and Pop graded tunes and learning those charts, or your own favourite music that you've always wanted to learn and jam to.
Obviously specific drum and snare related exercises have their uses, but only to get you playing what you want to play.
Whatever your style, I get you results.

I teach at my studio (online and in-person) and peripatetically in schools and colleges. I am the Lead Music Mentor for Essex Music Service (EMS), running and facilitating projects for children with learning disabilities. I spent some time at Barnet and Southgate College as their Music Lecturer specialising in teaching their SEN and those with Autism, PMLD and LD. I'm also the Musical Inclusion Specialist for MusicNet East.

A professional drummer/percussionist/music teacher and first class degree music graduate offers professional drum tuition to any level students.
I've been playing the drums more than a decade now and I have experience with bands which play original music, function bands, tribute bands, big bands, orchestras and small jazz ensembles.
I was in the cruise ship industry for about 7 years and built up a repertoire of over 450 tunes.
I'm also a full time teacher of all the drum kit grades of Trinity and RockSchool's books, so after completing a grade (learning three songs from a relevant grade book) pupils can go to an exam and get a certificate.
My dissertation in university was on most efficient ways of teaching music (Dalcroze, Kodaly, Suzuki methods). I did an extensive research, experienced some of the methods first hand and I’m pretty confident the performance I’m offering as a teacher would lead to results.
I also play the bass and the piano and believe that any sort of a melodic instrument can be really helpful for drummers to create better approach towards music.
I'm based in Harborne, Birmingham and I think it would be best to teach at pupil's home, as I don't have big enough space at home.
Fee is £30 per hour.
